What is voter intimidation?

Voter intimidation is a violation of your civil rights and a federal crime.

For example, if someone: Threatens you, harasses you or interferes with your choice of candidates.

Falsely presents themselves as an election official.

Aggressively questions you about your citizenship, criminal record or other qualifications to vote.

What do these politicians do?

Governor

The state’s top official can veto or sign bills into law. They’re also in charge of the Indiana National Guard.

Lieutenant governor

Serves as president of the state Senate and can give tie-breaking votes on bills. Oversees many state agencies. Takes over as governor if the governor dies, resigns or is removed from office.

What do these politicians do?

The attorney general’s office

Defends state officials and agencies in lawsuits.

Protects consumers from fraud and unfair business practices.

Gives opinions on whether laws align with the state constitution.

State House representative/senator

They write bills, which are drafts of possible laws. They vote on whether these bills will be sent to the governor, who can sign them into law.

Township board of trustees

They oversee the township trustee and approve budgets, which the trustee’s office uses to help residents with rent, utility bills or other needs.

School board members

They influence school curriculum; hire and fire school superintendents; and approve budgets that affect staff, programs and school safety.

The Marion County treasurer’s office Collects taxes (like property taxes) and manages the county’s financial resources.
