Project Type: Individual

The project territory is located in Digomi district, Tbilisi, Georgia. While choosing the exact location, several factors were considered in the district: increasing demographics, existing functional zones, existing educational establishments, lack of kindergartens.

The project itself is based on the concept of neuroarchitecture, taking in mind people’s, more specifically in this case children’s psychology. The project is also based on the main principles of Japanese Kindergarten Guidelines. Shapes’ influence on children, textures, materials, colors, lighting, connection between interior and exterior, all those aspects are carefully foreseen in the project.

It is scientifically proven that curved shapes stimulate more brain activity in comparison to linear shapes. Curved pathways seem more interesting and intriguing. This phenomena is connected with the primitive humans and their relationship with nature. Nature undeniably is full of curved, round shapes instead of strictly linear ones. Curved shapes are also more secure for children to play around the furniture.

Location Plan
The kindergarten is located in a business-public zone. It is easily accessible by public and private transport and is separated from the main road for safety/ecological reasons, having a large tree-lane barrier in the front, as well as on the other sides.

The kindergarten building is suitable for 96 kids in total. Conceptually it is divided in two parts: for kids under 4 and for kids under 6. The concept emphasizes the importance of creation, connection to art and sports. For that reason, there are: music room, sports room, pool, pottery room, football/basketball field in the yard.

Objectives

In each curve of the plan, there are reading spaces, making it more accessible for the kids. Interior design is decided in pastel colors, making the habitants calmer and more concentrated. Guided by the plan, the windows are also decided in round shapes, with stained as well as transparent glass. The use of natural light is maximized.

Pisa Citadel Park Project

The River Arno shaped the city of Pisa and became the passing line between the city walls. The bridges connecting the two sides have a crucial importance also as architectural iconic elements.

While compared to the building fabric around it, Citadel Park has a huge scale. The Pisa Walls surrounding the park create a buffer zone between the park and the surrounding building pattern.

The infrastructure, vehicular roads, and a railyard on the West of Citadel Park, provides everything in Pisa. Cutting of certain roads and pedestrianizing them would not cause negativity.

The project site is a park, surrounded by residential areas. It is adjacent to university buildings, museum institutions in historical buildings. Has an adjacent edge to an industrial zone, separated by a railyard. When the user profile is considered, the citadel park with social interventions can be integrated to citizens daily life.

The strategy of the project is to revive the historical walls as an architectural and cultural heritage asset by integrating them to the existing city wall pedestrian route. When the walls are reachable and usable by pedestrians, the site would start functioning again. Certain social interventions attract users so that the walls become part of the social life rather than being just a pathway. The aim of the project is to make minimal interventions, in order not to overstate the historical artifacts. The wall system becomes one continuous experience route together with the bridge.

Project Masterplan

The main concept of the proposed project revolves around the historical Pisa wall. We have created the path which follows the wall and creates a route for the visitors, also coming from piazza del Duomo. The wall path structure consists of the wooden deck and the oxidized steel stairs along with the pillars supporting the whole system. Creating a support structure helps us preserve the wall and keep it free from any loads. We use the metal stairs structure for vertical accesses between different levels on the wall as well as to connect the top of the wall level with the ground level. In the overall project we are using the same, existing materials as bricks, stones, city pavement, wood and oxidized steel. Keeping the existing outlook and surroundings.

In front of the city wall, we have created a park instead of the football pitch, which includes a piazza space for the concerts is connected to the university across the road with the help of the pavement (same one as on piazza dei Cavalieri). With the park. Our project proposes using different materials to emphasize on important and overlapping points. The park ic reasons, we create interesting angles, which could be observed from different spots of our created path. Since the

concerts or such events, pavilions with a free planning for different kinds of events and recreational space. The park space With one of our created paths, university students, as well as any visitor, can access directly to one of the pavilions, or park plan follows the same logic as our overall project-using orthogonal configuration and aesthetics. Besides aesthetthe main character of the project is the Pisa City wall, the pavilions remain modest but eye-catchy at the same time.

Affordable Housing in Chelas

Location: Lisbon, Portugal

Project Type: Individual

The project proposal is located in Chelas neighborhood, Lisbon, Portugal. In 1.73km towards the east, river Tagus flows. There is a Bela Vista metro station in 808 meters towards the northern-west. The surroundings consist of uneven, hilly terrain and public gardens.

The project site lacks the collective public spaces, resulting in the lack of communication between the neighbours. The goal of the project is to create an united, overlapping system, unifying its habitants with each other and with the surroundings. For that reason, the gabon wall which was existing in the north of the site, is replaced with the stairs, creating a collective space and a connection between different height levels.

The housing complex is suited for the middle class families living in Chelas neighborhood. Keeping the project goal in mind, the housing complex consists of three residential buildings in total. One of them is a gallery-type building and the two of them is a tower-type architecture.

Context Plan

One of the buildings is a gallery-type consisting of 36 apartments. The ground floor has a commercial function. Some of the shops and offices are 6 meters in height in order to create free and aerial space for the residents. The second floor is a public space for interactions and recreational reasons.

Section AA’

The residential complex has underground parking. The tree which was introduced in its interior creates a pleasant atmosphere by bringing the natural light through the floors and creates a recreational space to relax and enjoy. All three buildings consist of typical residential floors with modular apartments on each storey.
