Staff Appreciation!

Steve Keizer Mr. Keizer, the weight training coach, is well known for his positive attitude and contagious ambition. Keiz never fails to put a smile on his students’ faces. He sees the potential in his students and reminds them that the sky's the limit. Not only has he been a leader in the weight room, but he has also been a leader on the field. Keizer continues to showcase his players’ passion for football as he leads them to the playoffs.

Eric Rice An art enthusiast, Mr. Rice is an all-star in the studio. He builds a connection with his students like no other, always makes his students laugh, and lights up any room he walks into. Rice provides a comfortable environment for his students and encourages them to go above and beyond with projects. Rice, thank you for painting Skyview blue. “... My favorite memory is just joking around with him and my friends last year. Now all I do is say hi in the hallway but he still makes me smile!”

Student Appreciation!

Joycelyn Babcock Meet (Joey)! Joey’s kind-hearted spirit influences others to spread positivity. She is co-president of the book club and shines in Skyview’s orchestra, Joey never fails to put her best foot forward for others and offers her best support.

“Joey stands out to me because she's so kind and responsible.

Whenever lunch is ending, she'll pick up trash around our table when other people don't pick it up. She's also very good at understanding others' feelings. When I was going through a time where I needed some extra help, she'd offer it to me and gladly did it.”

Chris Vega-Lyons - Meet Chris! Chris, our Skyview Magazine illustrator, was voted multiple times for his selfless actions, always rushing to help those who need it. Chris reminds Skyview to keep working towards your goals and to help others along the way to success.

Sports!

Cross Country On November 4th our girls cross country team had 7 runners compete at State in Pasco, Wa. Junior Daphne Evenson is the first runner to make the podium at state since 2019! She finished in 15th place.

Football On November 3rd, our football team defeated the Bethel Bisons in the first round of playoffs with a score of 49 to 21.

This great season concluded with a great game against Eastlake HS on November 18th.

Girls & Boys Swim -In girls swim, Sophomore Bailey Trahan went to state and placed 18th!

Girls Bowling Girls bowling had their first 2 wins of the season! Once November 13th against Evergreen 2123-1581, and again November 21st against Kelso 1951-1339.

Boys Basketball The Varsity roster was announced! This years team includes Demaree Collins (Senior), Jaxson Filler (Senior), Gavin Perdue (Senior), Gavin Packer (Junior), Javen Fletch (Junior), Malakai Weimer (Sophomore) Landon Webb (Junior), and Ryan Hanson (Junior).

Girls Basketball Just before Thanksgiving our varsity girls basketball spent their afternoon at the Clark County Food Bank packing boxes of food. In the end they were left with over 3,000 meals worth!

This years varsity team consists of Brooke Riley (Senior), Kiera Parks (Senior), Samantha Groesbeck (Senior), Taryah Hamstreet (Senior), Lainey Phillips (Junior), Kaydance Stratton (Junior), Charlotte Baker (Junior), Brynlee Williams (Sophomore), Elan Estes (Sophomore), Cameron Watson (Freshman), Jaeley Dean (Sophomore), and Rebelle Epps (Freshman)

Sid’s in charge of hair and . makeup so they’re most excited . to see their hard work flourish . . as the cast feels great getting . . dolled up for the show. Their favorite part about being on crew is being able to get a head start in experiencing a future career in hair and makeup. With lots of help from other crew members, Sid is able to stay organized and time efficient while working. He also uses the notes app and a notebook to keep track of things that need to be done. Sid has been acting since they were in 4th grade! He also performs in shows for a company outside of Skyview and helps with costumes for shows for younger kids there.

When asked he said his favorite line was, “Is this the right address to meet a Mr. Boddy?” If he could choose any other character to play Jonathan would choose Colonel Mustard because he’s a strict military character. He’s not sure if he wants to continue pursuing theater after high school, but it could possibly be something he just does for fun. After he graduates he’ll miss the loving community, and he feels that it’s a very inviting environment where people can just be themselves.

Skyview SMT Earlier November, SMT held our annual Tech Day. Tech day allows students to apply various qualities they’ve learned throughout the year to work together and solve themed critical-thinking problems.

This year’s theme, Murder Mystery, allowed all magnet students to work together and participate in Skyview’s collaborative tradition.

“Watching different students of the SMT program work with each other is my favorite part of Tech Day. SMT is a very strong program because both teachers and students have a genuine drive for STEM success.”

- Mr. Short : SMT Faculty Skyview’s SMT (Science, Math, and Technology) Magnet program is one of a kind. SMT allows students to engage with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to further their education in the STEM field. SMT provides education to set students up for success.

“Band has made me a hard working individual, I used to be extremely lazy in middle school but marching band taught me a lot of endurance and how to push through a lot of things. I joined a band in 7th grade and a lot of people don’t realize how much work goes into it.”

“Band competitions have helped me manage my time and provoke a sense of responsibility. Sometimes the band is really chaotic, so it’s helped me come out of my shell and really learn the balance of school, social, and extracurricular activities.”

I’ve also never been to school at a normal time in 7 years, I’m always here for 7 hours or more and it’s all worth it for Jazz Band!

Overall, I’ve had to adapt a lot through band and it has shaped me into the person I am today.”
