Here’s To Health, Wellness & Beauty

In this special issue, most of our articles are centered on health and wellness. Initially, I always regarded health as solely being related to the physical aspects of our body such as exercising, diet and nutrition.

On the other hand, a healthy and balanced life involves many other areas such as emotional, mental and spiritual soundness. It appears sometimes that attaining a healthy mix and well-grounded lifestyle can seem inaccessible and unrealistic.

Additionally, this particular edition would like to support beauty and skin tips as well as get on board with shifting some of our content in a very positive direction when it comes to women and their physical appearance. We believe that it is important to do whatever we can to help women feel better about themselves particularly during this crisis, we have all been experiencing throughout this pandemic era.

However, locating information on some of these very important topics are extremely smart goals which we should all incorporate into a plan of action for this year.

Specifically with such extended lengths of time in isolation and social distancing, we want to use our content to lift women’s spirits and remain hopeful by discussing health and beauty topics. With future issues focusing on some more of this content, we aspire to help make a difference in the lives of others.

For one, mental health affects the way we think, feel and interact with others. When our social-being is threatened, it affects us in a negative way. During the last year, there were a great deal of worldwide events that transpired which posed themselves as a direct threat to our well-being and challenged our mindsets on many levels.

All in all, we hope that our content helps to assist you with a higher level of thinking and in enhancing your daily experiences and spiritual walk.

Especially today, mental health support is crucial in helping us to cope with life. With that said, we are excited to feature Dr. Caroline Leaf, a global speaker, best-selling author and neuroscientist on our cover and to share from an excerpt from her newly released book, Cleaning Up YOUR MENTAL MESS.

Is Biotin Really Effective For Hair and Nail Growth?

individuals which suffered a biotin deficiency. In effect, evidence appears weak or practically non-existent when looking at the biotin benefits for healthy individuals.

On the whole, "Only 1 study has shown decreased levels of biotin in healthy individuals, though this data was confounded by multiple factors, including patient history. Therefore, in the absence of additional studies, we have found no evidence to suggest benefit from biotin supplementation outside of known deficiencies secondary to congenital or acquired causes.”1 In fact, research shows that patients that receive favorable results from taking biotin are those which have pre-existing unhealthy nail and hair conditions.2 In a nutshell, a biotin deficiency can either be acquired, through a poor or improper diet, or is most likely due to a genetic disorder. Further studies reveal that the administration of biotin is effective for those which have low biotin levels.

We hear a great deal about the effectiveness of biotin supplements, however does it really cause hair and nails to grow? The biotin vitamin is also known as Vitamin B7 or Vitamin H and has gained recognition for the advancement of hair and nail growth.

How To Keep Your Makeup Clean & Sanitized: Skin & Beauty Care

With all of the deep cleaning, disinfecting and sanitizing taking place during this COVID-19 age, we should not overlook taking measures to purify our beauty kits and specialized cosmetics.

In the same manner which we place on properly purifying surfaces, living spaces and objects is the same way we need to pay attention to those very products and tools we use on our skin.

As pointed out in Allure Magazine, cosmetic experts explain some of the best ways to decontaminate makeup which are both simple and inexpensive such as using Lysol wipes or hand sanitizer for the exterior surfaces.

Another measure is keeping makeup brushes in water for about an hour weekly and by also using alcohol spray (75% or higher) regularly as it vaporizes quickly and will not affect the quality of your cosmetics.

Just to add to this article, it does remind those that like to use their fingers to apply makeup or other skin products to make sure to wash your hands 20 seconds before and after applying.

However, I, personally discourage anyone from using their direct hands or fingers to apply cosmetics whenever possible.

Aside from boosting one's immune system and being extremely high in nutrients, the superfood spirulina is packed with vitamins, minerals and proteins. It also serves as a major component of many various skin care formations, including women’s cosmetics.

properties, and secondly the antiacne and wound healing properties.”1 It is also known for its capacity to decrease wrinkles.

DOMESTIC ABUSE The Rising of Yet Another Pandemic Did you know that as a result of COVID-19, there was a significant rise in domestic abuse cases worldwide? Hence, a new epidemic altogether in which governments around the world are not adequately prepared to deal with in the midst of this ongoing health crisis.

For example, there was an increase of 12% in the domestic abuse cases called into the New York City Police Department in early 2020 in comparison to those reported in 2019.

As a result, the New York State Council on Women and Girls developed a task force to further explore solutions for this ongoing and critical situation.

Consequently, sheltering in place now poses a new threat and not only to those who were already in domestic abuse situations.

According to the National Commission on COVID-19 and Criminal Justice, (CCJ) “Households without a recent history of domestic violence calls for service were a driving factor behind the increase in domestic violence calls.”

The CCJ goes on to say that the added stress of economic problems and a disturbance to daily routines caused by COVID may have caused a spike in calls to service.
