Just like that, we’re in the home-stretch of what has been another amazing, busy season at Mirabel!

It was a wonderful April at Mirabel. Members and their guests enjoyed some great events from Masters Guest Day to our Easter Week celebrations. We wrapped up an exciting Staghorn Men’s Invitational event that seemed to have it all: wild-weather swings, tight fields, and a shootout complete with all the drama and fun we could hope for! A hearty congratulations to our entire team for a great tournament!

We continue to process applications for the Social Membership Waitlist and added two wonderful Members-in-waiting to that list in April. Plus, we have five more applications processing for that status.

We had one Social Membership resignation in April, which allowed one of the Social Members-in-waiting to complete the process and become our newest Social Members.

We also processed two Golf Membership applications as part of real estate sales.

I’d like to recognize the Members who resigned: Justin & Danielle Brown, Jon & Kellie Greene, and Derek Tallon & Sherrie Johnston. We wish them the best!

Now, I’m thrilled to be able to introduce you to our newest Members! Please join me in welcoming them to the family:

Kim & Janice Sobinsky, Lake Forest, Illinois

Both Kim and Janice are originally from the Chicago area. Kim attended Illinois Wesleyan University and graduated in 1976. After graduation he attended University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. After a surgical residency, he joined a private surgical practice in Lake Forest, Illinois, where he has been since 1986. Currently, he is semiretired with plans to completely retire in the near future. Kim is an avid golfer and also enjoys traveling, socializing, and exercising.

Janice attended Purdue University and graduated in 1977 with a degree in nursing. After graduation she worked at Christ Hospital in Oaklawn, Illinois, where she eventually became the head nurse in the open-heart unit. She subsequently retired when her second child was born in 1986.

Kim and Janice have three adult children, two of whom are married. All live in the Chicago area. They have four grandchildren.

During the past year they have been in Arizona each month for about a week at a time; however, when Kim completely retires, they plan to be in Arizona much more. Kim has played golf and been to many clubs in the Phoenix area, and none has impressed him more than Mirabel. The people at Mirabel seem very friendly and welcoming. Kim knows a number of existing Members at Mirabel and all have been very encouraging.

Jason & Cindy Dunkle, Scottsdale, AZ

Jason is originally from Denver, CO. During his career, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English Teaching, a Master’s Degree in Education Administration, and a Doctorate in Statistics. He taught high school English and Statistics in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, for 25 years, while also serving as a basketball coach and golf coach. Jason is an avid golfer, and he enjoys fly-fishing, cold beer, and various sports (and occasional sports betting…ha ha!)

Cindy was born in Indianapolis, IN, but her family soon moved to Castle Rock, CO, where she enjoyed her childhood. After Cindy obtained a B.S. in Psychology, she held roles of increasing responsibility within human resources in pharmaceutical companies, largely in the Bay Area. After years with Genentech/ Roche, Cindy left in 2015 to help start Denali Therapeutics with the goal to develop medicines to defeat Alzheimer’s, ALS, and Parkinson’s disease. She currently serves as Chief People Officer with Denali.

Cindy and Jason are rare “high school sweethearts.” Meeting in a junior-level English class, they fell in love and never looked back. They have two children. Their son, Kyler, is a professional golfer with Korn Ferry Tour status. Their daughter, Madison, currently attends college in Utah working towards a career in Veterinary Sciences.

Cindy and Jason moved to Peoria, Arizona, four years ago. They love the weather, the golf opportunities, and the relationships they have formed. After visiting several clubs in the Scottsdale area, they are confident that Mirabel is the best Club for them: friendly people, top-notch facilities, and an established culture of enjoying life.

Wayne Deans, Whitefish, MT

Wayne was born in Montreal, Quebec, and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1968 from Sir George Williams University, and then completed his MBA at McMaster University in 1970.

Following University, Wayne spent 10 years at the Bank of Canada 1970 to 1980 as Assistant Chief, Securities Department in Ottawa, Montreal, and Vancouver. He subsequently spent five years with Wood Gundy as a Vice President in Vancouver and Toronto, and then was President of the MK Wong and Associates Investment Council from 1986 to 1992.

In 1992 Wayne co-founded Deans Knight Capital Management, a Vancouver, Canada-based investment firm. Wayne served as CEO of the firm for 25 years and continues to act as lead portfolio manager of the Deans Knight Equity Fund.

Wayne is a founding member of the University of British Columbia Portfolio Management Foundation (PMF) which was established in 1987. This program teaches and mentors students who are pursuing careers in the financial industry by providing access to the best investment professionals globally. Wayne continues to be an active advisor, and educator to students today and has donated more than 50 university scholarships over the years. With the desire to present graduates with a more authentic investing experience, Wayne gifted UBC The Wayne Deans Investment Analysis Center in conjunction with the Sauder School of Business. This Center offers students and faculty members access to leading-edge financial technology and software.

Wayne supports a variety of organizations in Vancouver, Montana, and Mexico. For many years he served as Honorary Chair of the BCSPCA Off-Leashed Gala, and for eight years as Vice-Chair of the Vancouver Police Foundation. He continues to serve as a Director of the Fraser Institute, Canada’s leading think tank. Wayne is an avid (and addicted) golfer, and is currently a member of the Iron Horse Club in Whitefish, Montana, and Punta Mita Golf Club in Punta Mita, Mexico. Wayne currently resides with his significant other, Leslie, and dog, Enzo, in Whitefish.

As always, if you have friends or colleagues that you think would love being a Member of Mirabel and you would like me to reach out to them, please let me know.
