Synopsis
In addition, frequent occurrences of droughts and floods raise the key issue of disaster preparedness and the need for mainstreaming disaster risk reduction strategies. At the same time, countries are driven by development paradigms and competitive growth models.
While climate change continues to wrought havoc across geographies and the world over, Tamil Nadu, beginning with capital Chennai, is not exempt from its ill effects. The faster the urbanization in the state, worse has been the plight. Indeed, rising climate risks, climate mitigation and adaptation, vulnerability analysis, disaster management and livelihood resilience that are key scientific phrases the world over, are as much applicable to describe Tamil Nadu’s condition.
