Mountlake Terrace Dance Academy Classes

1ST SEMESTER: SEPTEMBER 12 – FEBRUARY 4 • 2ND SEMESTER: FEBRUARY 6 – JUNE 17 Our excellent instructors provide a structured approach to dance, with emphasis on technique, creativity, and

building self-esteem. Our yearly Dance Academy program is based on a full school years curriculum and begins with children who are 3 .5 years of age as of Sept 1st 2022 . For children younger please see our Quarterly classes . Students may enter the program any time . However, all dancers will be evaluated in their first class for proper placement at the teacher and directors discretion . For more information contact Chloe Davenport at (425) 640-3107 . Ballet I-V

Danseurs & Ballerinas build strength, flexibility and grace in a non-competitive, encouraging environment . These traditional classes focus on ballet vocabulary, correct alignment, and finding personal expression within the form . Barre-work, center floor exercises and movement across the room will all be included in an appropriate way for each level . Students may be placed in a different level after evaluation in the first week of classes . *We also have Adult Ballet . See page 15 .

Lyrical

A popular free flowing dance form that uses elements of ballet, contemporary and Jazz to express the words to the music . It’s often seen in music videos and TV dance competitions . Jazz I and Ballet I are excellent preparation levels for dancers who aren’t 8 by Sept . 1st 2022 .

Dress Code

IN GENERAL:

• Never wear your dance shoes outside - always change your shoes at the studio door • Everyone’s hair must be secured off their face so they can focus on learning to move • Jeans and other non-flexible fabrics aren’t appropriate for dance

CREATIVE DANCE (AGES 3.5-5)

Boys – Sweats or shorts and a plain t-shirt, bare feet Girls – any color leotard and footless tights or leggings, bare feet

CREATIVE PRE BALLET (AGES 5-7), BALLET LEVELS I – V

Boys – plain t-shirt, black tights or leggings and black leather ballet shoes Girls – black leotard, pink tights, and pink leather ballet shoes . Level II-V must have their hair in a bun . Pre-Ballet and Level I are practicing buns every week

JAZZ / LYRICAL

Boys & girls – black jazz or yoga pants, plain t-shirt or leotard, black jazz shoes or lyrical half soles respectively

IRISH STEP DANCE

Dance sportswear and black Irish Step shoes or black ballet slippers
