Welcome to the 14th Annual Manchester Metropolitan PGR Conference.

This year, we decided to celebrate the fantastic skills Manchester Metropolitan University has to offer by creating Manchester Met’s first ever hybrid PGR conference!

With all the uncertainty that has filled the air over the past few years, we thought it would be important to focus on a positive vibe while looking to the future. We wanted to be able to celebrate all the efforts the PGRs have made, no matter how far through you are.

The six sub-themes include; * Diversity, inclusivity & global conversation * Sustainability * Mental health & Wellbeing * Technology, innovation & a new economy * Looking back to move forward * The future of practice And with these six outstanding sub-themes came dozens of outstanding PGR submissions. We hope you enjoy the conference as much as we have enjoyed creating it, because we believe it’s the PGRs of today that are, ‘Shaping the future with research’!

Gender-based violence and Minoritisation Khatidja Chantler (PhD) is Professor of Gender, Equalities and Communities at Manchester Metropolitan University and leads the Global Perspectives, Marginalisation and Thriving Communities Research Cluster. Her key areas of research expertise are gender-based violence, particularly within minoritised communities, self-harm, gender and ethnicity. Currently she is working on several national and international research projects on gender-based violence. She is Principal Investigator on ESRC funded studies on i) domestic homicide and ii) domestic abuse safeguarding during the COVID-19 pandemic. She has published widely in national and international journals and is author of several book chapters and co-editor of three books

JAKE SHEPPARD (he, him) Looking Back to Move Forward: Confederate Hagiography and the Persistence of White Supremacy In my presentation, I will demonstrate that white supremacist ideation lies latent in the historiography of the American Civil War, Confederate States of America and nineteenth-century transatlantic relations.

This is propagated both through faulty methodology – for example, making positive value judgements about Confederate “heroes” – and material support offered by revisionist organisations such as the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Body and cup sizing system The global apparel market is a 1.5 trillion-dollar industry with 43% clothes purchased returned because they do not fit, and over 80% of consumers unhappy with the sizing of clothing.
