the year in review

As the year is winding down, we want to reflect on the Minnesota Metropolitan Contractors Association's "wins" and "lessons learned".

In national news, the NAHB team lobbied endlessly for the benefit of our suppliers and vendors, builders and ultimately our consumers.

They focused on maintaining the ability for the trades to continue working through the pandemic, fought the materials cost increases focused on the lumber issues, and monitored labor, taxes, code changes and so much more. Meanwhile, our state team worked hard to assure similar efforts were brought to the forefront and addressed.

Within your local, we continued efforts to grow (adding 59 new members in 2021!), identified the needs and wants in order to create programs and services for you. We added a third rebate program for members to continue the savings (last quarter our members saved over $11,500!) We held many in-person gatherings and began planning the 2022 Built to a Tee Golf Outing.

Chelle is continuing her work with us - to keep the operations managed and build the association. We have new teams Government Relations, Ambassadors, Membership and Events. One new board members stepped in before the end of the year to support the MMCA: Josh Dalki of Corporate Four

Finally, we introduced our first fundraising campaign, Giving. Thanks!

The proceeds we raise will directly benefit the programs and services we are offering. We are not asking for you to take time away from work or after hours; no new outfits or babysitters; no sponsorships or fluff. All we are doing is asking you to Give. In return, we will highlight each contributing member and three lucky winners will have the opportunity to showcase their business through marketing and media campaigns in 2022. Won't you consider the benefits of what we do and contribute to this great organization?

CHAMPIONS Josh Dalki My name is Josh Dalki and I’m a local independent insurance agent with Corporate Four Insurance Agency here in Edina.

The majority of my work is in the construction industry where I work with a large number of contractors from commercial, to residential, & artesian. I especially love being able to service home & custom home builders since we have access to & know the top insurance markets for that niche as well as anyone in the industry. In our agency we also handle benefits, life, accident, health, and personal insurance & pride ourselves in being a “one-stop-shop”.

When I’m not working, I enjoy being outside and traveling with my wife, Tina. I get a lot of joy from fishing up in the boundary waters, hiking in the mountains, or simply going for walks around the beautiful lakes & parks of Minneapolis. I’m a graduate of Bethel University here in the Twin Cities where I played football and completed my bachelor’s degree (go Royals!) and I love being able to partner with local business in the metro. I look forward to getting to know you all as I become more involved with the MMCA team & am excited to meet in person. From the Headlines: Statement from NAHB Chairman Chuck Fowke on Sen. Capito’s Clean Water Act Legislation Chuck Fowke, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and a custom home builder from Tampa, Fla., today issued the following statement on Sen. Shelley Moore Capito’s (R-W.Va.) legislation to codify the 2020 Clean Water Act Section 401 certification rule:

“We commend Sen. Capito for introducing legislation to codify the 2020 Clean Water Act (CWA) Section 401 certification rule. This bill will help protect our nation’s waterways and promote housing affordability by allowing builders and developers to continue to access the vitally important CWA Section 404 nationwide wetlands permitting program that enables badly needed land development and housing construction to move forward. The legislation focuses state permitting reviews on issues regarding water quality standards and emphasizes the need for prompt approval of permitting decisions to move forward where applicable.

“A hastily issued court decision of the current CWA Section 401 certification rule last October has left developers, builders and other key sectors of the U.S. economy unable to obtain required federal wetlands permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps). Clarifying and expediting the Section 401 certification process between state agencies, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Corps will ensure federal CWA permitting programs like the Section 404 nationwide permit program that are vital to the nation’s housing, infrastructure and manufacturing sectors can run effectively. Sen. Capito’s thoughtful legislation will promote housing and economic development while protecting our nation’s waterways.”

NAHB strongly opposes the move by the Commerce Department to double tariffs on Canadian lumber shipments to 18%. And we need your help to get Congress involved.
