This section of the master plan illustrates the development of a fluid core area for the site. The design is to encourage active and passive enjoyment for the user through different views. The civic space represents an active space with passive green spaces spaced around to celebrate the storm water runoff from the site.

The photos above were the inspiration to different aspects of this redevelopment project. The photo to the left was the envision of a central drop off location for user to safely exit vehicles, cross the street and have a common waiting space. The middle photo was an idea behind the rain garden system that would be installed along the main streets. Lastly, the photo on the right hand side of the page was the inspiration for the dock over the storm water pond located on the northern part of the site.

The enlarged master plan that is shown on the right hand side is a plan view is the core hub for the site. This is the entrance into the site that represents community but also enclosure. The clubhouse is the local gathering place for users to interact but also feel a sense of enclosure due to the use of vegetation, fencing and walls.

Grading Process

This is the grading changes that would need to be made to the proposed amenities area on the site. The drainage is situated so that the high point is located around the tennis and pickle ball courts. The changes in grading are indicated by the bold lines. The idea behind this plan was to try and keep the cost of grading changes low by designing with the current topography to provide a less invasive option for the Moss Side community.

A GLIMPSE INTO SMALL SCALE RESIDENTIAL RESIDENTIAL DESIGN

This section dives into the design of a small scale residential site. The following design focuses on a single family lot. Each design choice is highly detailed oriented, focusing on aesthetics and practicality for the user. Detailed analysis was used to create an unique space and scene for the user group.

HILL STREET RESIDENCE

The idea behind this design was to create an atmosphere that was calming and provided plenty of privacy for the residents. The home is located at the intersection of Hill and N Church Street. This design displays a linear form so that way privacy could be achieved. I began by centering the house in the middle of the site with the garage right behind it. The next step was to create an entertainment area located on the back side of the site. The existing trees along the south end of the site help create a buffer between the space and the property behind it.

Grading Process

These are the grading changes that were proposed for the Hill Street residential site. A rain garden installation in the northern left hand side of the site would catch the runoff going towards the main road. An underdrain pipe would run underneath the driveway in the direction of the rain garden. Lastly, a wall was proposed around the entertainment area of the property to ensure that the water would run into the swales properly.
