of Karate and Community
Sensei Stennett Harvey, the esteemed Head Coach of Central England Wado-Ryu Karate Academy, is a name synonymous with dedication, excellence, and inspiration in the world of martial arts. With nearly 50 years of experience in karate, including 40 years of coaching, Stennett has transformed countless lives through his work at the Ikon Martial Arts Centre in Wolverhampton.
Under his leadership, over 200 students, ranging in age from 4 to 50+, participate weekly in classes tailored to all levels— from recreational learners to elite athletes competing internationally. Sensei Stennett’s guidance has propelled the club to remarkable achievements, including producing 9 British and British International gold medallists, as well as numerous silver and bronze winners in 2023. His coaching culminated in the club topping the English Karate Medals Table for 2024 with an impressive haul of 15 gold, 6 silver, and 6 bronze medals.
Beyond his technical expertise, Sensei Stennett’s commitment to social inclusion and community development is truly inspiring. His club reflects the vibrant diversity of Wolverhampton, with participants from over 10 nationalities and multi-generational families. He actively supports disadvantaged families and students with special educational needs, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment.
A certified coach with both the European and World Karate Federations, Sensei Stennett also serves as the Midlands Regional Coach. Through friendly events, school programmes, and mentorship, he provides not only world-class karate instruction but also vital community support.
Recently recognised as the MBCC Inspirational Sports Champion 2024 and Wolverhampton City Sports Advisory Council Sports Coach of the Year 2023, Sensei Stennett Harvey exemplifies how passion, perseverance, and service can create a legacy that uplifts an entire community.
