74A-018 Bowieville (NR) 522 Church Road South Upper Marlboro vicinity Built in 1819, Bowieville is an elegant two-and-onehalf-story, stuccoed brick plantation house with a hip roof. Its outstanding decorative elements include a classical entrance with semi-elliptical fanlight and particularly fine interior trim. Bowieville was built by Mary Bowie on land she inherited from her father, Governor Robert Bowie. For the remainder of the 19th century, as the home of generations of the Berry family, Bowieville was a social center in central Prince George’s County. Bowieville was carefully restored using federal, state and local tax incentives early in the 21st century. It is the centerpiece of a new residential community, and is the most sophisticated late-Federal plantation house in Prince George’s County. Bowieville was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. 135
