Library Success Story: Elizabeth Allan

Charlevoix Public Library 220 W. Clinton Street Charlevoix MI 49720 charlevoixlibrary.org 231-547-2651

When Elizabeth Allan talks about public libraries, her joy and reverence is apparent. Childhood visits to the Jordan Valley District Library in East Jordan with her Grandmother are cherished memories. The books she brought home impacted her, but more importantly, these visits fostered a deep connection with her Grandmother. This less quantifiable but critical power of libraries to link people and their diverse ideas together continues to impact Elizabeth decades after moving to Charlevoix following college. Notably, as she was considering retirement, Elizabeth attended an “Introduction to Pickleball” clinic organized by the library in hopes of learning more about a potential new pastime. Not only did this clinic spark a passion for the sport, but more importantly, as she has become a regular fixture on the court, she has connected with a multitude of wonderful people and ideas. “The clinic had a domino effect” said Elizabeth strengthening her view of the Charlevoix Public Library as a thread that runs through the community connecting so many people and organizations.
