STREET
HEAD DOWN HISTORIC KING DRIVE, and youʼll pass restaurants, flower shops, apothecaries, offices, bookstores. Stop inside any of the neighborhoodʼs unique small businesses, and youʼll have the chance to shop for local goods, meet friendly people and support one of Milwaukeeʼs vibrant, growing neighborhoods.
“The business owners on King Drive arenʼt just entrepreneurs, theyʼre like family,” says Raynetta Hill, executive director of the Historic King Drive Business Improvement District. “Theyʼre the familiar faces who remember your name, your order and your story.”
King Drive is the only designated Main Street in the city of Milwaukee. The corridor is home to dozens of businesses – and the Historic King Drive BID is a centerpiece of it, connecting the commercial and public partners that have driven the neighborhoodʼs revitalization. The BID connects business owners, community and civic groups, and more to share resources, collaborate and help local enterprises thrive.
Consider just a few of the businesses in the neighborhood. Thereʼs Samʼs Place, a cafe featuring food and drinks with a side of jazz music; 414loral, providing beautiful bouquets; Honey Bee Sage Wellness and
Apothecary, serving restorative tea and spirit-free cocktails; Bronzeville Collective, a retail space with goods from over 30 local creatives; CopyWrite Magazine and its retail, studio, event and networking space; GJS Skin and Soul Care and Sigue Sanando Studio, a face and body care company; LionArt Media, a media production company; Dream Lounge Social lounge and bar; and Niche Book Bar, a bookstore where you can enjoy a glass of wine while you read. And in the midst of all that business, the surrounding neighborhood is continuing to grow, with over 1,000 new residents moving in over
just the past year. “This corridor is more than a commercial strip with local businesses,” says Hill. “It ʼs a living, breathing community built on care, strong values and connection.”

Lowlands Group FACE OF GEZELLIG
TAKE A SEAT AT THE CAF É BENELUX BAR, ORDER A BIER, and youʼll quickly see why locals love the place. The restaurant ʼs ethos embodies gezellig (heh-SELL-ick), a Dutch word that has no exact counterpart in the English language but describes that feeling of coziness when youʼre surrounded by friends and loved ones. That ambiance is woven into the fabric of every establishment operated by The Lowlands Group. For nearly two decades, the restaurant group has been the force behind many of the cityʼs most memorable dining experiences. Lowlands runs Café Hollander, Centraal Grand Café & Tappery, Buckatabon Tavern and Supper Club, as well as Café Benelux, which recently underwent an exciting renovation, adding a new retractable glass enclosure to its iconic rooftop.
What makes a Lowlands restaurant unique? There are many core brand components, but authenticity and travel are essential attributes. The adventurous Lowlands team traverses the globe to find inspiration for its restaurants, particularly the grand cafés of Northwestern Europe, with an emphasis on Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Committed to infusing European culture into their Midwest spaces and company culture, theyʼve taken more than 75 employees to Belgium over the years to experience it at the source. When you step inside one of Lowlandsʼ grand cafés, youʼll feel transported to one of those distant destinations,
where these ornately decorated settings serve as social and cultural hubs. Whether youʼre just sipping a coffee, grabbing lunch or meeting friends for drinks and dinner, the atmosphere is convivial and rich in history.
Gezellig doesnʼt only apply to the cultural traditions of Europe – itʼs a sensation you can find across the globe, including Wisconsinʼs Northwoods and supper clubs. That particularly Midwestern form of gezellig inspired the Lowlands team to open Buckatabon Supper Club, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year. Capturing comfort, warmth and heritage, the supper club embraces that same endearing spirit of camaraderie by way of perpetual wanderlust.
From brunch to lunch to dinner, Lowlands is all about gezellig – that beloved Dutch concept of warmhearted togetherness. With a wide variety of exceptional international biers, thoughtfully curated menus, and memorable neighborhood spaces brimming with character, every visit is an experience worth savoring.

Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) FACE OF MUSIC
THE MILWAUKEE YOUTH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA (MYSO) recently wrapped up its summer 2025 tour to Poland and the Czech Republic. With this biennial trip, young musicians – 89 this year – achieve a milestone: their first international performance.
But the tour is just one movement in MYSOʼs broader symphony. As the nationʼs largest after-school youth orchestra, MYSO provides 6,000 hours of instruction each year, presents 115 performances, and serves 1,000 students – many of whom would not have access to music education otherwise. “Since our inception nearly 70 years ago, weʼve never turned away a student due to financial need,” says Linda Edelstein, MYSOʼs CEO. In fact, more than $630,000 in financial assistance will be distributed this year alone.
Access is a pillar of MYSOʼs mission. Of all MYSOʼs musicians, 45% receive financial aid; 76% of students in Community Partnership Programs – which include beginning strings, band and steel-pan programs – receive aid that funds their music education.
MYSO brings together young people from across southeastern Wisconsin – students from a wide range of communities, life experiences and income levels—all united by a shared commitment to music. Nearly half of MYSO ʼs students are youths of color. While every program welcomes students from many walks of life, the Community
Partnership Programs focus on those who often face the greatest barriers – reaching kids from Milwaukee ʼs most under-resourced neighborhoods and families with limited financial means.
Yet MYSO is more than music education. Beyond musical skills, MSYO develops confidence, resilience and empathy in its students. “They become brave, tenacious and emotionally healthy while they're learning this discipline,” Edelstein says. “They work together to find new ways to express themselves, and itʼs a really unique opportunity for them to develop sensitivity to those around them.”
Starting next month, MYSO is leading a statewide initiative: Violins of Hope-Wisconsin. The five-month residency will showcase violins that Jewish musicians played during the Holocaust, serving as symbols of resilience and resistance. The residency is connecting 100 community partners and schools. The instruments will be featured in concerts, exhibitions, and educational programming across Wisconsin to bear witness to the stories the instruments tell.

Terrazzo & Marble Supply FACE OF QUALITY NATURAL STONE
TERRAZZO & MARBLE SUPPLY, a leading distributor of exquisite materials for kitchen, bath, wall cladding and decor applications, has established itself as the go-to source for timeless natural stone and engineered slabs. Established in 1947, the employee-owned company provides the design and architectural communities with a curated collection to assist in making their vision become reality. For more than 75 years, the T&M team remains a trusted and reliable source for stunning terrazzo, natural stone, quartz and porcelain materials.
“We donʼt have your typical builder-grade facility,” says Jenna Nejedlo, the Outside Sales Representative for Terrazzo & Marble Supplyʼs Menomonee Falls location. “Most people who come through our doors immediately notice how different our material selection is.”
Sourcing their natural stone from select quarries around the world, the facility features a curated collection of premium surfacing brands
including DIFINITI, Diresco, Antolini, Vermont Danby and more.
While materials like quartz and porcelain are always popular options, Nejedlo says natural stone is making a major comeback.
“It ʼs become our bread and butter,” she says, thanks to its warm and earthy tones and trend-resistant appeal. As one of the leading stone suppliers in the Midwest, the T&M team takes great pride in their business, connecting with their clients to create one-of-a-kind spaces that are uniquely theirs.
LAST YEAR, BARTELT. THE REMODELING RESOURCE celebrated a major milestone: 40 years of building, designing and remodeling homes across Southeastern Wisconsin.
Rick Bartelt, Barteltʼs owner and founder, has navigated four decades in a dynamic and ever-changing industry to establish Bartelt as one of the stateʼs premier design/build firms. He has built a team of in-house experts and trusted industry partners to maintain a high standard across all projects, ensuring innovative design, quality craftsmanship, open communication and an efficient construction process.
“We make a lot of promises and commitments to our clients,” says Bartelt. “Having our in-house experts, who we know and trust, means we can ensure your project is going to be top-notch. It ʼs our goal to deliver on our promises and create an exceptional experience, with everyone caring for your home and well-being from start to finish.”
Some team members have been with the business for over two decades. “They start here and they stay,” says Bartelt.
In addition to running his firm, Bartelt also started two other businesses, Y.E.S. Electric and Windham Hill Custom Cabinetry, which
work alongside the remodeling company on projects.
“All three companies complement one another,” he says. “We can tell a customer, ‘The electrician will start tomorrow,ʼ and know it ʼ s going to happen. And just like having our own carpenters, we know that theyʼre going to do the work the way we need it done.”
Bartelt projects are known for their timeless design and avoidance of passing trends, resulting in spaces that will look amazing for many years to come. And the carpentry team, pictured here, brings decades of combined experience to each project to realize the client ʼs vision.
“It might sound cliche to say that weʼre ‘client-centric,ʼ but we walk the walk on that,” says Bartelt. “Everybody jumps into action to help one another and our clients. Thereʼs a great level of care here.”

D’Angelo & Grabow, LLP
FACE OF DIVORCE MEDIATION
OVER A DECADE AGO, attorneys Christine Davies DʼAngelo and ReAnna Grabow met at the Waukesha County Self Help Legal Clinic, where they volunteered to help unrepresented members of the public get legal advice on divorce. They began working together shortly thereafter.
Today, they share ownership of DʼAngelo & Grabow, LLP, the Waukesha-based law firm focusing on family mediation and divorce. The partners were born and raised in Waukesha, and their roots in the community fuel their commitment to making the divorce process more approachable and less adversarial. “I think the majority of divorce cases could be settled through mediation,” says DʼAngelo. “Mediation does require a level of cooperation between the parties, but if each party is willing to be open to ideas they may not have considered, mediation can work really well.”
Grabow and DʼAngelo work with both pro se, or unrepresented parties, to help them through the court process and with couples who have their own attorneys but have reached an impasse in their own negotiations. With over four decades of combined experience, they bring thoughtful and reasoned expertise to their clients.
As mediators, they donʼt give legal advice or represent either party in the case. Instead, they serve as neutral guides, helping couples navigate difficult conversations, clarify their goals and ultimately reach a resolution that both sides can accept. While divorce is never easy, mediation offers a chance to avoid lengthy, expensive court battles and preserve a measure of cooperation and respect moving forward.
“The result may not be what you expected or everything you wanted – it will require compromise on both sides – but in the end, it is always better to make decisions for yourself rather than have a judge who is essentially a stranger make them for you,” says DʼAngelo.
FOR THE PAST NINE YEARS, Anthony and Teresa Machi have helped investors make reliable, passive income with their firm, Mach1 Capital. With over 30 years of finance and real estate experience between them, the husband and wife founded the Milwaukee-based private debt fund with the goal of giving investors alternative opportunities outside of traditional stocks and bonds.
Mach1ʼs investments are backed by real estate, which acts as a potential protection against inflation. “Having physical assets such as real estate acts as a hedge in todayʼs market,” says Teresa.
“We provide accredited investors with stable, consistent monthly returns ranging from 10-12% annualized, all backed by tangible real estate assets,” says Anthony. “Our accredited investors are paid monthly, and yields are tied to the investment itself providing more stability.”
Interested accredited investors can schedule a consultation with Mach1. The team meets with each potential client to determine the
right investment for them. “Alternative investments historically have gotten better returns,” says Anthony. “They ʼre not tied to anything public like the stock market, so it takes a lot of the volatility out of the equation.”
After an initial one-year investment term, Mach1 clients can reinvest or adjust their investment for improved returns.
“Mach1 Capital is a family-owned business, run by investors, so we understand what matters to our accredited investors – reliable monthly returns, and a lending history with no foreclosures,” Anthony says. “The Mach1 team shares the same goal as its accredited investors – achieving financial freedom while keeping investments local.”
Potawatomi Casino Hotel FACE OF DIGITAL GAMING
AFTER COMPLETING A BLOCKBUSTER RENOVATION last year, Potawatomi Casino Hotel is now ushering in a new era of gaming. The casino is launching two new digital gaming apps, which will allow guests to game both on site and on the go from the convenience of their phones.
The first app is a mobile casino experience, designed to mirror the thrill of in-person gaming from anywhere. Users can spin digital slot machines and play other games while they rack up points that can be redeemed at Potawatomi for dining, gaming and entertainment.
The second will focus on mobile on-premise sports betting. Currently,
Potawatomi’s guests must visit a kiosk or betting counter to wager on a game. But with the app, guests will be able to place bets from anywhere within the casino’s footprint, including restaurants and lounges. The process will be similar, but now guests don’t have to cut a dinner short or interrupt their time at a slot machine to place a bet for an upcoming game.
“Digital gaming represents the next chapter for us,” says Potawatomi Casino Hotel CEO Dominic Ortiz. “We are continually seeking strategic opportunities to strengthen our market position and provide cutting-edge technologies for our guests. With our new apps, our guests will get a

top-of-the-line mobile gaming user experience, along with the tools and resources needed to game responsibly.”
Last year, Potawatomi completed Project Champions and introduced its Sportsbook, new gaming space and Poker Room. The Potawatomi Sportsbook, one of the largest in the Midwest, capped a $190 million renovation which brought two new gaming areas, new bars and restaurants, and 300 new slot machines. Now, the introduction of these digital betting platforms marks the latest way Potawatomi Casino Hotel is committed to staying competitive in a rapidly changing gaming industry.
“We will continue to reinvest in our on-site experience at the casino, but in addition we’re making sure our guests can connect with us in new, convenient and rewarding ways,” Ortiz says.

Elevate + Co.
FACE OF AGING REDEFINED
WHEN ELIZABETH LYVERS FOUNDED ELEVATE + CO. IN 2022, the practice started small – just her in a rental space. After a career in nursing, including earning her doctorate in nursing practice and nurse anesthesia, Lyvers opened her own medical aesthetics boutique with the goal of providing excellent, personalized service, while destigmatizing injectable beauty treatments. And in only two years, Elevate + Co. has expanded from a one-woman operation to a multi-provider practice, offering skin treatments such as dermal fillers, facials, microneedling and more, from a beautiful, newly renovated office in the Third Ward.
“Our goal is to keep people looking natural, with conservative treatment options that enhance and elevate their beauty,” Lyvers says. “These subtle enhancements can make you feel like a refreshed and confident version of yourself, whatever your age.”
When a patient comes to Elevate + Co., they’re not sold on a treatment.
Instead, they’re offered education about the options available to them, whether that’s a collagen-stimulating injectable, a chemical peel, a neuromodulator or a regimen combining several treatments. Depending on their goals, they can make a well-informed decision about the many possible treatments, customized for their unique needs.
“No patient is on the exact same regimen as someone else,” Lyvers says. “We focus on each patient’s skin care needs and how we can help. That’s how we’ve managed to grow as a business, by building this trust with our patients who keep coming back and tell their friends about us.”
Design Tech Remodeling FACE OF KITCHENS
FOR OVER TWO DECADES, MEQUON - BASED DESIGN TECH Remodeling has been the trusted partner for homeowners across Southeastern Wisconsin seeking to transform their living spaces. Since 1997, this family-owned firm, now led by Nicole Raffensperger, has built a reputation for delivering exceptional kitchen renovations that seamlessly blend functionality with individual style.
While their expertise in creating stunning and functional kitchens is widely recognized, Design Tech’s capabilities extend beyond. They are also skilled in crafting custom bathroom and lower-level designs, as evidenced by their 2024 Milwaukee Magazine Home & Design Award for bathroom remodeling. At the heart of Design Tech Remodeling ’ s success is a commitment to a collaborative and client-focused approach. Raffensperger emphasizes the partnership they build with homeowners: “We’re really working in a partnership with the homeowners to meet their wish list, but also trying to think outside the box. We want to offer them something that is unique, something that they haven’t seen, something for them to think about.”
This dedication to understanding the client ’s vision begins with a thorough conversation. As Raffensperger explains, “Talking with clients about their projects is an interview of sorts. We need a thorough understanding of their needs and how they live. There’s a lot of collaboration and communication before any decisions are even made.”
Design Tech’s comprehensive design process ensures a smooth and stress-free experience for homeowners, guiding them from the initial concept to the final project completion. This meticulous approach guarantees that expectations are not only met but consistently exceeded.
If you’re looking to transform your kitchen, bathroom or lower level into a space that truly reflects your style and needs, Design Tech offers the expertise and personalized service to bring your vision to life.

Eye Care Specialists FACE OF OPHTHALMOLOGY
THIS YEAR, EYE CARE SPECIALISTS IS CELEBRATING 40 years! Over the decades, the Eye Care Specialists team has served over 200,000 patients, with treatments for a broad spectrum of eye disorders and conditions. The practice has three locations – Milwaukee, Wauwatosa and West Allis. And the West Allis location recently saw the addition of a new 14,000-square-foot, freestanding clinic across from its existing building. This space represents the team’s commitment to enhancing patient care and expanding services within the community. With an unwavering commitment to serving their patients, the doctors at Eye Care Specialists continue to serve as pioneers in the industry. Members of the team were selected to serve as investigators in FDA-related studies on the safety and effectiveness of laser vision correction. The practice’s founders were the first eye surgeons in Wisconsin to perform ultrasonic cataract removal. And they continually
provide free community-service eye screenings for church, civic and other organizations throughout the greater Milwaukee area.
Plus, Eye Care Specialists is a front-runner in OCT laser scanning to detect and treat glaucoma and retinal disorders. “Catching eye conditions early is crucial because it can prevent irreversible damage and vision loss,” says Dr. Michael Raciti. “Early detection allows for timely treatment options, which can slow or halt the disease progression, preserve vision and offer less invasive treatments.”

JLJ Travel FACE OF TRAVEL PLANNING
FOR MANY TRAVELERS, the excitement of planning a dream vacation can quickly become overwhelming, what with flight routes, hotel options and logistical nightmares. JLJ Travel is founded on the principle of making travel seamless, stress-free and ultra-personalized. Jillian Gibas, founder of JLJ Travel, specializes in helping her clients transform vague ideas into full-fledged itineraries, packed with unforgettable experiences.
Many clients seek out JLJ Travel because they lack the time or resources to research the best way to travel in their chosen destination. “People get really excited about going to Italy or Spain, and then they start diving into it and realize, wow, there are a lot of options,” says Gibas. “My biggest thing is taking that idea in their head and turning it into a reality without the stress.”
One such recent journey planned by Gibas is a three-week motherdaughter adventure across Tokyo, Shikoku and Seoul. “They are spending time in Tokyo for five nights, then heading to the island of
Shikoku to do the famous 88 Temple hike,” says Gibas. “The trip is catered very specifically to that experience.”
Beyond itinerary planning, JLJ Travel ensures a smooth travel experience from start to finish. “One of the most common surprises for my clients is learning that I can arrange VIP fast-track services and private airport transfers, ensuring they avoid long taxi lines and unreliable transportation,” she says. “This makes their arrival process much more seamless and stress-free.”
This year, JLJ Travel is also expanding its services, offering villa rentals for families and groups looking for a more private, luxurious stay. “You can have your own pool, hire a private chef and travel on your own schedule so everyone can just relax,” she says.

Zuern Building Products & Design Center
FACE OF CABINETRY DESIGN
LAST FALL, ZUERN BUILDING PRODUCTS & DESIGN CENTER – a family-owned building and design company started in 1953 – grew its footprint. It acquired Wood Specialties Inc., a well-established and respected local company focused on custom cabinets, stairs, doors and trim. Wood Specialties’ expert designers and skilled cabinet makers are now a part of the Zuern team, as is Wood Specialties’ Menomonee Falls showroom.
“It’s been really smooth working for Zuern and having the opportunity to grow,” says Michelle Priewe, a cabinet designer who came over from Wood Specialties. “We’re now able to expand our customer base for custom cabinetry and millwork.”
With its new addition, Zuern now offers a wider range of millwork and custom cabinetry services to customers across Southeastern Wisconsin. Wood Specialties’ products have been added to Zuern’s already expansive cabinetry portfolio, including lines from Showplace Cabinetry and Countryside Cabinets.
Zuern’s custom cabinetry solutions are built to fit the exact dimensions
of a space, working through small nooks, difficult angles or expansive, open layouts. With every inch considered, clever storage solutions like vertical tray storage, built-in dividers, built-in spice and cooking oil racks, vanity hair tool organizers or unique blind-corner storage can be easily incorporated into the design. Then, the fun design decisions follow, including wood type, finish, door style and color options.
“Customers can come to us with their inspiration, and it’s part of our job to bring those dreams to life,” says Priewe. “We work to meet their functionality, style and budget needs, while providing custom cabinetry solutions that work for their lifestyle and their space.”

MICHELLE PRIEWE
IAG Wealth Partners FACE OF WEALTH MANAGEMENT
ESTABLISHED IN 1985, IAG WEALTH PARTNERS HAS become a premier wealth management firm in Southeastern Wisconsin. Led by founder, president and CEO Lori Watt, the IAG team has spent four decades guiding young professionals, families, retirees and people of all ages in making sound wealth management decisions.
IAG’s approach to financial planning is holistic. While a healthy retirement is always a part of the plan, there are other goals along the way that clients can meet with IAG’s experienced guidance. The comprehensive perspective ensures that spending, saving and investing strategies align with each client’s personal short- and long-term aspirations. Over time, this fosters relationships built on trust and results.
“We are focused on financial planning, and not just on the investments,” says Watt. “How does it all fit in a plan for their life, whether that’s their goals for retirement, their charitable giving, or taking care of the needs of their family and friends. We use that intimate understanding to make a plan that really fits their lives.”
One of the most distinguishing features of IAG is its commitment to multi-generational service. Many clients introduce their children and grandchildren to the firm. Watt has even advised four generations within one family. “We’re in it for the long haul with our clients,” she says. “Seeing families grow and helping them through different life stages is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.”
ANNE
JASON GANIERE, CFP FINANCIAL ADVISOR
CHRISTOPHER MITCHELL, CFP
MANAGING PARTNER, FINANCIAL ADVISOR
This long-term commitment is also reflected in the IAG team itself. More than half of the staff has been with IAG for over a decade, and some for more than two.
“I made the decision early on that we needed to structure an environment that would give our advisors the ability to have the greatest growth potential,” says Watt. “We constantly work on developing the next generation of advisors and helping them to grow within our firm, so they can have the career they dream of.”
With generational success in mind, Watt and the team are working on IAG’s succession plan. “We have begun expanding ownership of IAG to include other of our financial advisors and professional staff,”
says Watt. “We want to keep building on that by growing up our next generation of advisors. That’s why we’re focused so heavily on building from within, so that we can create the team that will carry on the IAG legacy.”

“We love the challenge of older homes,” says Matthew Jahns, Refined Renovations’ owner. “They invite us to explore a house’s soul and uncover its character-defining treasures: original moldings, distinctive archways, vintage fireplaces, built-ins and window surrounds.”
The care and craft they bring to each project is evident: In the past year, the team has received the NARI Milwaukee Gold Award in the kitchens category for their remodeling work. They also won three Milwaukee Magazine 2024 Home & Design Awards, two American Society of Interior Designers Wisconsin awards and a 2025 RED award from LUXE Interiors + Design.
The entire Refined Renovations team has an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship and attention to detail. Whether it’s custom joinery
in the pantry or precision tilework in a master bath, the team loves the small touches that elevate a room.
Their work honors a home’s history – reviving hardwoods, mending plaster and celebrating what’s worth keeping. They highlight “key anchors,” such as vintage fireplace surrounds, unique built-ins and archways. And when something new is introduced, such as an expansion, they ensure the scale, materials and proportions feel as though they’ve always belonged.
“We believe homes should be treated with care and intention, designed to last for generations,” says Jahns. “Our team is committed to creating homes that aren’t just beautiful, but well-crafted, considered and deeply personal. Because the best homes aren’t just well-designed, they’re well-loved for generations.”

Talking Walls FACE OF WALLPAPER
JUST OVER A YEAR AND A HALF AGO, the space that now houses Talking Walls was an empty auto body shop in Brown Deer. Today, it’s the Milwaukee area’s most inspiring wallpaper showroom, open to the public, buzzing with creativity and transforming how people experience wallpaper.
At the helm is owner and wallpaper enthusiast Jodi Lurie, who’s not just curating beautiful walls but building a space where style, storytelling and connection come together. Stepping into Talking Walls feels less like entering a store and more like arriving at a boutique design lounge where inspiration lives on every surface. With thousands of wallpaper samples in every style and color imaginable, the showroom helps both designers and homeowners find the perfect match for their space, aesthetic and budget.
The experience is intentionally approachable and fun, blending high-end aesthetics with laid-back vibes. Clients are encouraged to take their time, flip through books, touch samples, ask questions and get inspired. Whether you’re a design novice or a seasoned pro sourcing for a luxury project, Talking Walls makes the process exciting, not overwhelming. While samples line the drawers and tables, wallpaper is also showcased in immersive, unexpected ways, most notably through mini showrooms created in partnership with local designers. Each space is thoughtfully
styled and anchored by wallpaper that brings the entire vision to life.
“It was really important to me that Talking Walls supports local designers,” says Lurie. “Our mini showrooms have been such a fun way to celebrate their creativity, and to better understand their aesthetic. That insight helps us tremendously when sourcing wallpaper for their client projects.”
But Talking Walls isn’t just about papering your space, it’s about telling your story. “We believe every wall deserves a voice,” Lurie says. “Your walls should reflect who you are, how you live and what you love.”
At Talking Walls, wallpaper isn’t a finishing touch, it’s the beginning of the story. With maximalism and personality-packed interiors on the rise, the showroom has become a destination for those craving something bold, fresh and entirely their own. “There’s always that one magical moment when someone lands on the one,” Lurie says. “You just know. And they do, too.”
Saz’s Hospitality Group FACE OF HOSPITALITY
SAZ’S – EVERY MILWAUKEEAN KNOWS THE NAME. Steve “Saz” Sazama, a bartender with a charismatic aura and a heart for true hospitality, took a leap of faith almost 50 years ago when he opened Saz’s State House on 55th and State. Since then, he and his trusted team have created a fun-loving brand that’s known for great food and even better memories.
The team at Saz’s Hospitality Group likes to stay busy with the flagship restaurant, three catering divisions, four exclusive venues, a booming festival lineup and a retail line. Their passion fuels them to provide “The Finest” experience for their guests across the board.
The dedication, grit and passion of the Saz’s team is shown in the growth of the Saz’s Catering division. What started in the basement of Saz’s State House in the ’90s has now grown into one of the most dynamic catering companies in Southeastern Wisconsin. No event is too big or too small – as long as a good time is at the heart of the
gathering. Saz’s caters nearly 3,000 events annually, ranging from intimate dinners to large-scale corporate events, and even the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay. Catering for thousands of people takes planning, strategy, adaptability and a little bit of delirious optimism. But that’s what makes Saz’s secret sauce truly special – the devotion to both food and people fuels an unrelenting pursuit of excellence.
Saz’s is the exclusive caterer at four elite venues, including Jan Serr Studio, Marcus Performing Arts Center, South Second and Western Lakes Golf Club. Two of Saz’s three catering divisions operate out of the Marcus Performing Arts Center and Western Lakes Golf Club, while the third location is across the street from Saz’s own venue, South Second. That event space in Walker’s Point opened in 2016, and a private patio added in 2024 won a Milwaukee Business Journal Real Estate Award this year.
“We’re always looking to the community for ways to evolve,” says Jaime Peterson, the director of business development. “How can we grow? How can we diversify? How do we meet the needs of all different clients?”
With Milwaukee roots, Saz’s has always fostered a deep love for the local community. On May 3, South Second hosted Queer Prom, a new event thoughtfully curated for the LGBTQ+ community to come together for a night of celebration and fun. The party featured a bumping dance floor, drag performances, flash tattoos, photo booths and resources from Milwaukee Trans and Queer Depot and
Vivent Health. “We wanted to have a public celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and its roots in the Walker’s Point neighborhood,” says Peterson.
Saz’s spirit of collaboration extends beyond events, too. When Milwaukee prepared to host the RNC, Saz’s joined forces with other caterers, restaurants and venues to wow guests from all over the country. “Nobody’s a competitor; everyone’s a friend,” says Peterson.
The hospitality industry is fast-paced, and it takes a special person to make a career in it. To no one’s surprise, the Saz’s team is chock-full of them, inspired by the heart
and grit that started this business almost 50 years ago. “We work with our hearts and with our passion,” says Peterson. “You can’t teach that – it has to be within you. The core group we have here, the people who have been with this company for decades, who manage all the different entities of our business, when you put us all in a room together, it’s powerful.”

Scout Couture
FACE OF TIMELESS FASHION
AMY BASILE, FOUNDER AND DESIGNER of Scout Couture, spent over two decades working in the fashion industry before making her first design four years ago. Each morning when she got dressed, she noticed a consistent issue in her closet – she was buying the same basics over and over again. “I was so frustrated that my shirts would fade, get holes or stretch out. I wanted something I could pick up again and again for years,” Basile says. “That’s how my black V-neck shirt came to life.”
Basile collaborated with fashion illustrators in Los Angeles and spent months meticulously going over design, fabric, fit and more before landing on The First V-Neck Tee, her flagship design. That shirt, along with an entire line of high-quality fashionable “closet basics” meant
to last, is now available at scoutcouture.com and at pop-up events.
Scout Couture specializes in key pieces that can be worn across demographics, seasons and styles. “I like to think of pieces that are timeless,” says Basile. “They should live in your closet for the rest of your life. They should be the pieces you can grab-and-go no matter what. You can dress it up. You can dress it down. Wear it to work during the day, take it out at night.”
In addition to Basile’s own designs, the website also features Scouts Curation, a shop where limited items are handpicked to help customers tell their own story. At Scout Couture, every piece is chosen to empower women, giving them the freedom to focus on their lives – because their wardrobe is already covered. For Scouts
Collaboration, Basile created a sweater collection with East Coast designer Ellsworth & Ivey.
As a slow fashion business focusing on quality and longevity, Scout Couture is creating sustainable solutions for the fashion industry. “So much of the fashion today is you wear it, you wash it, it gets worn down, and pretty soon you get rid of it and buy something else,” says Basile. “From a sustainability standpoint, we’re creating products that will truly last. You should be able to ball it up, beat it up and then wear it just as well as you did the other day.”

University Lake School FACE OF COLLEGE PREP
ON A PICTURESQUE 180 - ACRE CAMPUS IN LAKE COUNTRY, University Lake School offers highly individualized and ambitious college counseling that lays the foundation for lifelong success for its students.
“Our school believes in a balance between academics, leadership, service and extracurriculars – it’s all important,” says Allie Reeder, the director of college counseling at ULS. “The individual is really valued here. Not only do we know our students, but our students know themselves.”
Head of School John Dewis speaks to the small-by-design philosophy.
“For three-quarters of a century, this has been the story for some 30 lucky ULS graduates. That’s our senior class – there’s no hiding. We are small and selective and punch way above our weight in just about
every arena: athletic, artistic, literary, STEM and academic ambition. We are also, and more importantly, people of great heart.”
Each ULS classroom is designed to provide time for students to challenge themselves and develop their skills and interests. By the time seniors apply to college, they can speak authentically to their strengths, ambitions and passions. “Our students have spent years stepping outside of their comfort zones to figure out who they are, who they want to be, and what they need to do to get there,” Reeder says.
Before, during and after the application process, Reeder counsels students, having candid conversations about their goals and nonnegotiables. She keeps abreast of opportunities by touring colleges with students, hosting community education events, inviting admissions

representatives to the school, researching the latest news and data in higher education, connecting with other counselors, and pursuing professional development, all of which leads back to the student.
ULS’ 2025 graduating class earned 86 acceptances (an average of about five per student) to 61 colleges and universities across 18 states, in addition to a collective $4.8 million in merit scholarships. They will pursue a variety of majors, from game design to pre-law to software engineering, and many have already gotten involved on their new campuses. “One of our graduates will play Division III soccer next year, another has made the university’s dance team and multiple students are enrolled in the honors colleges at their respective institutions,” Reeder says.
Over the school’s 70-year history, alumni frequently return to campus, citing their time at ULS as the catalyst for their passions and successes. “The best colleges are lucky to land our students in their freshmen class each year, and we are forever proud of their success,” Dewis says.
DIANA YUSUFOV began doing cosmetic tattooing and permanent makeup in 2016, when the new beauty practice was just starting to grow in Milwaukee. She had already spent years in the esthetics industry and felt ready to take a leap into owning her own business by founding GÄDIS Beauty. Eight-plus years later, GÄDIS Beauty now offers an array of beauty services, including cosmetic tattooing, eyebrows and lip blushing, fine line tattoos, areola restoration, facials and now a state-of-the-art laser for tattoo removal.
The work Yusufov and her team of eight perform is beyond skin deep. Services like areola restoration tattooing help cancer survivors who have mastectomies feel like themselves again. Brow tattooing (also known as microblading, nano brows or powder brows) helps bring balance and brightness to the face that boosts confidence. Yusufov’s goal is for clients to leave feeling self-assured.
GÄDIS Beauty recently added a new service to their portfolio – the PICO laser. It’s a state-of-the-art tattoo removal laser that requires
fewer treatment sessions. “I think this is such a great service that we’re going to be able to offer now to our clients who want their old tattoos and previous microbladed brows removed,” says Yusufov. “Fewer sessions equals less pain. It’s the best technology we have that helps transform a procedure that is known to be really painful and intense.”
GÄDIS also provides skin care, waxing and threading, spray tans and many more beauty services.
“Such a small thing can bring you confidence – it can really be life-changing,” says Yusufov. “We love when clients come back and tell us, ‘This really did make me feel so much better.’ That’s our goal.”

FLOOR360 FACE OF DESIGNER FLOORING
FOR OVER 25 YEARS, FLOOR360’s team of expert designers have helped over 12,000 customers find their ideal custom flooring solutions. They have installed more floors in new Wisconsin homes than any other flooring company.
The business carries over 750 product lines of carpeting and carpet tile, luxury vinyl plank, ceramic, porcelain, terra cotta and zellige tile, marble, stone, hardwood and laminate. With so many choices, FLOOR360’s team of experts helps customers find flooring solutions that fit their space and their needs.
“People are usually overwhelmed with the choices in flooring for their home and often don’t know where to start,” says Kelly Kuehn, FLOOR360’s Milwaukee manager. “FLOOR360 has a superior customer service process
that begins with questions for homeowners like defining your design style, color palette, lifestyle and room function. It’s followed by a one-on-one consultation with a professional interior designer that is results-oriented, fun and removes decision stress.”
One recent standout project was at the historic Madcap Lounge. The FLOOR360 team installed custom area rugs and stair runners. Their in-house carpet fabrication specialist custom-cut the carpeting and added border details. Then, the team of craftsmen installation specialists installed the carpet, bringing the space to life.
“The tropical carpeting is a standout feature that’s unique to the Madcap Lounge and memorable for anyone who spends time
there,” says Kuehn. “The same team can bring that level of skill and craftsmanship to create a unique signature custom carpet feature for your own home, too.”
This year, the FLOOR360 team is expanding, aiming to help customers find personalized solutions throughout the whole home. They are adding cabinetry, countertops and window coverings for apartment buildings, and they expect to roll out those offerings to the residential market in Milwaukee very soon.

Milwaukee Riverkeeper FACE OF WATER PROTECTION
THIRTY YEARS AGO, THE FRIENDS OF the Menomonee River started as a small group of neighbors and volunteers who wanted to clean a stretch of the Menomonee River on the West Side of the city. This close-knit group quickly grew, as did its mission to protect and preserve Milwaukee’s freshwater resources, and with that growth came a new name: Milwaukee Riverkeeper.
Today, Milwaukee Riverkeeper is part of Waterkeeper Alliance, an international coalition of waterkeepers around the world. The organization monitors, protects and restores about 900 miles of the Milwaukee River Basin through seven different counties. That’s possible thanks to the work of the
Milwaukee Riverkeeper team and its crew of over 5,000 volunteers.
Milwaukee Riverkeeper’s Earth Day river cleanup attracts thousands of volunteers each year. But in addition to that popular event, the organization protects waterways in dozens of other ways.
A core tenet of Milwaukee Riverkeeper’s work is water monitoring. Every month, around 100 volunteers collect samples along the rural, urban, suburban and agricultural parts of the river. Samples are sent to the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene, and the resulting information is put into the Department of Natural Resources database to be used for further research.
“We’re a science-based advocacy organization,” says Jennifer Bolger Breceda, the executive director. “Being able to work on policy and advocate for the river, waterways and our community at large is crucial – but so is engaging the community. The more the community knows about its waters, the more they can participate in restoring and protecting them.” This year, Milwaukee Riverkeeper will mark 30 years with a celebration at The Ivy House on Oct. 9. Tickets are available on Milwaukee Riverkeeper’s website.

Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21 FACE OF A THRIVING DOWNTOWN MILWAUKEE
OVER THE PAST 30 YEARS, Downtown Milwaukee has seen new construction, new housing, new events, new public art and a growing sense of pride. At the nexus of all that development and growth is Milwaukee Downtown, Business Improvement District #21.
Founded in the late ’90s, the Downtown BID connects businesses, residents, investors and more to promote and grow a clean, safe, welcoming Downtown. It attracts businesses and development; operates Public Service Ambassador, Clean Sweep and landscaping programs; supports Milwaukee County’s homeless outreach efforts to help the unsheltered find housing and support services; funds public art installations and murals; hosts events like Downtown Dining Week, Employee Appreciation Week and the Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival; and showcases all the dining,
entertainment and more that Downtown has to offer.
“Downtown Milwaukee is the social, cultural and economic hub of the state of Wisconsin,” says Matt Dorner, Milwaukee Downtown’s new CEO. “We have strong business and civic leadership, and world-class employers and cultural institutions that really make Milwaukee an amazing city and Downtown a thriving neighborhood.”
Dorner, who served as Milwaukee Downtown’s economic development director for the past decade, took over as CEO in June from Beth Weirick, who led the organization for nearly 30 years. “Working closely with Beth, I’ve learned so much from her and seen firsthand the impact the organization has had on quality of life, economic development, public spaces and more,” Dorner says. “I’m excited to continue that upward trajectory for Downtown.”
From left:
LAPPEN
Recent years have seen Downtown land major employers like Milwaukee Tool, Fiserv and Enerpac, to name just a few. Newer developments such as BMO Tower, the Baird Center expansion, Downtown’s first dog park, and thousands of apartments are transforming Downtown. Dorner is looking forward to other catalytic developments in the years ahead. Northwestern Mutual is investing $500 million to modernize its North Office Building and welcome 2,000 additional employees Downtown. The Milwaukee Public Museum will soon be moving to its new location, where it will be named the Nature & Culture Museum of Wisconsin. Plus, new hotel and residential developments are on the docket, Downtown’s food and beverage scene is evolving with new offerings, and investments in streets and public spaces are planned.
“Downtown’s recent wins, combined with our natural and built environment, make this a place where people want to be,” Dorner says. “People live Downtown, they work Downtown, and they visit Downtown. It’s a vibrant neighborhood, and we’re continuing to help drive its growth, attract new employers and investment, improve our public spaces and make Milwaukee one of the best downtowns in the country.”

Nelson, Krueger & Millenbach
FACE OF FAMILY LAW
SINCE ITS FOUNDING IN 1997, Nelson, Krueger & Millenbach, LLC has become one of the area’s most trusted boutique family law firms. At the heart of the firm is a six-woman team dedicated to easing many of life’s most difficult moments, including divorce, child custody and support paternity matters, domestic violence and more.
Co-founded by attorney Teri Nelson, the firm has been in its current existence for nearly 20 years. “My goal when establishing this firm was to provide experienced and compassionate representation in the family law field,” says Nelson. Attorneys Rebecca Millenbach and Alison Krueger partnered with Nelson in 2006. Partner Aislinn Penkwitz joined the group in 2015. More recently, the accomplished
team has also welcomed attorneys Amy Fry-Galow and Heidi Nepscha.
Though the partners’ paths to family law differed, all four discovered the same thing – that this area of law allowed them to combine negotiation, creative problem-solving and legal expertise in a way that could bring cooperation and compassion to often fraught situations.
“When dealing with divorce and custody cases, it’s hard to feel like there’s a true ‘win,’” says Millenbach. “The most successful cases are the ones where we can help our clients have a big say in the outcome, like through mediation or settlement conferences. We work to make sure our clients and their families walk away informed, supported and equipped to start their next chapter.”
The firm’s success lies not just in its individual talents but in its unified approach to family law. “We all enjoy problem-solving,” Krueger says. “I approach cases with a mindset of resolution, but I’m always preparing in the background for trial.” That dual focus – collaboration and preparation for litigation – is central to how the firm supports clients through one of the most difficult times in their lives.
The team’s efforts have merited multiple recognitions and awards. Each partner in the firm has been nationally recognized as a Super Lawyer. Krueger and Millenbach are fellows in the American of Matrimonial Lawyers, and Millenbach is also a fellow in the International Academy of Family Lawyers. And recently, Krueger has been invited to teach future
judges at the Judicial College.
“We are stronger individually because we are together,” says Penkwitz. “We could not be as dynamic, knowledgeable or successful if we didn’t have this strong group of attorneys collaborating and supporting one another.”

BILTRITE Furniture - Leather - Mattresses
FACE OF THE BEST FURNITURE AND MATTRESS STORE
BILTRITE FURNITURE - LEATHER - MATTRESSES is 97 years old, four generations strong and celebrating 19 years in its one Greenfield location.
BILTRITE was named Retailer of the Year 2023 by the Home Furnishings Association, the first and only retailer in Wisconsin to ever receive this national honor. “BILTRITE has sought to improve and elevate how they do business,” the HFA said in a statement. “They always come away with new ways to up their game. So, it’s no surprise that their attention to their customers and their community has garnered BILTRITE this honor.” The winner was selected by a panel of home industry professionals who judged nominees based on customer experience, company culture, social responsibility, innovation, adaptability, industry contribution, marketing and achievements.
“We are very honored and humbled,” said Randi Komisar Schachter, a fourth-generation family member at BILTRITE. “We have come a long way since 1928 and look forward to continuing to be a locally and family-owned metro Milwaukee-area institution.”
BILTRITE, which started out of a small storefront on Third and Garfield nearly a century ago, now boasts a 45,000-square-foot showroom in Greenfield, where it keeps thousands of items in stock, including affordable, better-quality furniture and mattresses, specializing in USA-made and Amish-made as well as hard to find flippable, two-sided mattresses and a large selection of small-scale furniture. BILTRITE also offers special and custom furniture and beats designer showrooms, national chains and online retailers and offers free in-store design services. Check out the
amazing line of accessories, artwork, lamps, poufs and rugs.
The retailer, which also won Milwaukee Magazine’s Best of the Burbs Readers’ Choice poll for best furniture/home goods store and Best of Milwaukee for furniture store, remains the largest locally and family-owned furniture and mattress store in Wisconsin. “We care about each and every one of our customers,” Randi says. “We do what we do because we have a love and a passion for it. We want our customers to have the best experience possible when they come to BILTRITE.”
MATC IS THE REGION’S leading workforce development college, equipping over 30,000 students every year in more than 180 programs with the skills and expertise needed for today’s changing workforce. It’s also the most diverse higher education institution in the state.
“Our vision is to be the best choice in education, where everyone can succeed and every student feels welcome,” says Anthony Cruz, MATC’s president. “And we have the support in place that allows every single student to succeed.”
Such is the case for Ankur Kaushal and Hallee Tretow, two students with completely different career paths who developed the skills and the knowledge they needed inside MATC classrooms.
Tretow is a welder who graduated in May with an associate degree in Welding Technology.
While completing her degree, she worked full time at Wisconsin Stamping & Manufacturing in Germantown and is now part of the less than 8% of welders who are women.
“The amount of career opportunities really expands when you get that extra schooling,” says Tretow. “Demand for welders is very high, and job security is a big thing for me.”
Kaushal was student speaker for MATC’s 2024 winter commencement after he graduated with his Associate of Science degree and a 4.0 grade point average. He had only arrived in the United States a year prior, after studying at the Punjab State Aeronautical Engineering College in India. After taking an anatomy and physiology class, he changed his path.
“It was very interesting to learn how everything works in the body. It’s a marvelous
piece of engineering, and the parts all work together as one. I was hooked,” Kaushal says.
Kaushal is now earning his bachelor’s degree in nursing and pharmacy and then will move on to medical school.
“With 91% of students staying right here in Wisconsin, MATC plays a critical role in sustaining the local economy by preparing future engineers, health care professionals, technology experts, hospitality professionals and more,” says Cruz. “Without students like Ankur and Hallee, businesses struggle to find qualified workers, and the city’s growth and momentum can fall behind.”

FACE OF SMALL BUSINESS BANKING
WAUKESHA STATE BANK OFFERS SMALL businesses across Southeastern Wisconsin a personalized, relationship-driven approach to banking. With seasoned bankers driven by an ongoing commitment to the local business community and backed by a full suite of banking tools, Waukesha State Bank helps small businesses foster growth and manage finances.
“Our relationship-based approach pairs each small business with a dedicated banker who genuinely cares about their long-term successes, not just their banking needs,” says Tony Laszewski, senior vice president and commercial banking
manager. “While we lead with banking, over time the nature of the close relationship often evolves into serving as a sounding board, informal advisor and connector, linking our clients to professionals and resources that help them grow and solve real-world problems.”
From business checking and savings accounts to lending solutions like working capital lines of credit, equipment term loans, real estate construction and term, and even tax-exempt and tax credit financing, the bank supports clients at every stage of their business journey. Treasury management tools including
ACH origination, sweep accounts and fraud protection services like Positive Pay, add additional convenience and peace of mind.
“At every stage, we believe it’s our responsibility to clearly explain our thinking to ensure that our recommendations and decisions are transparent, not opaque or confusing,” says Laszewski. “Good communication is key to building trust and helping entrepreneurs make informed choices.”
Every business client is paired with a dedicated banker who serves as a trusted advisor, offering tailored financial guidance,

connections to local resources like SCORE Business Mentoring and the Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative. They also make introductions to trusted professionals from other industries like CPAs or attorneys.
WSB is also one of Wisconsin’s most active Small Business Administration lenders and has held Preferred Lender Program status since 1999, enabling faster, in-house approvals. For smaller loans, the bank also participates in the Milwaukee Economic Development Corp.’s Capital Access Program, offering a streamlined path for businesses seeking creative yet practical funding.
One of Waukesha State Bank’s newest offerings is the Payroll + 401(k) product, an integrated solution that combines payroll processing with retirement plan management. This tool helps business owners streamline two essential functions: reducing costly errors, and attracting
and retaining high-quality talent. The product also includes local, in-person mentoring from both payroll and retirement
professionals – something national providers often lack.
“As larger institutions have shifted to more efficiency-driven service models which can seem compartmentalized and impersonal, it’s become harder for small-business owners to find someone who truly understands their business and the challenges they face,” says Laszewski. “That’s where we strive to stand apart.”
Smart Moves FACE OF SENIOR & SPECIALTY MOVE MANAGERS
FOR DECADES, Smart Moves has provided sorting, packing, moving, unpacking and organizing services for seniors transitioning homes – and for anyone who could use expert guidance during a move.
There’s always an emotional aspect to moving, especially for those who have spent decades in their homes. Smart Moves’ approach is twofold: combine logistical expertise with empathetic service.
Karen Carlson reached out to Smart Moves with a difficult and particular task. Her mom had passed a few years earlier, and her dad
was developing mobility challenges. It was getting harder and harder for him to live independently. Neither her dad’s home nor her own could house Carlson’s father as well as herself, her husband and her child. So they decided to all pack up and make a new home together.
That meant two big, simultaneous operations: her dad leaving his home, and her family leaving theirs. And timing was tight. Her father’s house sold quickly, and they needed to make the move so the new owners could take occupancy.
Carlson and her husband are both physicians and didn’t have a lot of flexibility or time to make this move. In the matter of one week (her son’s spring break), they had to make this whole transition happen. The logistics of it all were overwhelming.
“I got in touch with Smart Moves last-minute, and they were just amazing,” says Carlson. “Leigh Anne [Spears, a certified move manager] walked through everything with me and my dad. I realized they could make the whole move possible.” Spears went through the homes, getting

everything set up for estate purchasers. She helped Carlson’s dad through the often emotional decluttering process: finding what furniture will fit, what needs to go, and how to say goodbye to items that hold memories. She then did the same thing for Carlson and her family.
“She helped us figure out the things that we loved but really wouldn’t work in the new space,” says Carlson. “She helped us find a balance in things that came from my mom and dad’s home and things that came from our home. Now our new place really feels
like a combined space, not just one person moving in with the other.”
The move was seamless. Smart Moves –members of the National Association of Senior & Specialty Move Managers – organized and packed both homes. They coordinated the move to ensure everyone was out and the homes were cleaned in time for the new owners to move in. The Smart Moves team then unpacked everything, hung art, organized items and set up rooms in the new house. By the end of the week, Carlson and her family were settling into their new space.
“Somehow, magically, they made this all happen,” says Carlson. “We were set and living without boxes by the end of that week. Truly moved in, living in the new home with no debris and no boxes. Closets by Design FACE OF CLOSETS
MILWAUKEE’S CLOSETS BY DESIGN IS a leader in custom storage solutions, serving customers throughout Southeastern Wisconsin. Launched in 2019 by Doug and Cindy Gauert, the company has garnered a reputation for customer service that is woven into every step, from the first inquiry to consultation, design and installation.
Closets by Design’s offerings span a wide range of custom storage solutions including walk-in closets, home offices, garages, pantries, laundry rooms and more. The personalized solutions, like pull-out hampers, stow-away ironing boards, jewelry trays and lighting, integrate functionality into the design.
At the heart of their success is a unique
approach: bringing the design process directly into the client’s home. Designers come to the consultation equipped with the tools needed to create a space that fulfills the homeowner’s wish list and honors their budget.
“We meet with the homeowner, go through their vision, design it on-site and price it out right then and there,” says Doug, owner and president of Closets by Design. “It saves a lot of time and helps the clients immediately visualize the new space. We make adjustments and changes right on the spot.”
All the furnishings and decor are produced in-shop by the Closets by Design team and installed by employees, not subcontractors.
The installation team provides a personal touch to every project that sets them apart from the competition.
Closets by Design started with just the Gauert family and now boasts a team of nearly 50.
“Customer service is a very, very high focus for us,” says Doug. “From the time that the homeowner calls in to our office, we’re working to give them the best experience possible.”

Spargo FACE OF LAKE COUNTRY MEDISPAS
THIS YEAR, SPARGO IS CELEBRATING 25 YEARS AS LAKE COUNTRY’S premier salon, spa and medispa. Since opening in 2000, Spargo’s team of skilled providers has been focused on delivering exceptional, tailored experiences for every client. Over the years, the business has grown significantly, including the addition of its Medispa three years ago.
Spargo Salon, Spa & MediSpa offers an extensive menu of services, combining beauty, wellness and advanced aesthetics under one roof. Guests can enjoy everything from massages, facials, nails, hair, and makeup services to advanced treatments like Botox, laser hair removal, laser skin rejuvenation and IV therapy. The salon is also a go-to destination for styling for special events including weddings and other formal occasions.
“We’re essentially a one-stop shop for all things beauty and wellness,” says Laura Chapman, Spargo’s co-owner. “Whether you want salon services, spa services or the latest in medispa beauty treatments, we
can do it – and we’re going to do it at an excellent standard.”
When you walk into Spargo, the atmosphere is warm and comfortable.

MADISON MEDICAL AFFILIATES OFFERS A DIFFERENT KIND of health care. While many of the massive, national providers continue to expand, Madison Medical focuses on the local. With 60 physicians and 11 locations in Southeastern Wisconsin, the organization offers a boutique approach. That means doctors and nurses who know you, services that are a step above, and a human touch.
“The health care industry is getting really big – and the consequence of that is it’s less local, less personal,” says Brian Meuler, Madison Medical’s executive director. “At big-box health care organizations,
the person who handles your bill, for example, could be part of a big remote team that might not even be in the same country as you, much less the same state. We pride ourselves on being here and offering thoughtful service. When you call us, a person will answer the phone.”
Madison Medical dates to 1903, when Dr. J.D. Madison opened his first clinic in Milwaukee. What started as a small practice has grown to encompass 11 different specialties including internal medicine, eye care, endocrinology, obstetrics and gynecology, urology, surgery and more.
“We offer a comprehensive set of services for our patients,” says Dr.

James Volberding, the president of Madison Medical Affiliates. “We’re a one-stop shop for our patients. We’ve seen industry trends in health care, and we’re really trying to buck that and offer something that’s a step above.”
With locations ranging from Downtown Milwaukee to Waukesha to Mequon, Madison Medical’s team of physicians and primary care doctors have a long and established history of excellence, including nearly all being recognized by their peers in Milwaukee Magazine’s Top Doctors listing. “There’s a lot that makes Madison Medical different,
but it starts with our people,” says Volberding. “It’s our physicians, our advanced practice providers, our nurse practitioners, our physical therapists and our clinical support staff. They’re the best in their field. And ultimately that’s why patients choose us.”
Hunger Task Force
FACE OF ENDING HUNGER
ABOUT ONE IN SIX PEOPLE IN MILWAUKEE are living in poverty. That means there are thousands of parents, seniors and veterans struggling to put food on the table for themselves, their kids and their families.
Hunger Task Force ensures that everyone has access to healthy food with dignity, on the day they need it and in the neighborhood they live in. The nonprofit is Milwaukee’s free & local food bank, uniquely providing all food free of charge to the local programs it supports.
“We believe that ending hunger is truly possible through community collaboration. Wisconsinites are the type of people who care enough to help the most vulnerable among us – and that is our greatest strength,” says Matt King, CEO of Hunger Task Force.
Hunger Task Force serves an average of 50,000 people every month at nearly 200 access points in Milwaukee County and beyond. About 30,000 visit the organization’s partner food pantries and meal programs across Milwaukee County to receive healthy and culturally responsive food. And over 10,000 low-income seniors receive monthly Stockboxes – a box of supplementary food distributed at senior centers and directly to the homes of low-income seniors. The organization distributes over 10 million pounds of free food every year.
Hunger Task Force also operates a 208-acre farm in Franklin. The farm is nationally recognized for providing healthy, locally grown produce to hungry people in Wisconsin. The farmers cultivate over 70 varieties of 28 different crops, ensuring a well-rounded selection for
those in need. The farm harvests over half a million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables. In addition to its food bank and farm, Hunger Task Force also operates a Mobile Market. This “grocery store on wheels” travels throughout Milwaukee County to food deserts, which are areas that lack affordable access to healthy foods. The Mobile Market is stocked with fresh, healthy food that’s sold at a discounted rate. It serves nearly 15,000 people every year, including many seniors.
Hunger Task Force’s mission is more critical now than ever. Over the past year, Hunger Task Force has seen visits to its network of food pantries increase by 35% as rising housing costs and inflation put strain on household budgets. The organization continues to rely on community donations to meet that growing need. Hunger Task Force uses donated funds to buy food, make deliveries and operate its farm and mobile market. You can find opportunities to donate and support Hunger Task Force’s mission on hungertaskforce.org
“We are 100% community-supported,” says King. “Everything we do is possible through the leadership of our donors. Their support allows us to continue the fight to end hunger.”

Avery and Birch FACE OF ELEVATED BEAUTY STUDIOS
FOUNDED BY JENNIFER JANSSEN, a longtime business owner, makeup artist and aesthetician, Avery and Birch opened its doors in August 2023 with a clear mission: to create an elevated, welcoming business rental space for beauty professionals, by beauty professionals. In less than two years, the studio has blossomed into one of the region’s most stylish, community-focused beauty hubs. Now, with growth on the horizon, Avery and Birch is setting the standard for what modern beauty studios can be.
Janssen’s journey began over a decade ago in Milwaukee’s bustling wedding and production makeup scene. Despite her success, she struggled to find a studio space that reflected the level of professionalism, warmth and style she desired. That challenge became the seed of inspiration. With the support of her husband, Ryan, whose background in real estate and construction proved invaluable, the duo set out to build the ideal studio space from the ground
up. The final piece of the puzzle came when Janssen partnered with her sister, Delanie Ford, an experienced business owner with a dynamic background in marketing, brand development and operations. Together, they brought the vision of Avery and Birch to life in the city of Greenfield – creating not just a space but a movement.
The woman-owned and -operated, threestory space was designed specifically for beauty professionals who are tired of impersonal franchise settings. “Everyone who walks in says it ’s the most gorgeous salon they’ve seen,” says Janssen. The personalized design, paired with the team’s hands-on presence, ensures that the beauty professionals who lease their space feel supported.
Avery and Birch’s studios are thoughtfully curated, and all include exterior windows (a rare luxury in salon suites). Features like a shared color processing room, a coffee bar
and stylish lounge areas help create a lively, vibrant and bright environment for beauty professionals and their clients. With its first location thriving, Avery and Birch is now preparing to break ground on a new location in Brookfield, an open-concept ranch building filled with natural light.
“We’ve always been big thinkers,” says Janssen. “It’s not just about beauty – it’s about connection, creativity and a place where professionals and clients alike are empowered to thrive. Avery and Birch isn’t just about leasing studios – it’s about elevating the standard for beauty professionals. We’ve built a vibrant, inspiring community.”

Four Leaf Roofing and Windows FACE OF ROOFING
FOUR LEAF ROOFING & WINDOWS, a veteran-owned business founded by brothers Joseph and Nate O’Brien, has been a cornerstone of the region’s home improvement scene for 30 years.
The team’s commitment to quality craftsmanship is rooted in their history in the trades. Since they were teenagers, Joe and Nate have worked in different construction roles, gaining the skills and insights needed to lay the foundation of their renowned business.
What sets Four Leaf apart is their innovative 3D rendering technology. Unlike many competitors, Four Leaf offers personalized digital mockups that allow clients to visualize their home’s transformation before any work begins. Customers can experiment with different roofing, gutter, siding and window options in multiple styles, colors and brands, tweaking until the result aligns perfectly with their vision, budget and timeline.
“Absolutely amazing work,” says a recent customer. “From the initial consultation to the final touches, the team was attentive and responsive and delivered exactly what we wanted. Would not hesitate to hire them again for future projects.”
From emergency roofing repairs to total exterior home makeovers, Four Leaf has become known for their prompt communication, stellar service and one-of-a-kind solutions that has resulted in hundreds of happy customers through the years.
“We know that a roof or new windows is likely one of the biggest purchases a customer is making for their home, and we respect that,” says Joe. “We offer financing options for all our customers. They can enter their address on our website and receive an estimate, and then we’ll follow up with a physical inspection. We want to educate them about their options and help them make the right decision.”

Bruce’s Team FACE OF SENIOR TRANSITIONS
OVER 40 YEARS AGO, BRUCE NEMOVITZ spoke to a group of seniors considering leaving their longtime family home for a new space better fit to their age and lifestyle. The real estate agent saw a way he could help older adults and their families during this life-changing transition, and the conversation kicked off a decades-long career helping seniors find their new homes.
Today Nemovitz, the founder of Bruce’s Team, has worked with over 3,000 seniors.
Whether it’s a smaller space, a senior living community, or just relocating to a warmer part of the country, Bruce and his team demystify the buying and selling process and create a seamless moving experience while treating every family with the care and compassion they deserve during an emotionally challenging time. They collaborate with downsizing companies,
home contractors and elder law attorneys to streamline every step of the way.
“During COVID, many people who would have moved were staying put,” says Nemovitz. “We are seeing that many of them have finally decided it’s time to either cash in on the incredible appreciation of their home or are considering moving for health reasons.”
Data from Bruce’s Team surveys have shown that the primary hesitation seniors face when thinking about making a big move is the fear of change. “It can paralyze decision-making to the point where people put off this decision for years,” says Nemovitz.
Bruce’s Team helps clients move past that fear through education. “People come to us because the process is too overwhelming,” says Nemovitz. “We share information
about finding the right community, all the benefits they can tap into and how to get there financially. I have found that nearly every client we move comes back to tell us they should have done it sooner.”
The team stands by their tagline, “Taking You From Overwhelmed to ʻI Can Do This!®’” through every step of the moving and downsizing process and has been awarded the honor of the Better Business Bureau Torch Award for its culture of trust, integrity, compassion and exceptional customer service.

AS GREENFIELD VETERINARY CLINIC approaches its milestone 50th anniversary next year, the family-owned practice continues to grow. But the team’s deep-rooted commitment to personal care remains the same.
“We are an AAHA-approved hospital, and we believe that all pets deserve the highest quality of care,” says Parvin Work, the hospital administrator at Greenfield Veterinary Clinic. “We enjoy long-term relationships with both our clients and our staff. We see a lot of families
in our practice that have been trusting us with their pets for three and four generations now.”
Since last year, the clinic has seen the addition of a new doctor, Dr. Claire Rojohn, who brings decades of veterinary experience to the practice. Greenfield Veterinary Clinic is planning to add another doctor this year, who will be supported by a team of 18 staff members including technicians, technician assistants and client service representatives.
The clinic is undergoing upgrades to
accommodate its growth. Plans are underway for another new building addition, an expanded parking lot and the addition of an exam room to create more patient space. “We’re still moving ahead,” says Work. “It’s an exciting time.”
Greenfield Veterinary Clinic’s philosophy is that every patient deserves personal attention.
“We take the time that is needed for each client and patient,” says Dr. James Work, owner of Greenfield Veterinary Clinic. “Our doctors and staff truly care. We work to ensure that our

atmosphere is friendly and personal.”
On the technology front, Greenfield Veterinary Clinic leads with cutting-edge capabilities. The clinic features a complete in-house laboratory, digital X-ray and dental imaging, therapeutic and surgical lasers, and a human-grade ultrasound machine, ensuring animals receive the best possible care.
They also offer endoscopy and have a thermographic camera, EKG and state-ofthe-art anesthetic equipment in their surgical
suite. A brand-new cytology machine was just added to the laboratory, enhancing the teams diagnostic speed and accuracy.
Greenfield Veterinary Clinic continues to be a well-respected leader in its field. The clinic has previously earned the Journal Sentinel ’s Top Choice Award for Best Veterinary Clinic three times, and is a top-three finalist once again this year.
“Our five doctors have a combined experience of over a century,” says Parvin Work.
“That deep experience and insight allows us to provide exceptional care with a personal touch.”
With five decades on the near horizon, Greenfield Veterinary Clinic continues to be one of the region’s most trusted names in veterinary care.

Illume Cosmetic Surgery & MedSpa
FACE OF COSMETIC SURGERY
ILLUME COSMETIC SURGERY & MEDSPA, established in 2019 by Dr. Chris Hussussian, Dr. Mark Blake, and Dr. Tom Korkos, has rapidly expanded its footprint in the region, solidifying its position as the largest local cosmetic surgery and medspa provider. The practice is opening access for patients looking for top-tier cosmetic procedures in Wisconsin.
In September, Illume opened its Menomonee Falls office, which became the practice’s fourth
new location in five years. It offers a range of services including a variety of body and facial cosmetic surgery procedures and a full-service medspa.
One of the challenges Illume aims to address is the misconception that high-quality plastic surgery requires travel out-of-state, or even overseas.
Gone are the days where you have to book a flight, hotel and care package to receive
care from a trusted physician. For patients, receiving medical care nearby is not only more convenient for travel, but it’s imperative for follow-ups and aftercare. Illume’s team of expert board-certified plastic surgeons will provide patient-focused care with incredible results, right here.
Illume’s physicians stay atop developing best practices, techniques and technologies that result in world-class results for their

patients. Illume offers the full range of aesthetic services, from breast augmentations and hair restorations performed at their nationally accredited in-house surgical centers to Botox, facials and medical weight loss.
Newly popular procedures like blepharoplasties – surgeries to remove extra skin on the upper or lower eyelid – result in a rested, refreshed and youthful look. And the quick “lip flip” addresses gummy smiles.
A significant part of Illume’s growth strategy is its expansion of their team of board-certified plastic surgeons. Last year, Dr. Lucas M. Boehm joined the Illume practice in its new Menomonee Falls location, specializing in rhinoplasty and deep-plane face lifting. This month, Illume welcomed its newest esteemed surgeon, Dr. Kayla Adkins.
With plans for further growth and a continuing commitment to excellence, Illume Cosmetic
Surgery & MedSpa remains at the forefront of delivering exceptional aesthetic treatments and care in the greater Milwaukee area.
