WOMEN IN THE SHADE

On 16th January, 145 delegates from 46 UK organisations gathered in Birmingham for the Women In The Shade 2025 conference, organised by Co-Founders Marcia Ore and Karen Geddes QPM. Hosted by BT Group, the event focused on the underrepresentation of Black women in uniformed services. Officially opened by the Lord-Lieutenant of West Midlands, Dr Derrick Anderson CBE, delegates were welcomed by Simon Foster, West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, and Neil Tipping, BT Group.

The conference featured a range of insightful speakers, including Grace Ononiwu CBE, Dr Shungu Hilda M’gadzah, and Nicolle Ndiweni-Roberts. Attendees also heard via video message from The Rt Hon Anneliese Dodds MP, Minister for Women & Equalities, who spoke the contribution of Black women in strengthening workplaces and communities.
