RECREATION PROGRAM GUIDE FOR MOUNTLAKE TERRACE
January – April 2025
The Mountlake Terrace Recreation & Parks Department follows the Edmonds School District’s recommendations on school days between Monday and Friday regarding closure of schools due to inclement weather. Recreation staff will post on social media and update the website as soon as possible on weather event days.
IF EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT ANNOUNCES A LATE START:
If the Edmonds School District has a two-hour late start, the Recreation Pavilion will open two hours late for all drop-in programs. Junior Kids Krew and all Kids Krew sites will also start two hours late, opening at 8:30 a.m. instead of 6:30 a.m. In this situation, Preschool and Kindergarten Readiness will be canceled. All instructor-led classes with a start time after the two-hour delay will be held at their regularly scheduled times
IF EDMONDS SCHOOL DISTRICT ANNOUNCES A CLOSURE:
If the Edmonds School District has canceled school due to inclement weather, the Recreation Pavilion will open two hours late for drop-in activities not led by an instructor unless posted differently on the City’s social media sites or voicemail recording. Instructor/teacher led classes such as childcare programs, swimming lessons, water fitness, land fitness and dance classes with a start time before 3 p.m. will be canceled. Weather conditions will be reassessed in the afternoon for late afternoon and evening programs
If the Edmonds School District is not open (school breaks, weekends, etc.) and there is inclement weather, recreation staff will make the determination whether to cancel programs, open late or close the Pavilion. In any case, if programs are cancelled, social media and voicemail recording will be updated as soon as possible. Weather conditions will be reassessed in the afternoon for late afternoon and evening programs.
For information on Swimming Lessons, Dance Classes, and other programs with a start time after 3 p.m. on days when the Edmonds School District cancels classes, please check social media or call the Recreation Pavilion at 425-776-9173 after 2:30 p.m. to find out whether these classes will be held.
Preschool, Kindergarten Readiness, Swimming Lessons, and Dance Classes that are missed due to weather or closure of the Pavilion will not be made up. Makeup days for Junior Kids Krew and Kids Krew will be the same as the Edmonds School District make-up days. In all cases, conditions will be reassessed.

Our preschool/early childhood programs are rich in play experiences that provide opportunities for children to learn basic skills and concepts needed for later academic success. Children are encouraged to explore using all their senses through developmentally appropriate individual and group activities in a safe, nurturing and fun environment. Our curriculum is based on monthly themes that facilitate and encourage children’s social and emotional growth, and cognitive development through successful accomplishments. Activities include creative expression through art, movement, dramatic play, language opportunities, hands-on math and science experiences, arts and crafts, and enhancement opportunities such as community field trips, dance and/or swimming in our life guarded pool. These programs maintain a staff to child ratio of 1:10 and maximum group size of 20 children. All three early childhood programs take place at our Recreation Pavilion.
These children most often have the ability to follow simple directions and cooperate with others. They are learning and growing their social skills and it is our job to help them along. They should also have the ability to separate from their parents/guardians at morning drop-off time. Children eligible for kindergarten in fall 2024 cannot be accepted into these programs.
