Dr. Branko Prpa MEDICAL EXCELLENCE
SPINE SURGERY
After coming over from Serbia at 6 months of age, my family settled in Gary, Indiana where my father was employed as a steel mill worker. Throughout my elementary and high school years I excelled in athletics and academics. After witnessing and personally experiencing many sports related injuries, I knew I wanted to become an orthopedic surgeon. After graduating as the valedictorian from high school, I received a full academic scholarship to DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois, where my interest in science and medicine further solidified my desire to become a medical doctor. Following my undergraduate degree, I continued my training at the Mayo School of Medicine, where I also did my orthopedic surgery residency. During my residency, I developed a strong interest in spinal surgery. To further my specialized training, I did a joint neurosurgical and orthopedic spinal surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. My fellowship focused on complex reconstructive spinal surgery and complex spinal instrumentation. The unique aspect of my fellowship was that I received training from both neurosurgical and orthopedic fellowship trained spinal surgeons. During my fellowship, I received highly specialized training in treating complex spinal deformities including adult and pediatric scoliosis, flat back deformity, and high-grade spondylolisthesis. Today, I am in private practice in Milwaukee, Kenosha and Waukesha, Wisconsin. I specialize in work related injuries of the spine, complex reconstruction, revision spinal surgery, and failed back surgery syndrome. I have expertise in minimally invasive spine surgery, fusion, and arthroplasty techniques. I currently hold privileges at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee and St. Catherine’s Medical Center in Pleasant Prairie. If you are in the area and are suffering from chronic pain related to any spinal pathology, please do not hesitate to call the Dr. Branko Prpa Spine Institute for a spinal consultation.
