FSA Awards Scholarships
FOOD SHIPPERS OF AMERICA (FSA) ANNOUNCED THE RECIPIENTS OF ITS 2022 JOHN J. MURPHY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM AT ITS ANNUAL CONFERENCE.
One of the many benefits of FSA membership, eligible applicants are children or dependents (including spouses) of a supply chain or logistics department employee whose membership dues are current. A total of $230,500 in scholarships have been awarded since 2011.
Winners of scholarship awards in 2022 are: • Recipient ($7,500): Madison Pixler (Parent: Holly Pixler, Senior Director-Transportation & Logistics,
Ardent Mills), and is majoring in Chemical Engineering at University of
Notre Dame
• Runner Up ($5,000): Timothy Venable (Parent: Brett Venable, IT Business Administrator, Burris Logistics) • 3rd Place ($4,000): Nathan Ferrel (Parent: Hector Ferrel, Transportation Manager, McLane Food

About the FSA John J. Murphy Scholarship
The namesake of the program, John Murphy, was a supporter of FSA in many ways: as an active member with food manufacturer Bordon Foods and then once he retired in 1995, serving as the Executive Director of FSA for 14 years. His impact and contributions to the organization included being the voice and visionary of FSA, serving as an ambassador for the food industry, facilitating the combining of the rail/3PL and motor carrier conferences in 1997, and advancing the mission and values of FSA as an educational resource that drives change in the industry. Eligible applicants are children or dependents of Supply Chain/ Logistics department employees at FSA member companies. Requirements include: • High School Seniors or current enrollees in undergraduate or graduate programs. Additional merit is given to Business majors, particularly those focused on Supply Chain or Logistics management. • Maintains a 3.5 Grade Point
Average • Applications needed to be submitted in their entirety to be eligible. • Selection is made by an in-depth evaluation of all scholarship material by sitting Officers and
Board Members of Food Shippers of America.
• The scholarship is funded solely by the FSA membership dues and advertising income Food Chain
