PUBLISHERS’ NOTE

W

elcome to the ninth edition of Education Destination Malaysia: Guide to International & Private Schools (EDM)!

The world has changed a great deal since the pandemic began. While physical school attendance was disrupted, learning at international schools has continued albeit via online channels. International schools had to pivot to online learning very quickly to ensure that their students remained engaged and were able to progress towards their learning goals for the school year. When choosing an international school for your children now, considerations will need to include the level of preparedness of schools to deliver online learning effectively. With more than 180 international schools in Malaysia, the EDM Guide has never been more important given the increasing variety of curricula, fees and facilities on offer. In the Features section, read about how international schools in the region have responded to the impact of the pandemic; how schools have undergone a substantial technological shift; and what parents should look for when choosing an international school. There are also articles on important topics such as what to expect in a boarding school; the benefits of learning a foreign language, including Mandarin; and how to select the best extracurricular activities for your child. Profiles of teachers, students, alumni and boarders have been included to give you insights into the international school experience. These perspectives will enable you to make better decisions about the type of school that meets your requirements. Find out if there is an international school near where you live by viewing the map showing the location

of all international schools in the country in the Essential Information section. We have also included more in-depth accounts of schools in the Klang Valley, Johor and Penang in this section. In addition, we have provided an update on the statistics on international schools and infographics on school fees, the application process, and how to make the most of Virtual Open Days. The section on Preschool Education emphasises the importance of education in the early years and draws attention to five factors parents need to consider when deciding on the right preschool for their child. International schools offer a wide variety of curricula in the English medium and we have provided information on them in the Types of Curricula section. This will help parents decide which curriculum is most suited to their child’s needs. EDM also offers a comprehensive list of international schools, profiles of individual schools as well as the international school directory. Comparative reference charts in the guide have also been updated. Explore a variety of pre-university programmes in the section called Pre-university and Beyond. There are in-depth articles on the A Level and IB Diploma Programme. There is also an article on what makes a good university. Please visit our website www.EducationDestinationMalaysia.com for the latest news and information on international schools. The e-copy of the guide is also available on the website.
