Come, play and learn with us!

This activity book will help you discover what makes Munich International School so special, and you‘ll meet some very important people who work here and learn here. Our goal is to help you learn about our school and our campus so you will grow to love it and care about it. We want you to care about our environment and the people and animals that call it home in the hopes that you will help protect it and preserve it for future generations of learners.
Maybe this isn‘t the first place you‘ve lived, or the second, or even your third, but we want you to feel like MIS is your home now. We want you to love it here. We want to be your family and your home away from home. After completing the challenges in this activity book, you will get to know us and we will get to know you, too!
Please share your work with your family, your new teachers, and your new friends at MIS.

Fun fact: We call this building the Schloss. That means ‘castle‘ in German. That‘s because it really was a castle before it became our first schoolhouse. The Schloss was built in 1875! yesterday

today
Look at the picture of the Schloss from many years ago and the Schloss as it is today. Find and circle the one big difference!
Looks like it‘s really hard to find!

Fun fact: This is our Head of School, Mr. Timothy Thomas. He has been Head of School for over 10 years! He makes sure MIS keeps growing bigger and better. Something you should know about him is that he went to 11 different schools while growing up in the USA. He knows what it‘s like to be ‘the new kid‘.
I simply love to dress up!
Mr. Thomas gets dressed up a lot to attend important events and make speeches. Help him get dressed up! Give him a fancy tie!

Fun fact: In Germany, on the first day of 1st-grade, you can bring a big cone to school! This is called a ‘Schultüte‘. It‘s full of presents, candy, and school supplies. If you come to MIS in the 1st-grade, you can have a cone too!
Guess what‘s in mine!
am I in, or am I out?
Fill up your Schultüte!
You get to buy or decorate a cone to match your personality with your favorite things. Color your cone and put your favorite toys in it!

Fun fact: Mrs. Wagner was the first employee of MIS. She is almost 100 years old and she still works at school. She was the original beekeeper and currently manages the gardens and the landscaping. That‘s right! We have our own bee colony at school!

Fun fact: The Junior School library has more than 22,000 books in 22 different languages. Of course, the library is a place to read and learn, but it‘s also a place to celebrate our stories, our cultures, and the characters who inspire us to do great things.
Draw yourself onto the screen of the phone!
Our library has a fun tradition. On every school break, Junior School students take a picture of themselves reading a book. Even if you are travelling during the break, it‘s still important to do your vacation reading! Draw a picture of yourself reading in your favorite vacation destination.

Fun fact: The MIS campus is a nature preserve. We have a pond, organic gardens, 7 different play areas, an outdoor Maker‘s Space, and many kilometers of trails snaking through the woods. There is always something interesting to discover.
Seems they are all hiding somewhere…
Our campus is wild!
Find the animals that live on our campus and give them a home in our forest.

I am the mini Karate-Wildcat!
Fun fact: The MIS mascot is a Wildcat! You might see our mascot cheering and roaring at MIS sports games and matches!
Cheer

Fun fact: The Maker‘s Space has all kinds of tools, electronics, and materials you need to make anything you can dream of. All you need is an idea and imagination, and our Maker‘s Space Coordinator will help you do it!

1st-graders made this scarecrow for our garden!

Draw a picture of something you‘ve always wanted to make and bring it to the Maker‘s Space when you get to school!

Fun fact: This is Justus. Now he is in Middle School at MIS, but he used to be a Junior School student just like you. When he was in 4th-grade, Justus learned that the population of bats that live on and around our campus are endangered. Because he cares about our environment, he researched everything he could about bat habitats. Then, he built bat houses in the Junior School Maker‘s Space. These bat houses help bats find shelter, especially during cold months.
Huh, it‘s soooo dark!
At night, bats need their sonar to find food and their friends. Draw a line to match the bats that look the same.

Fun fact: At MIS, we are close to the mountains. You can see the Alps from our campus! This means, we get all kinds of weather, including snow!
Complete the crossword puzzle to get ready for snowy recesses at MIS! Hint: The word in the middle is the coldest season of the year.
With the right clothes, you can have tons of fun!

Fun fact: In 2024, Junior School students got a brand new gymnasium. One of the things that Junior School students like the most about the special designs on the floor is that you can make up your own games using the shapes, colors, and lines on the floor.
Wow, so many beautiful shapes!
Create and color your own scribbles and shapes on the gym floor.

Fun fact: Last school year, every MIS student painted their own ‘identity stone‘. Each stone was placed together to create a pathway in front of the Learning NeXus. The message is that all of our identities come together to creating something big, beautiful and impactful.

Make your own identity stone!
Find a stone and paint it to express your own identity. When you come to MIS, you can add your stone to the path!
