During the 40’s, the Rubino family owned a typical local bakery in the very heart of the city of Naples in the bustling area called Rione Sanità, where world famous actor Totò was born and Edoardo de Filippo set his most popular Comedies.

Here, the 3 young brothers Elio, Francesco and Gerardo rode the wave of the popularity of coffee and, giving relevance to their customers opinions, they created new tastes and developed a specialized roasting expertise that was soon recognized throughout the local area.

In 1963, the Rubino brothers poured their passion into the coffee industry, setting up a roastery.

In a few years’ time, their coffee became the most loved in Naples: that was just the first chapter of a successful story that continues today.

In fact, Naples is the Italian city well known for local coffee habits Neapolitans are truly proud of.

Here, coffee preparations and drinking rituals are so entrenched into deep-rooted local traditions that the culture of Neapoletan s national inventory of the agrifood Italian heritage (INPAI) and has even caught the attention

The so-called «Cuccuma» is living testimony of local habits. This was the most used coffee pot during the XIX century in a city that has conceived coffee as a beverage to be enjoyed in several occasions during the day, for sharing moments either in funny circumstances or in hard times.

It has been renamed «Napoletana» due to its popular use and it was celebrated in famous plays and movies.

With its theatrical and slow preparation, it encapsules still today these social values of friendship, hospitality and passion for coffee and catches the attention of coffee lovers and advanced experts who are amazed by this unique distinguished coffee experience.

Kimbo still celebrates the Cuccuma Napoletana with a dedicated line.

CICCIO MEROLLA, presentation at San Pietro a Majella Music Conservatory, Naples

On October 1st, 2023 (the European International Coffee day) Kimbo has started the first collaboration to celebrate the bond with music launching in Italy a new song resulting from the cooperation with the popular percussionist Ciccio Merolla.

Napoli is the territory Kimbo and Merolla are linked to want and to support, so the song has been launched along with the initiative to start a shared scholarship fund at one of the most historic conservatory of music in Naples, San Pietro a Majella.

The song, called O'Kafé (Coffee in Neapolitan dialect), reproduces the famous jingle Kimbo became nationally famous with in Italy during the 90’s, evoking the past songs every Italian can immediately recognize.

This initiative has been replicated with other artists, giving birth to multiple expressions which are linked by the Kimbo jingle.

The goal of Kimbo Training Centre is to provide expert knowledge along with the brand core values.

A real café environment is reproduced to help trainees immerse in a real professional barista experience.

A comprehensive training programme is organised according to the attendees’ specific skills and business roles and purposes.

Multiple courses are held at the Kimbo Coffee Academy in Wembley, London.

Hands-on lessons and bespoke classes where learners can also achieve the internationally recognised City&Guilts qualification.
