BACK TO SCHOOL WITH THE MISSOULA FAMILY YMCA Dear Friend, August can be a bittersweet time. We say goodbye to gorgeous Montana summers, day camp, and lazy floats along the Clark Fork while welcoming crisp autumn days, the start of school, and Sunday soccer games. Here at the Missoula Y, we’re passionate about healthy living, which is why we offer year-round programs that are healthy, affordable, and fun for the whole family. No matter what season it is—summer, fall, winter, or spring—our doors are always open. The Missoula Y is kicking off autumn in a big way this year! Join us for our Back-to-School Bash on September 7 as we celebrate the start of school with food trucks, games, and live music by the Salamanders (page 5). From there, children will start the semester off strong in our licensed after school program (page 8) while staying active with our Fall Youth Soccer League (page 12). The Missoula Y will also welcome new students to our Learning Center and Development Center classrooms (page 6), which include fun activities like Rookie Soccer and swim lessons. And the best part? No matter the time of year, financial assistance is available for all Y programs and services, allowing everyone in our community access to these healthy and vital opportunities. Learn more about all that the Y has to offer at ymcamissoula.org, or visit us during the Back-to-School Bash on September 7! I look forward to seeing you there. Sincerely, Heather Foster, CEO

Y campers try their hand at making Slime

The Missoula Y’s Slime Recipe This homemade slime recipe is a favorite among our campers! Recipe makes 4 individual bags of Slime. Adult supervision is recommended. Slime is not edible.

INGREDIENTS 1 Tbs 1 C 1 C

Borax Hot water Elmer’s glue

4 4

Plastic cups Sealable plastic bags Food coloring

1. In a small bowl, have an adult mix 1 Tbs of Borax with 1 C of hot water to create the activator solution. Tip: Put the solution in a squeeze bottle to more easily distribute. 2. Pour 1/4 C of Elmer’s glue into each plastic cup. Add a few drops of your desired food colors to each cup of glue. Mix well with a spoon. 3. Have an adult add the activator solution to the glue, one tablespoon at a time, while kids mix. 4. Start kneading and working the goo until it has a smooth consistency throughout. When you can touch the slime without it sticking to your fingers, take it out of the cup and mix with your hands. 5. Put the finished Slime in plastic bags to help it last.
