National Archive project,

The design focused on the concept of light and dark. An archive and repository has very specific needs in light and storage, the design was seperated into two main zones, a light and a dark for the working spaces and the storage and repository spaces. The main entrance was informed by the pataka, “to lift the treasure of a nation above the ground with reverence” The atrium focused on creating a void that allowed visitors to think and wonder about the history of new zealand and the future storys it could one day tell

Section through the dark block of the Archive, with the central atrium as the champion of the design Left to right: auditorium render of north block, north centur overlooking the Wellington harbour, the central spine joining the offices to the reopsitory, the light to dark.

The design had a central spine that ran through the center of the building, connecting the light and dark spaces, acting as an emobodiement of a timeline that ran east to west, tracking the movement of the sun and the passing of time.

Third Year Capstone Museum

The museum of New Zealand Aoetearoa was informed by again the concept of time. The bases for form finding was dervied from the rings of a tree, and how history could be interpreted as the rings of a tree storing and preserving this information. The monolithic forms were created to mimic the valleys and hills of our country, with walkable roofs and an internal atrium centering new zealands history around the nature it has been birthed from

The internal atrium was intended to demonstrate timber and the beauty of the natural world new zeland has. The atrium acts as the central circulation space spiraling up toward each exhibition spaces forming a timeline of event and history that is preserved in Te Papa Tongerewa

Third Year

Computational Design

Computational Design [archi311]

This paper focused on the computational generation of form through site parameters. Using software like maya and houdini, simulations were formulated around site parameters like wind and topography generating iterations of form for a dystopian architecture.

The final design focused on the program of a metearological dissemination hub that collected data to repopulate the earths climate.

Second Year Design

Materiality render showing the central staircase under the water

The Library design focused on the form giving parameters of site and interpretation of site mapping. The project went through three major iterations, the first looking at site and form, the second looking at light and form and the third looking at materiality and form. The final project was a rich and complex development of ideas that refined down into the embodiement of the surrounding harbour of shelly bay, The play between above and below the ocean and the orientation of the building inrelation to the harbour, the city grid and the orientation in relation to the sun and natural environment

A light and bright above water area was programmed to acompany tasks that required more daylight, and facilitated a journey underneath the water, a unique reading experience

The construction of a 30m2 holiday home was the goal of this paper, To generate an understanding of NZS3604 and demonstrate an ability to produce working drawings.

The baches materaility focused on timber slats to screen off areas and create interesting shading on the interior space.
