MIT Sloan School of Management

YOUR GENEROSITY KICK STARTS STUDENT SUCCESS. MIT Sloan is a hub for invention and opportunity where students develop the tools—and the mindset, skillset, and spirit—that will help them excel. Your support of student fellowships through the MIT Sloan Annual Fund ensures that the school attracts the most talented students, and that those students choose to join our community. Every day, our students live out the school’s mission: learning to be the principled, innovative leaders the future needs. They will go on to advance management practice; they will start businesses that work for good and organizations that change the world; they will open employment to many; and they will be the next generation of faculty who in turn teach new students how to be effective, thoughtful, empathetic leaders. Your generosity at this inflection point in students’ education and leadership journeys sets them on the path to these and countless other successes. Thank you for your continued support of the MIT Sloan Annual Fund and for ensuring that the school’s remarkable students can use their time at the school to focus on cultivating the skills upon which they will rely throughout their careers.

Moises Baly Rodriguez MBA ’22 Cuba and Mallorca, Spain I came to MIT Sloan because its culture of solving problems that matter with down-to-earth and brilliant people resonated deeply with my engineering training and career aspirations. Thank you so much for supporting my time here! Your generosity has made the impossible a reality. Without it, my family and I couldn’t have afforded for me to pursue this incredible experience at MIT Sloan. I hope that someday, I will have the chance to follow your lead and provide others with the same opportunity.

Elisa Becker-Foss MFIN ’23 Hamburg, Germany Receiving this fellowship has meant a lot to me. More than financial aid, the fellowship gave me trust in myself that I belong here and that MIT Sloan wants me in their community. Your support showed me that I can fully concentrate on my studies as well as my personal development. It also made me more grateful for everything I have received so far. For the future, I hope to give something back because I want to contribute to a society where smart and dedicated people have more equal opportunities to get a world-class education at places such as MIT Sloan.

Nestor Diaz-Ordaz MBA ’22 Clarence, New York Thank you! I feel incredibly lucky to be admitted to MIT Sloan, and the addition of a fellowship was honestly a bit shocking. It has dramatically reduced my financial stress and has allowed me to explore opportunities here at MIT Sloan based more on my interests instead of just financial security. Even in the moment, I can tell you that your gift is much more to me than a finite sum of money. I am thankful for your generosity and hope to be able to pay it forward to a future Sloanie.

Scott Hungerford LGO ’23 Orange County, California Although MIT is widely recognized for its high accolades in technology and innovation, what really drew me to the LGO program was the sense of community and acceptance. LGO students come from amazingly diverse backgrounds, and they are immensely humble about their accomplishments. The fellowship I received allowed me to participate in the advancement of underrepresented minorities in higher education. Pursuing my career aspirations was not a possibility without the financial support of generous donors like you. I am extremely thankful for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Lina Parra Cartagena EMBA ’23 Cali, Colombia I chose to come to MIT Sloan because it is known worldwide for its approach to management. In fact, at MIT, management is a science and is treated in that sense: MIT Sloan is more than a business school, a management school. So far during my time at the school, I have experienced the advantages of treating management as a science, as it requires the effort to learn about the basics (economics, macroeconomics, statistics, or accounting, among others) and the ability to apply this knowledge at work, proving then that management involves empirical context. I am an international EMBA student currently living in Barcelona, and even though I’m not able to attend many in-person events, the experience at MIT Sloan has still been so transformational. The most transformational class was Organizational Processes. In fact, after analyzing the three lenses framework—strategic, political, and cultural— I changed my perspective about how to adapt and fit an organization better in order to be successful in it. It has transformed me to the point that it gave me the confidence to apply for a new job, which I got!

Because of your generosity, I was able to reduce the financial weight that comes with getting an EMBA at MIT Sloan. Thanks to donors like you, I am able to accomplish my EMBA and one day become the CFO I want to be. So far, the EMBA has already positively impacted my career by allowing me to change companies and upgrade jobs. Thank you again for investing in women like me who are financial pillars for our families, especially in emerging countries.

Roderic Figueroa MBA ’23 Miami, Florida I wanted to attend an MBA program with a high entrepreneurial drive and a tight-knit community, and that is exactly what MIT Sloan has turned out to be. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know other Sloanies through my involvement in the MIT FinTech Conference and other careeroriented clubs. I want to thank you so much for your generosity in helping me achieve the next level of my career. I am the first person in my family to pursue higher education and the first to be educated in the U.S. Your support is making a massive impact on my life, and for that, I will be forever grateful.

Nicole Jamgotchian MBA ’23 Los Angeles, California Thank you so much for your generosity in supporting my MIT Sloan experience. Thanks to incredible donors like you, I am able to build amazing connections, learn from world-class faculty, and officially call myself a Sloanie. I am so excited for the growth I know I will have both professionally and personally over the next two years. I couldn’t have dreamt of a better, more enriching place to pursue my MBA, and I thank you for being a huge part of this journey with me. I feel so lucky.

MIT Sloan School of Management

Janice Lam MBA ’23 Hong Kong, Hong Kong This past January, I landed two excellent internships. I am currently debating whether to stay focused on my startup over the summer. Being at MIT Sloan makes me feel like the options are truly limitless. I’m incredibly grateful for your support in my MIT Sloan journey, which has allowed me to fully engage in venture opportunities here at MIT without any distractions. I hope to make you proud by contributing to the entrepreneurial ecosystem and by developing into a principled, innovative leader who improves the world. Thank you for supporting me in fulfilling my lifelong dream—I will work every day to pay this generosity forward.

Justin Mueller MBA ’23 Missoula, Montana Academics were one of the most important factors in choosing MIT Sloan, and I do not think I could have done better. I have also immensely enjoyed how passionate everyone is at MIT Sloan—their positive attitudes are contagious. I want to say thank you so much for supporting my fellowship. As I transitioned from the Navy, paying for school was one of my biggest concerns, and the fellowship really eased a lot of that. Thanks to you, I am able to use my time more effectively and take advantage of all of the amazing things there are to do here at MIT Sloan. Annual Fund Fellowship Report 2021–2022

MIT Sloan School of Management

Dubem Mbeledogu MBA ’22 Evansville, Indiana I chose MIT Sloan because of my technical interests. I studied chemical engineering during undergrad and worked as a process design engineer for three years before starting school at MIT Sloan. I enjoy technical work and never want to stray too far from it. As an engineer, is there really any better place than MIT? While at MIT Sloan, I’ve enjoyed learning about how advanced analytics are being used in business from operations all the way to marketing and how I can be a part of it. This summer, I got the chance to apply this knowledge and become more deeply connected to the analytics community through my internship at Bain & Company in San Francisco. I am an avid sports fan, and one of the opportunities I’ve been most excited about is planning the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference. I am the Research Papers Competition Lead for this year’s conference, and, once again, I get to apply analytics myself and have great conversations with those shaping major sports.

Thank you so much for supporting my fellowship. I believe the point of business school is to learn skills and get the credentials required to chase your dream, whatever that may be. But the reality is that school is expensive, and it can be a big financial burden, especially for students who come from immigrant families like me. Without the fellowship, I would have to limit my post-business school employment options to the highest paying jobs just to cover school loans. Your generosity alleviates so much of this financial constraint and gives me the freedom to explore and indulge in my ambitions, both at MIT Sloan and in my career. Thank you!

Eduardo Rosario MBA ’23 Lawrence, Massachusetts, and the Dominican Republic Academically, MIT Sloan’s one-semester core and the greater MIT real estate ecosystem made it the perfect MBA program for me. So far, my favorite class has been Organizational Processes. I left the class with helpful frameworks and mental models on how to approach organizations that have made me a more effective leader. Thank you for supporting my fellowship at MIT Sloan. As a first-generation college graduate, I would not have been able to attend a top MBA program without donors like you. I am grateful for this experience and the impact it will have on my career.

Brandon Rosenblum MBA ’22 New York, New York I chose to attend MIT Sloan to make a more direct impact on the tech community. The opportunity to network with and receive feedback from entrepreneurs, VC partners, and industry-expert faculty provides the second-hand experience necessary throughout the startup journey I aim to pursue. Thank you for making this all possible for myself and others who received fellowships. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I will gratefully make the most of. I am so excited for the rest of my time at MIT Sloan and hope to be in the position to help other students down the line. 12

MIT Sloan School of Management

Molly Wartenberg MBA ’23 Washington, D.C. One of the reasons I came to MIT Sloan was for the people. I formed so many easy, authentic connections with the Sloanies and fellow admits that I spoke with. Even before getting to campus, I felt like this was a community that I could be a part of. Thank you so much for your support and for enabling me to attend MIT Sloan! As someone coming from the nonprofit sector, financing my MBA was a big concern for me. Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, I am able to pursue my passions and focus on my personal and professional development at MIT Sloan.

Ruoyu Zhang MFIN ’23 Singapore and the U.K. I would love to express my absolute gratitude to the generous donors for granting me this fellowship. Not only is it an encouragement for me to keep working harder, but it also introduced me to this wonderful community of fellows to continue exploring the world and making positive impacts. I am a strong believer in social altruism and this award has solidified my conviction in paying the kindness forward in the future using the knowledge as well as resources that I accumulated during my time at MIT.
