A LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT 2021 has been a remarkable year as Mission ONE celebrates our 30th year as a ministry! As we reflect, we realize two things are present throughout our existence.

First, each year brings unique challenges and successes, and second, God has been faithful through them all.

The coronavirus pandemic has remained a significant issue in the communities of our partners even today. A major economic depression has wreaked havoc in many of the nations where our partners live. But once again, God has shown himself faithful.

We saw a profound impact in the ways our partners have served those who are suffering. We took the next step in many long-term projects’ maturity, securing greater resiliency for those communities. We collaborated to address issues of violence, poverty, and death with the good news of Jesus Christ. Hundreds more were transformed by his life, death, and resurrection.

For these and countless other blessings, we are thankful.

We are thankful for you and your generosity.

Without you, there is no Mission ONE. God showed up for people who were suffering, people who were looking for hope through YOU. BEIRUT RELIEF The devastation that has ripped through Lebanon over the course of recent years is hard to encapsulate in a single story. It’s multi-faceted and far-reaching. From the influx of Syrian refugees to the explosion in Beirut’s largest port, to Covid-19—which has not only forced a medical crisis, but also an economic one—this region has been pummeled. Death, destruction, homelessness, starvation, and structural ruin have battered the Lebanese people and those who went there seeking refuge.

Physical and Spiritual Work After the Explosion

The August 2020 explosion in Beirut left mass destruction and an immense amount of work to be done. Mission ONE's partners in Beirut has been helping in every possible way.

They have completed work on 80 homes. Their work included fixing doors, aluminum frames, and walls. They replaced appliances and 40 beds with mattresses.

Time and time again we see that the spiritual work needed in the world is directly tied to the selfless, physical labors of our partners. The opportunity to pray, introduce the Bible, and share the gospel comes while the partners are dirtying their hands alongside the people whom they are serving.

The Lord is using Mission ONE partners in Lebanon to open eyes to the hope of Jesus because of the way they are meeting needs. Sewn seeds are producing fruit. Many people come to the Lord because of the intentionality and follow-up that the team is doing. In Lebanon, the work that our partners are showing up for each and every day is reflecting itself in the hearts of all those they assist.

THE PROJECT THAT BRINGS HOME THE BACON Kijabe Town is a small community about 30 miles outside of Nairobi, Kenya. It only has two roads in and out and a population of about 9,000 people. The economic opportunities are minimal as many people rely on agriculture to support their families, but unpredictable weather patterns often leave farmers dealing with extreme flooding or devastating droughts.

There are limited options for education so many young people leave in search of new opportunities. They don’t often return to share their resources and knowledge due to a lack of jobs, so the community is left in a cycle of poverty.

Pigs are Changing Everything

Mission ONE has been walking alongside our partners in Kenya to help create opportunities through a profitable pig farm business. Using local knowledge and resources, the community in Kijabe Town is working together to discover their own solutions.

They’re ending generational cycles of poverty through fair and dignified work. They’re getting a first-hand look at the hope that comes from building a sustainable income with the resources, skills, and opportunities in their own backyard.

The pig project is currently employing three people, but more than that, the project is showing the community that they are made in the image of God. They’re giving families a tangible example of love and care.

More than 2,600 episodes of Mission ONE's podcast, "Doing Theology. Thinking Mission." have been downloaded since our launch in August.

Mission ONE partners in India set up trauma counseling for Covid-19 relief which spurred on a constant 24 hour prayer line and the blossoming of hundreds of house churches.

After years of living as refugees in Lebanon, three families have been resettled back in their home communities in Syria this year.

An entire community has raised out of poverty in Nepal through the creation of a goat based economy. The Cave People of Nepal are now thriving and have become a case study to work with more communities.

We’ve added Brenda DeVillez and Olivia Mulerwa to the team! Brenda has years of Three missional businesses became profitable this year. A pig project and a car rental business called MURE Cars in Kenya, and an agricultural farm created in response to stranded migrant workers in India—are all turning a profit and using their resources to reinvest in their community and inspire more local businesses.

SYRIAN REPATRIATION Since 2011, 5.6 million refugees have fled Syria in the wake of the most brutal, destructive civil war. Dispersed throughout the entire neighboring region, Syrians have faced poverty, homelessness, and a deep struggle as they attempt to survive in areas that are outside their country of origin.

Repatriation and Self-Reliance Project

Mission ONE partners in the Middle East are assisting refugees in every area of need. This holistic plan is both practical and sustainable. Refugees begin rebuilding their homes while launching incomegenerating projects. They are also being supported through prayer—much needed after living through trauma and hardship.

In the last two years, our partners have rebuilt a total of eleven houses in Homs, Syria and repatriated families into each of them.

On our most recent visit to the Hamidyah and Wadi El Sayehh in Homs, we discovered that many families are on the rebound and eager to return to their long-loved neighborhoods and homes, but they are fearful of losing their homes permanently as a result of the Muslim invasion; many Islamists are purchasing the destroyed homes at a minimal price. If the families do not return to their homes, the long-standing Christian cultures and their heritage would be irreparably lost.

We must remember the power of hospitality and the comfort of creating safe and joyful spaces with our families. Moreover, it’s imperative that we hold close to the idea that God’s love is for all. We don’t share His message and wisdom by sending our loved ones to a place. We share it by bringing them into our sphere, by holding that love in our home and allowing any who come in to experience it alongside us.

Iman’s Story

Mission ONE partners in the Middle East are working alongside many families who are on the repatriation journey. One of those families is Iman's. Iman, her husband, and their three children have been working with the team to re-enter their home country. They are seeking to reunite with her husband’s family and restore a sense of normalcy by reconnecting to their culture, their language, and their family. Iman is a leader of her local church and has been described as a beacon of hope for others in similar positions. She has opened her home to Bible studies and will continue her discipleship as she returns home.

The truth is, there is no place like home when it comes to opportunities for sharing God’s word and establishing communities that are more like the Kingdom of God. When we open our arms in hospitable joy, share food at our own table, and partake in merriment, glory is restored to even the darkest of places.

As Iman, her family, and our partners in the Middle East prayed through difficulties like problems with paperwork and financial strife, they kept their focus on the opportunities that lay ahead: The chance for Iman to expand her worship and embrace God’s love back home.
