The MinKwon Center for Community Action is a dynamic, mission-driven, and people-powered nonprofit organization that serves, educates, and organizes the Korean American, Asian Pacific American (APA), and immigrant communities in New York and around the country. The MinKwon Center offers free assistance with public benefits, health insurance enrollment, and taxes; provides free legal representation for immigration and housing, promotes civic participation with voter and census registration and outreach, and organizes campaigns with other local, state, and federal coalitions. By prioritizing the needs and voices of low-income, undocumented, youth, senior, and limited English proficient residents, we are building a multilingual, multi-generational base of engaged community members to achieve social and economic justice for all.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a dedicated and talented individual to serve as a Civic Participation Manager. MinKwon Center’s Civic Participation Manager will work closely with the Executive Director and Interim Civic Participation Director to oversee MinKwon's civic engagement work to empower the Asian American community through electoral organizing, education and advocacy around voting rights/reforms. The Civic Participation Manager will guide MinKwon's efforts in coalition-building, strategic thinking and execution of voter engagement campaigns.

Essential duties and responsibilities of this full-time position include the following:

 Provide strong support to MinKwon’s coalition leadership among organizations in New York City focused on civic engagement in the APA community. This includes strategizing the overall direction of the coalitions, leading issue-based campaigns, policy analysis, helping coordinate coalition events and meetings, and providing technical assistance to organizations.

 Help coordinate voter outreach and educational activities, including developing materials, doorto-door canvassing, and executing voter registration and engagement efforts.

 Provide support for the planning of voter education events, such as candidate forums and voter engagement trainings.

 Work closely with other staff to integrate civic engagement into MinKwon’s other programs.

 Represent MinKwon Center in key tables, coalitions and meetings with allies and government officials, and participate on panels and other public education opportunities.

 Support the development and implementation of strategies for advocacy and organizing campaigns.

 Perform research on voter and demographic issues impacting the Asian American community, as well as analyses of demographic data.

 Supervise one or more staff in carrying out campaigns and overseeing potential interns and volunteers.

 Work closely with the Development team on grant reports and funding proposals, and ensure fulfillment of deliverables.

 Coordinate with communications team on media and building awareness to the mainstream.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate would have the following experience and/or attributes:

 2-3 years' experience in electoral, civic engagement or political campaigns.

 Strong understanding of voting rights, voter data, demographics and voting behavior.

 Experience managing campaigns, especially in a coalition context.

 Strong communications skills in writing and speaking, including public speaking.

 Highly organized and detail oriented.

 Willingness and flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

 Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently with minimal supervision.
