Thank You Sequim High School From Our Seniors!
I want to compare SHS to my former school in Arizona In Arizona, I felt discouraged and outcasted, I was afraid to go to school But, in Sequim, I feel appreciated and enthusiastic to go to school Not only is the curriculum involving and challenging, my fellow students are always willing to help and I always feel accepted by them A core memory that I have with my fellow students is tough to think about, as many of my favorites are a bit too crazy to document in this space; however, I think the most memorable experience I have from Sequim is Senior Prom That was a night when I truly started to come out of my shell and open up to my classmates Since then, I have created many new friendships with people I had never even talked to before Although I love my class, my greatest thanks is to the teachers and staff of Sequim High School My counselors have worked tirelessly to ensure that I have enough credits to graduate and attend Northern Arizona University (GO LUMBERJACKS!) And last but not least, I want to thank my teachers who have helped me prosper both in school and in life Thank you Sequim High School Go Wolves! Madison Marchand
Change new beginnings I moved from California to Sequim at age 17 At first, things were rough I was still getting used to the change I was still in the mindset of having failed many of my classes in California When I moved to Sequim, I decided to get my stuff together to graduate I did it mostly for my mom, but I realized I wanted to make myself proud as well I then realized that school was easier than I thought, and I realized that school can be easy if you put forward a great effort I realized that home impacts a school career a lot, so moving to Sequim was a very positive change for me in my school career I am thankful for the teachers at SHS, as well as the other staff I am thankful for the students who were very positive and encouraging They inspired me a lot, and I am sure they inspire other students as well As I move forward, I look forward to going to Peninsula College with a couple of my best friends, strengthening my friendships with people in Sequim, continuing my education by transferring from PC, and getting work experience Thank you, Sequim High School!

Seventh Graders at Sequim Middle School Transform Dungeness River for Salmon Habitat Restoration
In an inspiring act of environmental stewardship, 113 enthusiastic seventh graders from Sequim Middle School embarked on a mission to rejuvenate a section of the Dungeness River. Over the course of two days, March 28th and 29th, these young eco-warriors, alongside leaders and volunteers from the North Olympic Salmon Coalition, restored over 7,200 square feet of vital riparian habitat.
Last fall, these students visited the site to evaluate and assess the area, gaining valuable knowledge about riparian zones, stewardship, and the importance of native shrubs and trees With newfound insight, they returned to school and, working in groups, engineered detailed salmon habitat restoration plans
Armed with shovels and determination, the students set out just before Spring Break to turn their plans into reality. They planted 342 native shrubs and trees, spread countless buckets of mulch, and meticulously followed 40 individual group plot maps to ensure every detail was executed perfectly. Despite the hard work and the inevitable exhaustion, the students returned to school with a deep sense of accomplishment, knowing they had made a tangible impact on the Dungeness River ecosystem Their efforts promise to support the health and sustainability of local salmon populations, reflecting a powerful blend of education and action
This remarkable project was made possible with the guidance and expertise of the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe and the North Olympic Salmon Coalition. Special thanks go to the four parent chaperones who provided essential support and direction throughout the endeavor.
The initiative undertaken by the students at Sequim Middle School highlights the power of community collaboration and the critical role of education in fostering environmental stewardship. Their dedication ensures a healthier habitat for salmon and sets a shining example for future conservation efforts

Thirteen Students Successfully Complete ELL Program
Thirteen students from diverse bilingual and multilingual backgrounds have graduated from the English Language Learners (ELL) program this spring These students, who speak languages such as Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Patois, Gujarati, Indigenous languages from Guatemala, Portuguese, and Japanese, have achieved proficiency in English
To reach this milestone, students passed the annual World-class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) test, which assesses listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. This test ensures they have the necessary English proficiency for academic success.
The accomplishment is celebrated with enthusiasm by the students, teacher Mrs. Dietzman, and their families. Each student receives a certificate, which is presented in their general classrooms. This presentation also educates the entire class about the importance of bilingualism and cultural diversity.
This success not only recognizes the students' hard work but also promotes an inclusive and culturally rich school environment The achievements of these students highlight the support provided by the ELL program in growing academic and linguistic excellence

Thank You Sequim Middle School From Our 8th Graders!
Sequim Middle School, Thank you for providing a safe learning environment. I have learned a considerable amount from all the teachers throughout my middle school experience. I greatly appreciate all the effort that was displayed by my teachers. The staff have made our school a safe place where students could feel comfortable and safe. To this day I remember how much I was taught by my amazing 7th grade teachers. Throughout their many hardships, our teachers have pushed through and still managed to greatly educate their students. The office staff Mrs. Brewer and Mrs. Forshaw have been amazing and open to making students feel safe and allowing them to use their office as a space to eat lunch. I have many memories of times that teachers or staff members have gone out of their ways to help and provide a better experience for students. It was a big change, switching from around 2 classes to 6. Although this change was massive, my teachers made the transition very easy. I have learned how to be a better person, along with a lot of academic information. I am grateful for everything that I have learned and all that has been provided for me at this school. ~Ashton Litten

Thank you, Sequim Middle School, for teaching me to deal with masks and get through Covid-19 even though it was an extremely hard time. I loved many of the classes that I have had through the years, Band, it was so much fun playing instruments, yes, I did switch between the flute trumpet and clarinet, but it was still so much fun. Art, art taught me a lot of things like, I do not need to know how to draw a perfect circle just to be an artist, I can make art out of anything if I try. Art III was amazing. I loved how challenging that class was challenging enough to help me get out of my comfort zone. Leadership is an amazing class and I loved planning the dances and events and everything. Spanish, Spanish is such a fun class it has really helped me understand that people in other places speak differently and when they come here, they cannot communicate easily unless they know English or if they have a translator Spanish has begun me for high school as I am planning to take Spanish through high school. Thank you, Sequim Middle School, for teaching me and helping me learn.
~Reagan Whitmarsh

Thank you, Sequim middle school, for giving me the opportunity to have free education. It is such a privilege that I get to learn every single day for free, I am so lucky and grateful for all the memories I have made throughout the years in this school When I first started 6th grade it was during quarantine so online school was my only option at that point But a little over halfway into the year I finally got the chance to go to “In person school” as we called it, which was amazing but also came with the fear of getting sick The school staff did a great job at making sure everyone was safe and well while still building a strict boundary that masks were mandatory The start of my 7th grade year was magical with no mandatory masks and science field trips galore I loved going on the field trip to the Dungeness River to study the different plants and insects in the ecosystem as well as later in the year when we went back to plant trees all around the river Now I am in my 8th year of school and about to go to high school This year has been difficult with friends, sports, and academics Me and my parents have high expectations about my grades which is difficult when you are in Honors Geometry as an 8th grader I am so grateful for the opportunities that I've had at this school and thank you to everyone at this school for letting so many kids have free education Finley Rapelje

PC:M.Lyke
Thank you, Sequim Middle School, for giving me a life-changing experience. I met tons of new people and did tons of fun stuff at this school. Since I joined during Covid the school was in an awkward state, but they made the best of a rough situation and did the best they could. The sports I have participated in were amazing and I learned a lot from my coaches during the seasons. Electives wise, I have done all 4 art classes provided, band and journey through film and each elective curriculum is well planned and I learned so much in those classes. I'm also in the leadership class in which we planned a ton of events and worked on improving our school and I enjoy being so involved in such an awesome school. I also really love the honors system and how they let students get high school credits for algebra and geometry in middle school. In my 8th grade year, they started doing student of the month and honor roll assemblies which are super nice since they let students get recognition for their hard work. The teachers here are super nice and are all really good at teaching their classes so us students can get a good education. I’m so glad I went to Sequim Middle School, thank you. ~Luna Manley

The three years I've been at middle school have been anything but perfect. From transitioning from covid, to the odd middle years, to pushing forward to graduate to a new chapter of life. Throughout all of this, there have, and always will be, imperfections. Imperfections are what make us human, without them, there’s no individuality. There would be no personality, no little spark in each person you meet. Although these imperfections made the past years hard, they also made these years some of the best for me. Even though some may say that we could've had better, which is entirely true, I’d like to instead say thank you. Thank you to SMS for staying open during covid, making it so that I could see my friends every day. Thank you for your amazing staff, who have run clubs that make my dark days so much brighter. Thank you for the amazing teachers, who although had to deal with the ruff circumstances, still stayed positive and joyful to the end. Thank you for always trying to make the schools days fun, and thank you for the supportive counselors, who always have their doors open, and who try their hardest for any kid who needs them. ~Elyse Kim

I’m sure that there are many others that have gone through some of the same experiences as me from the Covid lock down, however I do think that my school has helped me in ways that I am very grateful for. Not only have the teachers here been incredibly patient with me, but the other students and the community are also so supportive of my education. I’m also very appreciative of how my school provides accelerated math classes that can help me get ahead in my school career. I am in Algebra, a 9th grade class, and there are others in Geometry, a 10th grade class. Not to mention the after-school activities; we have school dances, sports, clubs, and more, some kids that have nothing to do when they get home have had a chance to make more friends and pick up new skills. We have a very long list of electives that students can pick from, one of my favorites has been leadership, Mrs. Mishko is the teacher, and she has helped me with so much and is an excellent person. I am very grateful that Sequim Middle School was part of my journey, and I am grateful for all the memories and skills I have learned. ~Kylie Peters

Fifth Graders Spread Kindness at Helen Haller Elementary
The typically energetic Friday mornings at Helen Haller Elementary School were extra special this year, thanks to the dedicated and enthusiastic fifth graders from the Kindness Squad led by Helen Haller teacher Sarah Castell. These students took it upon themselves to spread positivity and joy throughout the school in a unique and heartwarming way.
As students arrived at school, the kindness squad would come up with ways that could bring Fridays to the next level. One Friday they attached "kindness clips" stealthily to backpacks. First Graders Achieve Pencil Balancing

Kindergartners Dive into Fabric Exploration
Mrs. Skogsberg's kindergarten class at Greywolf Elementary delved into the world of textiles. Exploring the origins of fabric, the students engaged in a hands-on activity involving burlap and plaid. Students eagerly examined the fabrics up close, using magnifying glasses to observe the intricate details of the fibers. Working diligently, they carefully pulled apart the burlap and plaid, noting the textures and patterns.
First graders at Greywolf Elementary recently undertook a fascinating scientific challenge: balancing a pencil on its tip This hands-on activity allowed students to explore principles of balance and weight distribution, engaging both curiosity and critical thinking.
The classroom buzzed with excitement as students tested various methods to balance their pencils. They experimented with different placements of counterweights, applying their prior knowledge of balance to solve the problem Through trial and error, the first graders discovered the precise spots to add counterweights, gradually perfecting their designs The activity not only reinforced scientific concepts but also taught valuable lessons in resilience and problem-solving. The students' determination and collaborative spirit were evident as they worked together, shared ideas, and celebrated each small success along the way.
In a classroom transformed into a makeshift laboratory, the kindergartners recorded their observations on paper, creating colorful diagrams of the fibers they had explored gaining a deeper understanding of where fabric comes from and how it is constructed Through this immersive activity, they honed their observation skills and grew a sense of wonder about the world around them

Bring Learning to Life with Habitat Diorama Projects
