Positive living Who are you really? Much of who you are will alter daily. Depending on who you’re with, what you’re doing and who is with you; what’s playing out and is expected; your hormones, mood and outlook, your state of mind and health; socio economic pressures, peer and self-conditioning; belief structures and limitations, wants and needs, opportunities, decisions, choice and chance; time and date and weather – and even food all play their part… Not all is born of choice. Much is automatic or expected as usually done at different points and stages of life unfolding. (I am I) Yet you are a work of art. You’ve worked your whole life long to perfect the perfect you – to become the unique character now presenting. (I am I) Just as you intake air - you create and help form life with everything you think and do with everything around you. Life connects directly with you. All things touch, develop, change and affect you. So now let’s take another look at who you are. You were in your mother’s womb for 9 gestating months to prepare you for the world that you would birth in. Her worries, thoughts and feelings, her state of health, mind and conditioning, her DNA and deep cell programming and your fathers at conception – will somehow all play part in who you are and how you grew. From birth you were conditioned to family and social patterning, expectations, behaviours, needs and wants. You were trained to act and think as those around you did – or not. You had to fit the general moulding of how society ‘thought you should be’ at every stage. Yet still you are more than that. You are individual and you are free. You are intelligent. You are creative. You have free will and personal choice… There is no need to place a lid on what you are and can achieve, for you are conscious mind and energy living now; for unfolding live experiences, expression and exploration - at your leisure. There is nothing at all on Earth that you can’t try. Your parents birthed and grew you sure enough – but you are not them. You are made of bone and skin, of minerals, chemicals and earthly stuff. You have deep down within you inherited genes, traits, flaws, strengths, patterns and conditioning, but still your personal self is more than that… You are more than what you think and do on a normal daily basis. You are not the clothes you wear, the work you do, the food you eat; for these are passing trends that will alter at a whim as time and life continue. You are not your education or your family/social patterning; you are not your social standing or the portrayal of who you feel you are today, for all of these and more are just the building blocks of time and nature; of personal character formation, growth and finer tuning, that you can manipulate or work between as you evolve the real time story you are living. Now let’s look at your working body. Think of it not as a solid structure – but more an actively working process where activity never stops. Every working part maintains a state of constant cell replenishment and energetic regeneration. Your inner world (touch, taste, ingestion, sight, sound, feelings, smell) continuously influences and affects your physical reality – thereby your form. Every breath and every atom that’s breathed in – is then breathed out in equal measure used and spent. Skin, skeleton and DNA – all replenish and replace again consistently. The physical, the body, recycles, evolves and changes all the time, as does memory, karma, dreams, wants, thoughts and needs.

4 mkflyers central

So of everything you are – how much remains consistent or is the actual age you think? How you feel about yourself controls how you live your life, but life is also hampered by further changeable conditions – such as energy, time and finance, outsider/ personal/mass opinion and media influence… You may be doing the work you do more for convenience because you have to – than for pleasure or personal choice, which then doubles back to again affect how you are feeling from day to day… Who you are is often clouded by who you think yourself to be. When in reality you are anything and nothing all at once. If you stripped away your story line and drama what would you then be left with? Who would you feel yourself to be without your ‘stuff’? In essence you are love – you are soul – and you are heart (positive energy, love and light all bound as one in continuous conscious movement). You are creation at its finest every day you walk this Earth. You are living soul expression as you wish. You are personally downloading your own take of greater life back into the whole – like rubber stamping what it means to be physically on the planet in this time frame. You relay your thoughts and feelings as live instructions back to life, for it to then adhere to as you request; for life cannot discern itself the many differences between good or bad, right or wrong, negative or positive, needed or not… How often do you pause to think about the story line you are creating? How often do you view yourself from the outside in – or inside out, to see your live persona from different perspectives? How you live and who you are is completely up to you; but don’t be fooled to think this life is all there is; that you only need tread water until your time is over - to get through... Don’t believe we just snuff out - or that all you go through is for nothing in the end… Don’t believe you’re insignificant or that you live only here and now and no more exists… Every carnal thing about you is constantly changing and updating, so nothing is physically permanent, but your energy self, your real self, is your soul. Your soul is who you are. It is this that is immortal. It is this that holds the memory of the person you really are and always have been. Soul binds you to your physical. Nothing gets forgotten. Nothing fades away. Nothing can be hidden for all’s recorded and stays visible – just not to us… Now once again we ask you – who you really are? Who Are You Really?

Until next month, Be safe, well and happy… Be all you search outwardly for…

Clarifying Gross Misconduct Actions

G

ross misconduct is a term that is referred to in employment when someone’s conduct is so serious, dangerous or negligent that the employer feels they cannot continue to employ the individual. Often the consequence of such serious misconduct, in worst case scenario, is summary dismissal i.e. dismissal without notice. A disciplinary policy and procedure is a must and most businesses will have one in place. However, is your policy clear as to which actions constitute misconduct and which constitute gross misconduct? How can your employees be expected to know whether you are going to treat, for e.g. persistent lateness, as misconduct or gross misconduct?

more so than others and their policy should reflect this. A one size disciplinary policy does not fit all organisations. The disciplinary policy should aim to have some examples covering a range of acts and scenarios to demonstrate what they would treat as Gross Misconduct and the potential sanctions they could impose, including dismissal. Dismissal could be part of a suite of sanctions and not the only one. What an employer cannot do is dismiss an employee for an action they have described as potential misconduct in their disciplinary policy where the sanction is a written warning. Employment Tribunals have often found against the employer where the employer has added up the misconduct acts to dismiss someone for gross misconduct. It’s always going to be difficult to mention every situation which is potentially gross misconduct so explain that the list is intended as a guide and not an exhaustive list.

Apart from the obvious serious acts like theft, lying, breaches of policy, being negligent in duties, etc. there are some other actions that will depend on the employer and their attitude to what they feel is Gross Misconduct. Continuing with the example of persistent lateness some businesses may tolerate this

Here’s what our customers say about mkflyers... I have advertised local courses with MK Flyers for over a year. I find Stuart easy to deal with and enthusiastic about getting results for my business. I would recommend Stuart and MK Flyers to anyone looking to increase their profile or advertise their services. With a circulation of 44,000 it represents excellent value for money. Sarah Setterfield,

MP’s Diary Strong Employment & Continuing Growth As MP for Milton Keynes North, I welcome yet more encouraging news alongside April’s lower inflation figures. This is further compelling evidence that the Government’s economic plan is working. There are now a record number of jobs in Britain and we have taken a further step in meeting the Chancellor’s aim for full employment. For every job created means another family will have greater economic security and the prospect of a brighter future. I have to say that we still have much to do and families are facing pressures on their budgets. This news supports the argument we have made all along, that the only way to see a rise in living standards is to grow the economy. We have definately seen progress and we are moving in the right direction.

Walking & Talking with Guide Dogs I grasped with both hands the opportunity to experience travelling around Milton Keynes as a visually impaired person. Blindfolded and armed with a white cane, I very quickly became aware of the barriers visually impaired people have to face. Travelling on a bus to Milton Keynes Central, the team from the Guide Dogs asked me to

speak with the local authority to consider a variety of campaigns, one of which is the need for “talking buses”. For a sighted person, missing a stop is an annoyance, for somebody with sight loss it is potentially dangerous. Most blind passengers have to rely upon bus drivers to tell them when to get off and the fear of this situation deters people from travelling on public transport. I experienced an overwhelming vulnerability and being totally reliant on my senses, this exercise undoubtedly helped me to understand their challenges. I will be fully supporting calls for gradual introduction of audio announcements on buses following the select committee report.

VW Golf Cabriolet Reviewed 14/05/14

A

nyone fancy going topless this summer??

This is a great little car! It’s got the lot; a great engine, it’s a convertible so you can get a tan in the summer, and there is even still room in the back for an adult if you need it. The turbocharged petrol engines on offer include a 103bhp 1.2, two 1.4s with 120bhp or 158bhp (the latter is also supercharged), and a 2.0 in 208bhp and 261bhp outputs for the GTI and R. The lower-powered 1.4 is our overall favourite thanks to its mixture of flexibility and economy, but the more powerful units are more fun. Both the turbo diesel choices, the 103bhp 1.6 and the 138bhp 2.0, are sound buys for high mileage drivers. We drove the 1.6TDI and it was great. The ride is also very impressive - chopping off the roof can have a massive effect on ride and handling but it hasn’t on this. They have done it really well and with the roof up you wouldn’t know it’s a soft top with very little road noise. The Golf Cabriolet is a genuine four-seater; two adults can sit in the back without feeling cramped. Alternatively, you can drop the rear seats to supplement the boot, which has a modest

250-litre capacity and a small opening. The roof folds down in just 9.5 seconds, and can be operated with the car travelling at speeds of up to 19mph. There are three trims: S, SE and GT. Every version has air-con, alloy wheels, a DAB radio, Bluetooth connectivity and a fully electric roof. SE adds cruise control and parking sensors, while GT and R models add sports seats, style upgrades and sports suspension. Having previously been driving a new SLK I did think I would be disappointed in this but I wasn’t - over all it looks good, drives well, and has a good standard spec. Score 8/10

MPH = 64 Combine d Top speed = 116 0-60 = 12.0 CO2 = 117 On the road price £2 6,200 (Lease price £199+v at over 3 years with 6 payments up front based on 5k miles a year)

T

his last month has demonstrated once again the wonderfully positive can-do character of MK. I was delighted to support Destination Milton Keynes, in their quest to get residents, visitors and businesses to spread their love for Milton Keynes as they hosted the second annual #LoveMK Day on Thursday 1 May 2014. Along with many others, I took to Twitter in an attempt to get #LoveMK trending as it did last year. There is further progress surrounding MKFM’s campaign for a permanent FM licence. Following the debate I led in Parliament a few weeks ago, I hosted a meeting in Westminster between MKFM and representatives from Ofcom. It was a very positive discussion and I am hopeful that, with continued work, MKFM will receive their FM licence much earlier. I recently supported ‘Catch The Bus Week’, which urged people to try and use the bus instead of their car for certain journeys. The use of public transport is incredibly important and I’m pleased that many across Milton Keynes saw the benefit of bus travel. Our entrepreneurial flair was very much evident when I attended The Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Young Enterprise Company of the Year final at the Open University. I saw a great range of young entrepreneurs battling it out and heard great success stories from across the county – I wish them all the best of luck. ers mkfly

This Government has made a substantial investment in renewing and expanding the nation’s infrastructure. I believe there is a real need to get more young people into engineering so that we will have the long-term skills base for projects such as the HS2 Skills Academy which I hope will come to Milton Keynes I raised this recently at Prime Minister’s Questions. Finally, Leo’s Appeal is an important campaign aiming to raise £200,000 to enhance children’s services at Milton Keynes Hospital. I was lucky to meet Leo the Lion at Queen Eleanor School in Galley Hill for a ‘Wear It Blue’ day. It was wonderful to see the children enthusiastically take part and help raise some money for this excellent project. The opportunity to give Leo a cuddle was a big incentive!! Small businesses will lead the way in 2014, says company whose tenants already employ 1000 people

M

Milton Keynes will boom in 2014, says the town’s largest serviced business premises provider, as the number of people employed in its units tops 1000 at the close of 2013.

Bucks Biz, with over 400,000 square feet of space and 150 tenants in Bletchley and Denbigh, says it is already planning more units to cope with the expected growth in demand and bringing forward plans to develop extra space at the huge Interchange House in Howard Way. “Our units currently provide work for around a thousand people and we have seen that figure rise steadily,” said Dominic Muscat, a director of the company that owns the business. “As Milton Keynes business booms, led by small businesses, we are already identifying potential new units that can be converted to provide the premises needed for small companies to thrive without hassle.”

Bucks Biz, with units all over Milton Keynes, is renowned for straight talking and dealing; not hiding costs and not charging for many of the little things that keep businesses ticking, but which can be annoying to the point of distraction. “We really believe that if our customers are happy, then they’ll be free to get on with their businesses, which in turn will expand,” added Dominic.
