MOBILE APPS FOR SMART CITIES

Increasingly these days, there is a need, which is almost a requirement, for citizens to communicate and interact in a fast, effective, productive and satisfying way with their representatives and municipal services. Savvy travelers are becoming more and more dependent on their smartphones and mobile devices while traveling. It is estimated that 85% of leisure travelers make use of their smartphone while travelling abroad. Western Europe is the region with the second-largest number of smartphone users, with 196.6 million in 2014. Three Nordic countries reached 50% penetration last year, and were joined by the Netherlands and UK. In 2015, a raft of other countries, including the rest of the EU-5, will make the majority smartphone jump. Like the UK, the US will also reach majority-smartphone penetration among its population this year, a major milestone for two of the most advanced internet markets in the world. The US remains the second-largest smartphone market worldwide, behind China, totaling 163.9 million users in 2014.

REPORT

Mobiversal and The City of Oradea worked together to bring to life an app that would improve the relationship with local citizens and reduce bureaucracy. The result is a simple and intuitive app that allows responsible citizens to report issues such as potholes, stray dogs, streetlight malfunctions, abandoned vehicles, leaky pipes, bad parking, and many more. Petitions have a description, photo, GPS location, and are automatically fed into the City’s work order system so that they can be tracked and assigned to service teams. Users can follow the status of their request and receive the solution right in the app. In under 3 months since launch, the app has been installed by nearly 3000 citizens who sent over 1600 petitions related to various categories.
