Each month MIX will feature a ‘Pet of the month’ looking for a forever home. Last issue we featured ‘Lucky’ a little dog who had been terrorized by local children. We are happy to report he is now living in Italy with his forever family. So Some of our featured fluffy friends may well be on their way to a new home, however if you are looking to give a home to one of these lovely pets the Pet Hotel has many more cats, kittens, dogs and pups available for adoption. They also need volunteers and donations to help feed and pay for veteran bills. Every little bit helps. Meet Antr....This distinguished old boy is looking for some home comforts and companionship after spending the last few years in captivity. He has recently been rescued from a premise in Sharm which kept him of a pitiful diet of bread and water, in a cage in the hot sun. He was discovered like this some months ago but was not released. Everyday one of the Pet Hotel staff would visit him and feed him proper dried food and walk him so he could stretch his legs. Finally after someone in Authority put the pressure on he has been rescued. Antr is not very sociable with other male dogs but loves people and just wants cuddles and companionship and after years of cruelty he really deserves a forever home.
British Airways announce new flights to SSH
British Airways have announced a new route from London Gatwick to Sharm el Sheikh commencing September 2015. Holiday makers will be able to choose from 2 flights a week, increasing to 3 times a week during winter months. Colm Lacey, the airlines Head of Commercial at Gatwick states Sharm is only 5 hours aways and is a popular choice with families and a favourite with divers thanks to the crystal clear waters. Fares will start from ¬219 return inclusive of taxes and charges. Return hand baggage fares will start from 199 inclusive of taxes and charges.

SPOTLIGHT Youssef Ibrahim expressed his satisfaction and reassurance in the pro-activeness and readiness of the security in place to protect its residents and tourists. According to the Tourism Activation Authority (TAA), Sharm el Sheikh has seen a 400% tourism growth from UAE, Saudia Arabia and Jordan over the last 3 months, as well Egypts Interior Minister, as an increase from Eastern Mohamed Youssef Ibrahim, carried out an unexpected visit to Sharm el Sheikh during which he visited and inspected many of the City’s check points and security installments. Sharm Cycle
SharmOne the organisers of the monthly Flea Market Festival at Genena City, hosted and organised the SharmCycle eventon Friday 7th November which launched the community initiative to encourage a healthy lifestyle, promote Green Tourism, help protect the environment and reduce dependency on petroleum. The event was attended by many Sharmers of all ages who gathered at Ghibli Raceway to start the cycle parade through Naama Bay. All cyclers who registered for the event on Facebook were given a t-shirt with the initiative’s logo and some of the sponsor’s logos. The sponsors were; Sharmel Sheikh Sporting Club, South Sinai Police Department, South Sinai Governance,Ghilbli,Gafy Resort, ETS Travel, Cleo Park, Tornado Marine Fleet, Maritim Jolie 6
Ville and Genena City. The parade had a police escort through the town – the tour finished at GenenaCity. Al Masria Airlines offering Cheap Fares
Al Masria Airlines is an Egyptian private airline based in Egypt. They are now offering cheap

New Airline flies scheduled flights to Sharm Pegasus Airlines announce new routes from Istanbul. The airline continues to rapidly expand its flight network, expanding into the African continent for the first time, Pegasus Airlines will commence its scheduled flights to Egypt’s Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada as of October 23rd 2014. Flights to Hurghada from London Stansted via Istanbul launch on October 23rd, flying on Saturdays at 12:55 and returning from Hurghada to London Stansted via Istanbul on Sundays at 03:20. Flights from Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen to Sharm El Sheikh Airport will leave on Thursdays at 23:30, returning from Sharm El Sheikh to Istanbul on Fridays at 03:35. With the addition of Sharm El Skeikh and Hurghada to its flight network, Pegasus now flies to a total of 86 destinations in 36 countries; 56 beyond Turkey and 30 within Turkey.
Ahmed Gabr goes deeper
Egypt made it in to the Guinness Book of Records on the 18th September 2014 with an entry from the professional and dedicated deep sea SCUBA diver Ahmed Gabr. This highly experienced TDI Instructor and Trainer, dedicated several years to train physically and mentally to gain the ability to attempt to beat the South 8
African diver Nuno Gomes who was currently holding the world record for the deepest SCUBA dive at 318.25 meters also achieved on the shores of Dahab. Gabr took the title from Gomes for the deepest SCUBA dive in the early hours of the morning on the 19th September; he emerged from the crystal clear water of the Red Sea in Dahab after an astonishing 13 hours and 50
minutes dive and he literally blew Gomes record out of the water by plunging to the depth of 332.35 meters. Ahmed Gabr was not alone in the planning and organizing of this amazing memorable event. He had a highly skilled and very dedicated team of experts who gave Gabr all the training and support he needed to enable him to achieve this amazing record. This journey that Gabr and his team took, took not only a lot of courage and skillful planning, but time and dedication. This record was not only witnessed by Gabr’s team and the Guinness Book of Records on this early morning but they were also watched over and surrounded by a group of Oceanic Baby White Tip Sharks which were drawn to the attention of this event on this spectacular day. Fajita Thursdays at the Half Crown
The Half Crown pub in El Frossia Street next to Badawia Hotel and SeaSoul is known amongst the locals for their fabulous Friday night BBQ, but now the little pub has added Thursday Fajita nights to their repertoire. The new Chef has been delighting the locals and tourists with his tasty Steak and Kidney pies, Sunday roasts, full English Breakfasts and many more dishes, that disappointment was soon voiced with the kitchen being closed on Thursdays. The Chef needs a well-deserved break at least one or two days a week but also doesn’t want to disappoint the punters, with no tasty dishes to tuck into on Thursdays, so he has come up with the perfect solution – Fajitas. Thursday night in the Half Crown is now a sizzling experience as hot iron skillets are swiftly served trailing a mouth-watering scented smoke around the place. With the delicious variety of different cuisines to dine on, Sharm truly offers a diverse choice to satisfy every taste bud, ranging from steak houses to sushi parlours, pizza and pasta, and of course not forgetting local Egyptian cuisines. With this said, we decided to try a steak house and sea food restaurant in the famous Naama Bay, Mahoneys. Amongst the lively Shisha tents and souvenir shops, the restaurant is located next to the duty free shop entering from the main road passing The Lounge and Chille. Before entering the restaurant, we perused the restaurant’s menu which is displayed in a well lit wooden cabinet at the door. The menu offers a great selection of beverages, hot and cold starters, salads, sea food by the dish or per kilo, pizzas, pasta and mouthwatering steaks and other dishes cooked on the charcoal grill. For the sweet tooth among us there is also a mix of local and oriental delicious desserts. The restaurants decor resembles a cave, which combined with the subtle lighting using mosaic wall lamps and the simple yet elegant interior, makes you feel like you are away from the hustle and bustle of Naama Bay. As we entered the restaurant, the scent of freshly cooked food drifted by, which was followed 18
by a very warm and friendly welcome, before being given the choice of indoor or outdoor seating. As the nights here in Sharm are now comfortably warm and not humid, we decided to sit outside and enjoy the great views over Naama Bay. Our waiter made himself known to us and lit the rustic candle lantern on the table. With the soft mix of both Russian and English music playing in the background, the ambience was laid back, warm and very comfortable. It set an almost perfect picture. We were then handed a warm hand towel, which I thought added a nice touch of service. It was a touch that complimented the atmosphere and style of the restaurant perfectly. We were then presented with a menu, where the waiter made a few recommendations, which to be honest, all sounded amazing. We decided to start off with a fresh lemon and mint juice beverage which turned out to be a great choice. For starters, we chose a hot starter, Fried Calamari and a cold starter, Greek Meze. A basket of lovely oven baked soft hot garlic and poppy seed bread arrived on our table which tasted fabulous. Shortly after, our starters arrived; they were beautifully and cleverly presented. The Greek Meze consisted of a selection of oriental dips such as tahini, homous, baba ganoush, yoghurt, vine leaves and meat spring rolls. Partnered with the dish of fried calamari lightly dusted with basil was some rice and a lemon which cleverly held a candle. I have to say the Calamari was the best I have ever tasted. I would recommend the Greek Meze as a great condiment for the calamari which is more than enough for two people. After much d e l i b e r a ti o n due to the wide variety of dishes on offer, I opted for a dish called Sea Bass Rinaldo which consisted of sea bass sautĂŠed in herbs, butter, tomato, green pepper, paprika and topped with black olives, served with a choice of either mash, potatoes or fries. The bed of mash I opted for 20
topped it off perfectly for me. The dish with a Mediterranean twist really was as tasty as the famous footballer. The portion size is very generous and both quality and quantity were evident. Every great meal deserves to be finished off with a great dessert. However, after consuming three delicious dishes and as tempting as the dessert menu looked, there really was no room left for it. Instead, we decided to finish off with a coffee. Sipping on rich bodied coffee while taking in the scenery and views of Naama Bay was a great end to a fabulous meal. I
would highly recommend Mahoneys as a amazing and unforgettable d i n i n g experience for those who admire and appreciate the choice of steaks, sea food, traditional Egytian and famous Iitalian dishes all under one roof, with second to none service and taste bud teasing food. MIX November 2014

Presented by Chef Wagdy William Iskander – stella di mare resort Chef Wagdy William Iskander is the Executive Chef at the five star Stella di Mare Resort located on the southern headland of Naama Bay. He joined the resort in 2014 bringing with him a wealth of culinary knowledge, experience and most importantly a passion for the art of food. Chef Wagdy started his career in 1990 at the renowned Marriott Resort in Cairo. He then moved on to work on many of the Nile Cruise ships providing five star luxury menus for the passengers. After this he moved on to some of the top hotels along the Red Sea coastline working in the Hilton Taba, hotels in Hurgharda, Safaga and Marsa Alam plus a year working in Lebanon, before coming to Sharm where he has settled. He worked from 1994 to 1996 at Domina Coral Bay and later at Iberotel Lido, Kiroseiz and finally Stella di Mare. When asked what he likes to cook the most he replies “I love the many styles and tastes of International cuisines, which means I love to cook all types of food. My favorite is cooking with seafood but for today I have chosen a beef recipe. I guess the most important thing is to always cook with fresh produce and work with the best ingredients available at the time – I hope you enjoy my dish.” Ingredients

220 gr Beef Filet Tenderloin 10 ml Olive Oil 2 gr of fresh Rosemary (or a couple of sprigs) 7 gr salt 3 gr ground pepper 10 gr onion 25 gr green beans 12 gr zucchini 15 gr fresh mushroom 30 gr demi glace 10 gr fresh cream 5 gr pesto sauce
1. Cut beef filet to portion 220 gr and add the marinade ( olive oil, salt & pepper, rosemary) and keep it at fridge 2. Clean , wash and cut the vegetables ( green beans & zucchini ) 3. Sauté the vegetables in olive oil, add salt and pepper to taste. 4. Heat the grill and cook the filet to taste (medium-rare, medium or well-done) 5. To do the mushroom sauce ( heat sauce pan, sauté onion and add the cu mushrooms stirring all the time until nearly cooked then add the demi glaze. 6. Leave the sauce pan on the heat until completely cooked then add the fresh cream 7. Prepare the serving platter; put the green beans and zucchini 8. Add the beef filet tenderloin when be cooked 9. Add the sauce and serve warm

The nightlife scene throughout Egypt has vastly expanded its appeal to multi-national clubbers, attracting travelers from all over the world to come and sample what Sharm has to offer. Renowned as the resort for indulgence, 5 star service and luxury, Sharm’s number one voted hotel, the Four Seasons, is now the host to a new resident DJ night ‘Decks on the Beach’ presented at the trendy chic bar/lounge called ‘Sails’. Wednesday weekly event came from one of Sharm’s top DJs – Ouzo. Many of you know that Ouzo holds the long-term residency of Pacha Sharm. He has also played in Dubai and Europe and in some of Cairo’s top clubs like the Cairo Jazz club. Ouzo and the Four Season management came up with the concept; creating a trendy lounge chill out night in one of Sharm’s best locations with a ‘Café del Mar’ feel, adding a touch of sophisticated nightlife for hotel guests and Sharmer residents to enjoy.

NIGHT LIFE This cool collaboration of talents of top tunes and five star fusion food and beverage is located overlooking the picturesque Red Sea, where vacationers, residents and hotel guests can now enjoy entertainment, drinks under the stars whilst admiring the coral reef and clear waters. Mix Magazine likes to keep on the ball with the latest on-trend places to keep residents and tourists alike up to date with the scene. So we were delighted to attend the soft opening of this hot new bar/ lounge. As we all know it is of paramount importance to make a lasting impression on an opening night, as second chances are rarely given. The Four Seasons didn’t need to worry, as right from the beginning everything was perfect. Upon entering the hotel lobby, we were immediately impressed with the tastefully decorated interior and polished marble floors. It oozed exquisite style, which matched the service as there was ample staff on hand to help and point us in the right direction of the venue.

We were escorted by the in-house golf buggy to ‘Decks on the beach’ where we were met by breath taking views of the Red Sea and the sounds of funky feel vibes creating a sophisticated open-air club atmosphere. The chilled out and happy and ambiance certainly influenced the mood. The layout and design of the bar/lounge offered views nothing short of amazing. The décor is fusion modern offering plush comfortable seatingfor those who want to kick back and relax; a variety of high and low tables allowing you to chill out in comfort and a large decking area with space to mingle with friends while sipping on a glass of Champagne or quenching your thirst with classic cocktails served by the Mixologist. I personally recommend the Cosmopolitans; they tantalized the taste buds and hit the right spot. The service from the bar staff and waiters was second to none; they were attentive and very polite; cordially topping up my glass so that it was never went empty. I lost count of how many times I was politely asked what I would like to drink. They really do go that extra mile to make you feel special. It was consistent five star service with a smile all night.
As the night went on, the drinks were flowing and the DJ Ouzo’s (Pacha sharm el sheikh resident DJ) rhythmic house beats were playing, the elegant and classy atmosphere became upbeat and classy met cool and vibrant. The floor space filled up with people dancing and laughing, while the mood lighting on the tables dimmed creating a warm cozy and exotic mood. Decks on the Beach is well worth a visit if you want to be away from all the hustle and bustle, be surrounded by class whilst catching up with friends, listen to some beats, enjoy the breath taking views or even for pre-party drinks. Sharm’s SISTINE Chapel The Heavenly Cathedral in Hay el Noor

hen the Coptic Church first applied W for permission to build The Heavenly Cathedral, Hay el Nour was a rubbish strewn, mostly derelict piece of desert, with just a few buildings on it. Archbishop Apollo didn’t think it was a suitable site, but the late pope, Abba Shenouda III convinced him on his third consultation that it was the right place to build. The story goes, that when Abba Shenouda came to consecrate the laying of the first stone, in an area sheltered by nothing more than a flimsy marquee, a small whirlwind blew up outside, removing all the rubbish from the area.

The church is a popular tourist attraction. It’s easy to see why, if you look at the magnificently decorated interior. It was hand painted by two Egyptian artists with lovingly rendered scenes from the scriptures. Passing the two large sculptures of the Lion of Judah, you come in to the church by the main west entrance at the rear. Coptic churches (the word “Coptic” is Greek for Egyptian) always face east, the direction from which the second coming is anticipated, much as mosques face towards Mecca. Looking back at the west wall, from left to right, are scenes depicting Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, 39

the building of Noah’s Ark and the testing of Abraham by God to sacrifice his son. The central area, all the way to the front, shows elements from the book of revelations, such as the riders of the apocalypse. The eastern end is decorated to the left (if you’re facing east) with the story of Moses and to the right with the story of David. In case this all sounds too religious, remember how popular the Cistene chapel is. This really is Sharm’s equivalent, and none too shabby at that. Currently run by Masoud Ahmed, they produce the eponymous underwater flashlight, which operates at up to 120 m, with a 65 watt, 3 LED system. It’s been specially designed to be easy to turn on and off underwater and also easy to replace the batteries. These are available to buy or rent. Only 2 or 3 shops can fix underwater flashlights, and naturally, this is one of them. Sebalight repair pretty much anything diving related, except suits and tanks, which they leave to other specialists. They’re the only shop in Sharm to fix underwater camera housings, as well as the digital or video cameras which they protect. Diving computers can be fully serviced, as well as the usual battery replacement, which is done for all makes, even the more complicated UWATEC Aladdin tech-diving computer, which otherwise has to be sent back to the manufacturer in Europe.
