ONLINE DOCTOR OF NURSING PRACTICE DEGREE PROGRAM The online Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree program is designed to prepare nurses for the highest level of clinical practice in the profession of nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP), or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). The program is designed in accordance with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Practice Nursing (2006). Following transcript review, applicants with a MSN may be eligible to transfer in up to 40 credit hours. The DNP courses are offered online via interactive video conferencing from the Tallahassee campus. Students come to the Tallahassee campus a total of five times for orientation to the program, an intensive weekend in the Advanced Skills for the APN course, Objective Structured Clinical Examination Assessments, and DNP project presentation exposition. Students work with preceptors in their local community to meet the learning objectives for the practicum courses.

COMING FALL 2020 - NEW ONLINE DNP MAJORS The BSN to DNP or Masters to DNP FNP Major includes a total of 79 credit hours of post baccalaureate study and 1035 clinical hours. Upon successful completion of this major, graduates will be eligible to sit for the FNP certification exam and be awarded the DNP degree. The BSN to DNP or Master to DNP ACNP Major includes a total of 76 credit hours of post baccalaureate study and 1035 clinical hours. Upon successful completion of this major, graduates will be eligible to sit for the ACNP certification exam and be awarded the DNP degree. The PMHNP to DNP Major includes a total of 41 credit hours of post Master’s study and 540 clinical hours. Upon successful completion of this major, graduate will be awarded the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. The DNP degree must be completed within seven (7) calendar years from the time of formal matriculation into the program.

Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Major This major is designed to prepare nurses for the highest level of clinical practice in the profession of nursing as an Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP). This new major includes a total of 76 credit hours of post baccalaureate study and 1035 clinical hours. The major is designed in accordance with the AACN Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Practice Nursing, the NONPF Core competencies, and Population Focus Nurse Practitioner Competencies (2013). Upon successful completion of this major, graduates will be eligible to sit for the ACNP certification exam and be awarded the DNP degree. Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner DNP Major The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree is designed to prepare nurses for the highest level of clinical practice in the profession of nursing as a Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) Nurse Practitioner. The program is for PMH nurse practitioners wishing to earn the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, which includes a total of 41 credit hours of post Master’s study and 540 clinical hours. The program is designed in accordance with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Practice Nursing, National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty (NONPF) Core competencies, and Population Focus Nurse Practitioner Competencies (2013). Upon completion of this program the graduate to be awarded the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. The applicant must have at least a Master’s as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and be a certified PMHNP. The academic transcript and resume of applicants with MSN degrees will be evaluated individually to determine the number of MSN degree credit and clinical hours that can be applied toward the DNP degree. Successful completion of 41 credit hours plus at least 40 transfer credit hours of post-Masters, graduate course work will complete the program of study. The coursework includes a successful completion of all courses with a B or higher and an evidence based DNP project. Must have a cumulative GPA in the program of 3.0 or higher. The DNP degree must be completed within 5 calendar years from time of formal matriculation into the program.


Graduate Certificate Program Psychiatric Mental Health Program Application Deadline is October 1 (Spring) and April 1 (Fall) n The online Psychiatric Mental Health Certificate is a post-masters/post-DNP certification program available to certified Family/Adult Nurse Practitioner graduates who would like to gain additional knowledge in advanced practice psychiatric mental health nursing of family. Incoming graduate students must have the taken the following graduate level courses prior to starting the program: Advance Health Assessment, Advance Pathophysiology, and Advance Pharmacology. The certificate will allow the graduate to sit for Psychiatric Mental Health Certification.

Apply to Florida State University and complete the Florida State University Graduate application online at https://admissions.fsu.edu/gradapp/ and upload all required admissions documents to the application. DNP APPLICATION DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS: 1. For the Family Nurse Practitioner and Acute Care majors a BSN degree from a nationally accredited program with an upper division grade point average of 3.0 or higher or MSN degree from a nationally accredited program with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. For the Psychiatric Mental Health major an MSN in Psychiatric Mental Health from a national accredited program with a graduate grade point average of 3.0 or higher. 2. Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended. 3. Unencumbered RN license. 4. Three (3) letters of recommendation. 5. Current CV or resume. 6. Essay answering the following questions: a) Tell us about your professional work experience as a nurse and other relevant professional experiences. Include leadership activities such as serving on committees, leading projects and involvement in professional associations. b) What are your career goals and how will a DNP degree help you with your goals?

PMH Certificate Program Application Process In order to apply for admission to the certificate program you must complete the following steps in order: 1. Go to https://fsu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_42Vcm8Zd0LQi65D and apply to the College of Nursing between December 1st and April 1st for Fall Admission or June 1st and October 1st for Spring Admission. The Admission Committee will review all applications and will send decision notification via email a few weeks after the published deadline. 2. Fax, email or mail required documents to the College of Nursing prior to the published deadline:    

Copy of official transcripts Copy of current APRN license Copy of current CV/Resume Proof of clinical hours completed for MSN or DNP program

3. IF accepted you will be required to apply to Florida State University as a Non-Degree Student between June 1st and August 1st if accepted for Fall, or June 1st and October 1st if accepted for Spring. Do not complete the non-degree student application until you have been accepted by the College of Nursing. An official transcript from each college and university attended, undergraduate and graduate, must also be submitted to the Office of Admission.
