The vision for this shoot was modern and clean, mirroring the fresh, vibrant atmosphere of The Leaf. Think greenery galore and naturallooking photography opportunities that’ll make your Instagram followers swoon. Embracing the lush surroundings and playing with dark and white contrasts on the tablescape resulted in pure magic. The harvest-style table was a feast for the eyes. Picture lower flower arrangements dancing alongside assorted height taper candles, creating peaks and valleys in the design. It was like Mother Nature and contemporary chic had a lovechild, and we were there to capture every glorious moment. We wanted this shoot to feel elevated, and boy, did it deliver. FROM WEST HAWK TO FOREVER Let’s whisk you away on a journey through time, love, and a touch of serendipity. About 8 years ago, our love story began, sparked by the magic of mutual friends. However, it wasn’t until September 1st, six years back, that the universe decided it was time for us to take the plunge into romance. A pivotal moment by the family lake at West Hawk, surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the water, is where Ryan popped the question that changed it all. Five years after he officially asked me to be his girlfriend, he asked me to be his forever at the very place that held a special spot in my heart – West Hawk, where memories are etched in the shores. Now, rewind to the early days of our love story. Shortly after we started dating, I took the leap and moved from Winnipeg to Brandon, where he called home. People may have raised their eyebrows, thinking I was a bit crazy for making such a big 22 | Mint Weddings

move so soon. But, hey, spoiler alert – it worked out splendidly. Fast forward to today, and we not only share a house but also the joy of having the sweetest furry companion, Oakley, wagging his tail through our adventures. This becomes especially essential in the summer since the UV index is high, and your chances of incurring sun damage are increased from spending more time outside. A single bad sunburn can increase your risk of skin cancer, and the effects of repeated sun exposure contribute to skin aging regardless of if you get burnt. We want to make the most of our time outside, but not at the expense of skin damage! The clear solution is UV protection. UV protection methods can include wearing hats, staying in the shade or covering up with clothing when possible, but the most reliable defense is proper sunscreen use. Not all sunscreens are created equal, so we let an APEX Aesthetics skincare specialist give us the lowdown on how to choose a good sunscreen while walking us through the options they have at their clinic.

Confession time – compromise isn’t my strong suit, especially since I’m a designer (and obviously always right, right?). When we tackled our unfinished basement, I embraced my husband’s ideas, and we ended up going with his layout proposal. Shocking, I know! Since then, I’ve stopped instantly vetoing his ideas and started really listening. Turns out, two brains are better than one, and our functional, beautiful space is proof. Oh, and about the TVs – men and their multiple screens, right? Well, when we finished our basement bar with its stunning jade granite countertop, splash, and copper fixtures, I put my foot down. No plain black TVs here! If he wanted a SECOND TV in our basement, it had to be a Samsung Frame TV because it’s not just a TV; it’s art, just like our bar.
