On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of World War One, the SVK Ministry of Defence has come up with a new logo to commemorate, for the next four years, one of the most significant milestones in a history of mankind. The Department of Defence will be displaying the new logo on any Great War - related occasions, i. e. un l the end of the centenary of WWI. The idea of a silhoue e of a soldier in a uniform of that me, mourning over a loss of his comrades-in-arms, evolved from a sculpture by Ladislav Majerský A Soldier with a Helmet, a bronze original of which is to be found in his na ve town Hliník nad Hronom and its model is exhibited in the Museum of Military History in Svidník. In a number 100, a WWI typical weapon symbolizes the number 1, and the poppy flowers stand for zeroes, since the red poppy holds valuable symbolism for war veterans and has become a symbol of the Remembrance Day a er WWI. The striking red colour has become a symbol of blood spilt in Flanders Fields, the most devastated ba lefields in WWI. The DoD designed and developed the new logo on its own.
