Oil price swings affect businesses across sectors. High oil prices adversely impact the economic growth of India as it imports 85% of oil requirement. Climate changes concerns and net zero targets, pushing the world towards Energy Transition. While the global leaders are clear about the destination, the road is going to be bumpy and along the journey Nations will have to make tough choices. Pandemic outbreak destroyed the demand and pushed down oil prices to negative zone for a brief period. As the world unmasked and mobility resumed, pent up demand pushed up the oil prices. In 2022 oil market was disrupted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, pushing Europe to re start coal and nuclear power plants and gas prices to record high level The talk will provide an overview of the oil industry, players in India and oil market, will focus on recent geopolitical events to make a sense of the current volatility in the oil market to provide an outlook Purpose is not to provide a forecast on oil prices, but to answer few important questions and outline possible scenarios on the emerging energy landscape so that audience leave slightly better informed to figure out the oil market and its role in larger context of Energy Transition

In his career spanning over 35 years in Upstream Oil & Gas Sector, Elango has held several leadership roles in different areas of the business and is a recognized leader in the Indian Oil and Gas industry.
Currently Elango is the Managing Director of Hindustan Oil Exploration Company Ltd (HOEC) since February 2015
Prior to joining HOEC, he was the Chief Executive Officer & Whole Time Director of Cairn India Limited.
Elango was one of the five finalists for Platts' first-ever Asia CEO of the Year award 2013.
Elango holds a Masters degree in Business Administarion and began his career with ONGC in 1985 and over a span of 10-years, has performed diverse roles Prior to joining Cairn India in January 1996.

Mr V Shankar an IITM, IIMC graduate who worked briefly then went on to found CAMS (Computer Age Management Services Pvt. He is involved with several organisations that promote entrepreneurship, as will as with both his alma mater.
