What can older people learn from new generations? Ever since the beginning of times, older people have been considered to be wiser than younger ones. This might be due to the fact that they have gone through a lot of experiences, which are likely to have taught them some significant life lessons; but does this mean they do not have anything new to learn? To begin with, it is of popular knowledge that young people tend to adapt more easily than the elders. The fact that modern society and technology advance in such quick manners forces them to get used to changing, something that does not normally happen to those in the third age. They usually have a rougher time when it comes to wrapping their head around new ways of thinking and seeing the world. As previously stated, one of the issues they struggle with is technology and the way it constantly develops. This may cause them to feel left out or outdated, which is why it is crucial for them to try to adapt to these modern tools. It is of key importance for them to be open to new developments so that they can be part of the process of globalization as well. In connection to this, being an adaptable individual brings some benefits as regards the formation of character, which leads me to the following point; open-mindedness. Today´s youth is known for being inclusive towards all sorts of differences. One of the issues in which society has advanced at unimaginable rates concerns the segregation of LGBTQI+ people. Years ago, this used to be considered as taboo, therefore no one would talk about it. LGBTQI+ people used to be afraid of expressing themselves out loud, as people were intolerant and harsh towards them. Slowly, people in the third age are coming to understand that someone´s sexual orientation does not define them as human beings. Recent generations seem to have understood that there is more than one possibility when it comes to whom you love, what gender you identify yourself with, and such. Everyone is different, and that is something older people have to learn to respect and embrace. Thirdly, I would like to emphasize how free and individualistic younger generations are nowadays. Back in the old days, people´s behaviors used to be delimitated by haunting stereotypes. Their role in society used to be determined by their gender; women were bound to be housewives and men would be the ones bringing the money home. These days, the situation has changed a lot, as anyone is free to dedicate their time to whatever they desire, despite gender. The issue here is that some old people have not come to terms with this yet. Do not misinterpret what I am trying to say; I do not mean that they do this on purpose.
