




On behalf of the students and staff here at Millard North High School, we would like to welcome you to the 2022 Galaxy Of The Stars Show Choir Competition. We are excited to share this very special event with you! We are lucky to have the best students and parents who have worked tirelessly to make this day a smooth and enjoyable one. We would especially like to thank Helen Krichau, Stephanie Herr and Kendra McIvor for chairing the event, all our committee heads for organizing over the last eight months, our sponsors in the great city of Omaha, and the teachers for allowing us to utilize their classroom space. We would also like to thank the MNHS administration for providing us the leadership and resources to put on this great event.
It is the mission of Millard North Show Choirs and Galaxy Of The Stars that each competitor, director and school be afforded the opportunity to display their collective talents, seek guidance from industry leaders, and entertain the community of Omaha, Nebraska. We are excited to provide each of you a fun-filled day as most of the students finish out their show choir season. Please cheer loudly and wish any performer good luck today! Megan Swain boasts a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education with an emphasis in voice from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, as well as a Master’s of Arts Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix. Megan currently serves as the Director of Choral Activities at Millard North High School in Omaha, Nebraska. Her responsibilities include conducting 4 curricular choirs, teaching the International Baccalaureate Music course, and serving as the head director of the Millard North Show Choirs. Under Megan’s direction, Millard North’s Varsity Show Choir “Infinity” received numerous awards including Grand Championships, Best vocals, Best choreography, Best band, and more. Megan is in her 7th year of teaching at Millard North, and 8th year teaching overall. In her spare time, Megan enjoys spending time with her husband and son.
Elizabeth Fritton graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor of Music Education Degree in 2013. She is a Kodaly Certified Educator and earned her Master of Arts in Teaching degree through Morningside University. She is the K-6 music teacher at Springfield Elementary in Springfield, Nebraska where she also directs the Springfield Platteview Community Choir. Along with directing Illumination, she also is the music director and choreographer for the musical at Millard North High School.
Allie Hoffmann received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education as well as her Master’s of Science Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Northwest Missouri State University. She teaches 6-8 Vocal Music at Andersen Middle School, and is the director of Intensity at Millard North. When she’s not at Millard North, Allie enjoys spending time with her family.
Paige Nola is thrilled to be the new director of MNSC’s show band, Insanity! She is a professional actor, bassist, and fiber artist. A UNO grad, she plays for many theaters in Omaha. She performs with her jazz group The Benson House Trio as well as Esencia Latina, a 14-piece salsa band. On stage, Nola most recently portrayed a Holocaust survivor in When We Go Away at the JCC. She is also a company actor in the ongoing international show, The Dinner Detective, and with the education theater company, RESPECT, where she has also lent her skills in sound design and music. Nola studied at the New York Conservatory of Dramatic Arts and fell in love with film acting. She is very active in the local film scene and can be seen in A Day with Lily (2021), Bricking and Entering (2022), and Inner Worlds (web series - 2022). Nola loves crafting, all things chocolate, a good pen, training her dogs, dinosaurs, and laughing with her love.

Illumination’s show, Kissin’ Kate, tells the story of Katherine Barlow; a school teacher from Green Lake, Texas. When the townspeople tear her apart from her one true love, she vows revenge on those who hurt her and her beloved, Sam.

About:
Millard North is proud to present their mixed prep show choir ensemble: Intensity. Intensity is comprised of 38 singers and dancers, 20 crew members and backed by the 18 piece combo, Insanity. All students are highly involved in activities such as marching band, orchestra, forensics, one-act, basketball, tennis, cheerleading and the International Baccalaureate program. Intensity is directed by Allie Hoffmann, the show was arranged by Andrew Firkins, and choreographed by Nick Quamme, Lexi Robson, Katelyn Hinderer, Nathan Wallace and Shane Coe. Intensity is proud to present their 21/22 show: Galaxies.
is a vocal music teacher at Linn-Mar High School in Marion, IA, where he has spent the last six years. In addition to directing the advanced treble chorus, Bella Voce, since the fall of 2016, Trent also conducts Linn-Mar’s bass chorus, Fortis, and one of the school’s mixed choruses, Concert Chorale. Outside of curricular choir, Trent is the director of Linn-Mar’s extracurricular varsity show choir, Tenth Street Edition. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2014 and now lives in Cedar Rapids with his brilliant, kind, and creative fiancée, Lexi Robson, who he is endlessly thankful for. Trent avidly enjoys watching the Yankees play baseball, struggles to play golf, and loves his students and colleagues at Linn-Mar High School.
NOLAN HENKLE is an Ankeny graduate who feels great to be back home as a part of the Jaguar family. He is the Director of Choral Activities in charge of directing Centennial Singers Silver, Concert Choir, and Spectrum. He loves his job and is proud to say that his students far surpass his expectations every day. Nolan started his college journey at Duke University but graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. In college, he performed in musical theatre productions, operas, a cappella groups, and multiple choral ensembles. His goal, now, is to make sure that he offers these same life-changing experiences to the students of Ankeny Centennial. In his free time, Nolan loves to aggressively cheer for his Atlanta Braves, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and Duke Blue Devils. He also loves to play with his two best friends—his kitties named Sasha and Malia. Ankeny Centennial is a wonderful place to learn and grow, and he couldn’t be more proud to be a part of it all. From his wonderful colleagues down the hall to the brilliant administrative team...Nolan knows that ACHS is the place to be. Go Jags!
DR. ANDREW LAST serves as the Director of Choral Activities at Luther College in Decorah, IA where he conducts the Nordic Choir, teaches conducting, and serves as the Artistic Director for the nationally broadcast Christmas at Luther. Last is part of an exciting choral program at Luther College that includes three choral faculty, nearly 500 singers, five choral ensembles, numerous regional and national ACDA convention performances, and regularly presents choral/orchestra works. Additionally, he serves as the Camp Director for the Dorian Summer Music Camp that annually welcomes over 700 campers to Luther College each summer. Prior to his appointment, Last served on the voice faculty of Concordia University (NE). Last holds a DMA in choral conducting from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he was named a Hixson-Lied Fellow. He received his Master of Music from Northern Arizona University and his Bachelor of Arts in music education and voice from Luther College. Ensembles under Last’s direction have been featured at both the 2016 regional ACDA convention in Sioux Falls, SD and the 2017 national ACDA convention in Minneapolis. Last made his Carnegie Hall conducting debut in 2019. A frequent clinician and guest conductor around the United States and abroad, Last has conducted All-State ensembles in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Missouri, Texas, and South Dakota.
MARK QUAMME is in his eleventh year of freelance choreographing show choir, currently working with groups across the beautiful state of Wisconsin! Mark got his start in show choir in Holmen High School’s “Midwest Express” and continued performing and began choreographing as a student at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Mark has continued to perform in various ensembles, currently singing in the Fargo Moorhead Choral Artists in North Dakota. Mark is a Senior Project Manager at Tellwell Story Co. and resides in Fargo, North Dakota with his fiance, Nick, and 5 year old German Shepard, Nora. Best of luck to all groups this year- enjoy the ride!
JEN RANDALL is in her 19th year as a choral music educator. Randall is a graduate of the University of Nebraska where she was a founding member of Big Red Singers show choir, SAI Kappa Chapter President, and a member of University Singers. From 2005 to 2016, Jen was a 6A choral director in Texas where she started four show choirs; including Central High School’s “Voices of Central.” Summer 2016, she relocated to South Dakota to take over “Friend de Coup” show choir and vocal music duties in Mitchell. 2019 saw a move back to Texas to be near family and to create Show Collective. With her company, she tours the country doing clinic/consulting work for show choirs and provides professional development for show choir professionals. Randall’s book, The Art of Competitive Show Choir was published by GIA Publications in June of 2020. She and her husband Tim have two sons: Ben and Owen, and the four enjoy having family adventures in the Lone Star State and beyond.
LEXI
is originally from Ankeny, Iowa. She began dancing at the age of 3 and has lived and performed in Oklahoma City, Dallas, Chicago, and New York City, but currently resides in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Lexi attended Oklahoma City University on scholarship where she graduated with a Bachelor of Performing Arts in Dance Performance.
Since graduation, Lexi has completed two contracts with the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line dancing through the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and the Bahamas on the Navigator of the Seas and as the Dance Captain on the Enchantment of the Seas.
Lexi is a full-time freelance choreographer, clinician, and adjudicator working with over 30 high school and college show choirs across the country and teaching at many performing arts camps. Her groups consistently achieve high placements and have won numerous awards for best choreography, design, and visual effect.
After growing up intensely training and studying the art of dance, Lexi is thrilled to share her passion and knowledge with equally passionate kids and directors all over the country.
HEATH WEBER is the Dean of the School of Visual and Performing Arts at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. Prior to his appointment at Morningside, Heath has worked in public school music education at all levels, K-12. Choirs and show choirs under his direction were awarded top honors at State, Regional and National levels.
Heath has directed the Catalyst Collective for over two decades. The camp, a two-week immersion housed at Morningside, includes academic pursuits, leadership training and intense performing arts for high ability youth nationwide. Heath has led the group on 8 global performance tours reaching 5 continents and 24 countries, most recently Germany and Austria. Groups under his direction have appeared at the World Conference on Gifted Children (Sydney, Australia and The Hague, Netherlands) and were official state guests on their tour to Taiwan (ROC).
His dissertation work in gifted education has earned him appearances at the National Conference on Gifted Children in Minneapolis and numerous state gifted conventions in the upper Midwest. He has made numerous presentations on adapted music education for students with disabilities, and vocal pedagogy and performancebased show choir at music conventions across Iowa and the Dakotas. As a performer he has appeared with The South Dakota Symphony, The Sioux City Symphony, and The South Dakota Chorale. Weber and his South Dakota Chorale colleagues earned three GRAMMY nominations for their work on the recording “Tyberg Masses.”
As clinician, adjudicator and guest conductor, Heath is in high demand across the Midwest. His work with summer enrichment opportunities, team building, and leadership training keeps his schedule full. When time permits, you can find him soaking up the sun by the lake on lazy summer weekends!
Luke Stursma is an English/Theatre Performance Major at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. While he was enrolled at Millard North High School, Luke was involved in a plethora of activities including marching band, one-act, theatre, choir, a capella, and of course, show choir! Luke adored being a part of Millard North Show Choirs when he was here and is very excited to be back again to emcee.
McKenna Cottone is delighted to be involved with Millard North Show Choir’s Galaxy of the Stars. Since her graduation from Millard North in 2020, she has been pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Performance at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. During her time at Millard North, McKenna was a proud member of both Illumination and Infinity. The last show she performed with MNSC was “A Tale of Two Queens” where she had the honor of portraying “Mary Queen of Scots.” Over the course of her show choir career, McKenna accumulated 5 “Best Female Soloist” awards and she developed a passion for performing. McKenna Cottone was the first director of Millard North’s Women’s A Capella group “Nova,” and she was also heavily involved in the MN theater department, having participated in musicals, plays, and the oneact. She is currently the Assistant Musical Director at Millard North Middle School. McKenna Cottone is so grateful for all of the opportunities and experiences she has had at Millard North.
Austin Fleck is so happy to be back at Millard North and would like to welcome everyone to Galaxy of the Stars! Austin graduated Millard North in 2019, and when attending, Austin was a heavy participant in the school’s theatre department. He took part in just about every school play, musical, and one-act, whether that be as a cast member, or working on a crew behind the scenes. In his senior year, Austin auditioned for show choir, and was honored to be placed in Infinity!
Through show choir, Austin had so many great experiences and made even greater friends throughout the season, both from his own school and other competing schools. It was an experience he will never forget, and he is extremely excited to see all of today’s performers do their thing! Austin is currently a junior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and he is a film studies major with minors in communications and theatre. After trying various courses in various departments at the university, he is ready for whatever the future brings, including a trip abroad this summer to Spain!

Center Stage is a middle school show choir for treble singers in grades 6-8 from SNJ Studio of Music. The philosophy behind Center Stage is to provide a fun, high-quality show choir experience and great preparation for high school show choir. Our 40 members come from schools throughout the metro area. Many of the girls are also in their own school’s show choir. Center Stage is a non-auditioned ensemble that rehearses once a week for 90 minutes. Center Stage appears today as an exhibition group and will not be competing for awards.

Dynamic is the treble show choir made up of 28 6th grade performers. These hard working students practice twice a week before and after school, while also being dedicated to their academics, sports, and other activities. This is the first year of show choir for all of these students! Dynamic is excited to perform their show for you! This show is about light: the light we find in ourselves, we see in each other, and we share with the world.

Cavallo is an ensemble of 37 singers and dancers, and is accompanied by a 2 piece show band. Cavallo rehearses 2 times a week before school. Subwoofers are the JV show choir comprised of 52 singer/dancers, the ensemble rehearses once a week after school. They are accompanied by their student band and crew, Wolfy Mammoth. Illuminations, is comprised of 26 singers and dancers. This year’s show, “Shut up and Show Choir” celebrates the group’s excitement to be back performing on the stage after a year of cancellations. Songs in this year’s show include Light Up the World, We Can Dream, and Shut Up and Dance. This season Illumination will be competing at Jefferson, Roosevelt, Sioux City East, Millard South, Washington and Millard North. Illuminations would like to thank all their family and friends who help make this year possible.

First Edition is the mixed show choir made up of 46 performers. These hard working students practice twice a week before and after school, while also being dedicated to their academics, sports, and other activities. Refractions, is comprised of 48 middle school students, most of which are in their first year of show choir. Refractions show, Our Year, is based on the emotions of a middle school year. It shows the excitement and apprehension that students feel in their everyday life at school. Refractions is extremely grateful for opportunity to have a full show choir season and all the parental support given to them, including driving them to their early morning rehearsals.

Westside Connection has been in existence for over 20 years. Westside Connection rehearses three days a week before school.
