GOAT SHOW

In her final 4-H fair, Rensselaer’s Anna Hannon — who also served as fair queen during the week — claimed her third straight Supreme Showmanship title, beating two other competitors on the fair’s next-to-last day. A state and national champion in a variety of events, Hannon competed in the Supreme Showmanship event five times at the fair. She is joined here by members of the queen court, including Sydney Van Meter, Kristy Kohlhagen and Marlene McGing. SUPREME SHOWMAN Hannon, a 2021 graduate of Rensselaer Central High School, bested two other competitors for the Supreme title, including Steven Carrera of the Dairy Barn and Lauren Moore of the Goat Barn. Carrera and Moore were classmates of Hannon at RCHS. The daughter of Curt and Leslie, Hannon won senior showman at the Beef, Sheep and Swine barns. It was her first time winning three of the five livestock barns. The three competitors gathered at the Show Arena on July 30 to work with five species — dairy cows, sheep, goats, beef and swine — under the watchful eye of judge Marissa Streitmatter. Competitors got their livestock in position while Streitmatter lobbed questions at them. “They weren’t necessarily questions related to the industry,” Hannon said. “They were more related to showmanship and what the animal was and how to present it. I really enjoyed those because I felt very confident in my answers.” The Hannon family has claimed the Supreme Showmanship title five straight years, including three by Anna and two by brother Tyler. FAIR QUEEN Anna becomes the first fair queen in the household and will represent the county at the Indiana State Fair Queen contest in Indianapolis this coming winter. It was a memorable finish to a magical week for Hannon, who added after the showmanship contest, “I’m not ready for it to be over.” Hannon is currently attending Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, where she competes on the school’s livestock juding team. Once she completes her studies at the twoyear school, she will look to attend a four-year school to complete her degree in an agricultural field.

Serving as Jasper County Fair Queen this year gave Anna Hannon plenty of chances at making memories (see shirt). Besides presenting awards and ribbons to countless 4-Hers, Hannon got a chance to enjoy the grandstand events, including the Donkey Races. She also participated in the Battle of the Barns against her dad, Curt, while racking up several awards of her own.
