For Tom and Mary-Lee Hood, their time at MMI was all about...
Family, Love and Leadership Change is inevitable. It is often hard to navigate, but when you believe you’re leaving something in a little better position than when you started, it’s easier to make a transition. We’ll spend the next five months preparing for the Hoods to leave MMI so Tom can begin a new chapter as President of St. Agnes Academy-St. Dominic School (www.saa-sds.org) in Memphis, Tennessee. Tom
and Mary-Lee’s partnership has benefitted both MMI and the local community. He has served as both the Vice-President and Head of School while Mary-Lee has spent the last six years on the MMI faculty. Additionally, they are both involved in the local community; in their church, Boy Scouts, Rotary, and community gardens. They will leave behind a record of involvement and a solid foundation for the school to continue to move forward. Not many schools have the opportunity for close family members to work together. Some might say that living and working together, plus having children at the school, sounds challenging. But at the end of the day, it brought the Hood family closer together as each could relate to what was going on with the other throughout the day. “We weren’t sure how it was going to be at first with our children at the school and then Mary-Lee coming on to teach, but it was a blessing to be together and we feel it helped us both personally and professionally,” said Tom. Tom and Mary-Lee can often be heard referring to MMI as a family. From Tom’s opening remarks at many school events to day-to-day conversation, the underlying theme is about the school community as family. That has been intentional. Tom strongly believes that family sees you for who you are and the unconditional love that comes from that creates an atmosphere of support and honesty needed to provide a good environment for students.
