As His Master Luke 6:40-49 “…As his master…”

In what way are we to be like Christ?

John 8:29 “I do always those things that please Him.”

1 Corinthians 10:31 “…whatsoever ye do… do all to the glory of God.”

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Ye are not your own… Glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are Gods.” As Christ dedicated His whole life to pleasing God and desiring to do what pleased Him, so we must also give our lives to Him to do with as He pleases.

Many will describe their experience of salvation by saying, “I gave my life to God.” This is an accurate statement, but so few actually live it out.

We must understand that we were redeemed, bought back from the devil, the enemy of our soul who had right to our lives while we were in the bondage of sin.

We were set free by the precious blood of Christ, by His sacrifice, He paid the price that we might have liberty.

Now as the word enjoins let us not use that liberty as an occasion to the flesh (to live after the wants and desires of our own bodies) but by love let us serve one another (in much prayer and sacrifice of ourselves let us do all we can for one another) (ref. Galatians 5:13).

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Ye are not your own.”

You are no longer yours to do with as you please. “For ye are bought with a price.” Copyright 2013 CCF Writers

As His Master You have been purchased by the precious blood of Christ.

Isaiah 53:5 “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.”

He paid it all, the full price, therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

You belong to God, give yourself to Him. Don’t allow your flesh, this world, or the devil himself to cause you to do anything contrary to what God would have you to do.

Don’t allow anything to provoke you to do anything that would bring shame or reproach upon the cause of Christ.

1 Corinthians 10:31 “Whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”

Make sure you’re glorifying God. Make sure God is pleased with it. Not only your actions, but don’t allow it to provoke your spirit.

Sometimes we might try to force our body to do the right thing, but our spirit, our inner being is not in agreement with the action. In our heart we really don’t want to do the right thing but something else.

Jesus went through right. He didn’t have a bad attitude toward Pilate or those that spit on Him, and slapped Him, and pulled off the hair of His beard.

As His Master He prayed earnestly for those that drove the nails in His hands. He interceded on behalf of those that mocked Him as He groaned and suffered on the tree.

He didn’t just do all this for show, He did it for a reason. He did it to show you how to react when your co-worker laughs at you as the boss is treating you unjustly.

He did it so that you can be sweet when your neighbor lets all the air out of your tires and then scratches their head like he doesn’t know who could possibly have done it.

He did it so you could forgive Uncle Joe and Aunt Suzie for things that happened to you in childhood.

He did it so you’d have no prejudice or hate in your heart because of things that happened in the past, present, or future.

He gave his back to the smiters. Why? So He could take away every excuse for hatred and retaliation.

So He could make the way strait and narrow. Allowing no room for sin to enter in. Christ life left no room for sin to enter in.

1 Peter 2:21-25 “Who did no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth…”

If we are to be as our master, we cannot sin. We must walk as He walked.

If He is the way, we must follow Him to get to God. If He is the truth, anything less than what He taught or exemplified is a lie. If He is the life, we must pattern our life after His if ours is to be acceptable unto God.

Some have said it is impossible to live like Christ; “I can’t live like that!” “I can’t do that.” Copyright 2013 CCF Writers

As His Master Of course you can’t. That’s the point of it all. You can’t do it. That’s what separates human effort from Bible salvation.

You in your flesh cannot do it. Most people in their own strength can’t even keep their New Year’s resolutions, or stick to their diet plan, or stop certain habits that they wished they didn’t have.

Yet even the best of people, the most morally disciplined individuals cannot live as Christ lived in their own strength.

Are we then doomed because we realize that we must live this life as God would have us to live it, but we cannot do it of ourselves?

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have ever lasting life.”

Before Christ came no one could live a life truly pleasing to God because they had no true pattern to model their life after.

Before Christ taught love there was an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.

Before Christ suffered without revenge there was retaliation.

Before Christ died there was no atonement for sin.

Before Christ was pierced there was nothing to cleanse us from sin. Copyright 2013 CCF Writers

As His Master Before Christ rose again there was no victory.

Therefore God in His love and care and concern for man sent a way. Sent the truth, sent the life that we might know what was right, but He also sent deliverance from the power and penalty of sin and power to live a life above sin on a consistent basis.

John 1:12 “Them gave He power.”

Luke 10:17-19 “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

2 Peter 1:10 “…give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall.”

This is why Jesus told Nicodemus, “Ye must be born again.”

This power is only available to the Sons of God. In order to be a Son of God you must be born of Him. Made alive or quickened by God Himself. This new birth is Spiritual since we realize we are already alive physically.

Now if we’re born of God, we see that we do not commit sin. Why? “Because His seed remaineth in Him: and He cannot sin, because He is born of God” (1 John 3:9).

David said, “Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee” (Psalms 119:11).

Jesus said, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.”

As His Master What’s in your heart will come out. If God’s word is in your heart, that’s what will come out of you. Not in your mind by memorization, but by God enlightening you, by Jesus being in you, living in you, working through you. The living Word of God.”

John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

John 1:14 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us…”

Jesus is the living word. He not only spoke the word, but He personified it. He embodied it. The only way we can live out the word as He did is to have Him living in us.

Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.”

We can be as our master (Christ) only when we give our lives to Him and allow Him to have His way in us.
