The Royal School offers adiverse andvibrant sixth form experience.

Not only do our students achieve excellent results in the most rigorous, facilitating academic subjects, but the requirement for them to take on roles of responsibility alongside the arrival of new faces in Year 12 brings an added dimension to sixth form life.

Most of our existing GCSE students stay with us to study A-levels and BTECs, but we arealso delighted to welcome students joining us from other schools in the region as well as sixth form boarders from the UK and overseas.

Sixth Form students areattracted to The Royal for several reasons. We combine aspecialism in the STEM subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths with abroad range of A-level and BTEC subjects and students do particularly well in the traditional facilitating subjects required by Russell Group universities.

The average class size is 15-20, allowing everyone to receive the individual attention they deserve, resulting in strong, positive relationships forming among peers and between students and teaching staff.

High academic achievement is only part of the story.Universities and employers areincreasingly drawn to applicants who can demonstrate leadership, determination, resilience and flair. The Royal School excels in this style of ‘leadership education’ providing students with ample scope to thrive in cultural activities, competitive sports, and entrepreneurial endeavours, as well as opportunities to travel and make avalid contribution to the wider community

Every sixth former is expected to play an integral part in school life –beitthrough our house system, by mentoring younger pupils, or by getting involved in charitable and community-minded activities. It’sabig ask forany teenager, especially when they arerequired to study hardinall subjects, but it is these high expectations that set us apart from other sixth form providers in preparing students for abright and prosperous futureand it hasbeen evidenced that universities and employers arelooking for rather morethan good grades.
