Centre Update We Missed You!

Hello fall, we’ve been waiting for you! The past spring and summer has been an interesting time for all of us. We’ve had to all adapt to an incredible change and lessen our usual routines with activities, family, friends and more. We’ve definitely missed everyone at the Centre and we are looking forward to opening with modified hours. Our fall session will not be the same as in the past, however one thing’s for certain we still have great members, participants, volunteers and staff!

Over the months as the Centre was closed, we introduced the Friendly Calls program. Over 70 older adults received check-in calls from volunteers and staff. A special thank you to those who made those calls and connections. We really appreciate you taking the time to help our members. You are one of a kind!

During this time, we also introduced our Senior Centre Without Walls program. Activities included trivia, an introduction to Zoom and occasional guest speakers. While many were eager to wait until the Centre opened, a special thank you to our members who participated and made this experience rewarding for all.

As we open the doors for the fall session, you will see many changes. Staff have developed a comprehensive plan to keep all who enter the facility safe. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 and provincial guidelines, we will not be able to resume all programs at this time.

The safety of all participants and staff is and will always remain our number one priority.

The Centre will be open Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with modified hours. The Centre will be open for registered programs.

Individuals who are not participating in scheduled registered programs are encouraged to call the Centre first rather than visiting. From this call, staff will provide the assistance required and make a scheduled appointment if needed.

At this time, we are pleased to welcome back programs such as Yoga, Tai Chi, Zumba and various fitness and dance classes. All of these programs require preregistration including Line Dancing.

On Wednesday, August 19th, the Town launched a new recreation software that we hope you will find both convenient and easy to use. Perfect Mind will be replacing the Town’s current software used for recreation program registration.

What Can You Expect When You Come Back?

• All participants and staff will be required to wear a non-medical mask unless due to health conditions they are not able to. For fitness programs, you will not be required to wear a mask once the class has commenced.

• Reduced program sizes to ensure at a minimum, a 2-metre distance between participants.

• Participants are encouraged to wait either in a vehicle or physically distanced outside before their activity. Wearing a face covering is highly recommended for those waiting in line to enter the facility. Individuals must follow the orange lines along the pathway when entering the Centre.

• We’ve staggered program times to allow for an uncongested entrance to the facility and Reception Desk. You may have to wait outside for a few minutes, so please dress accordingly.

• You will only be able to enter 5 – 10 minutes prior to the start of the program and are asked to leave immediately following the program.

• Inside the Centre floor markings, such as signage and indicators will be used to visualize boundaries and to encourage physical distancing.

• Participants are asked to arrive prepared and in appropriate attire to begin their activity and limit exposure to others in common areas, such as restrooms.

• Hand sanitizer is located at Centre program room entrances and exits. Participants are encouraged to use these stations.

• Once your program ends, you will be asked to leave through the exit doors within the room your program is held in (unless otherwise noted.)

• No sharing of program equipment. Please bring your own mat for fitness programs if required.

• You will have to register for programs. This can be completed on-line or for those who do not have a computer, please contact Shannon at 905-878-7252 x 2755. Remember to dial in the 4 digit extension.

• Debit or credit is the preferred method of payment for in person transactions at this time.

• Coffee/tea and meal service will not be offered until further notice. The cafeteria will remain closed. Sorry folks – you’ll have to bring your own beverage!

• The lounge is closed. We are not accepting any book or puzzle donations or are able to loan these items out.

• All hallway furniture has been removed. There is no seating and/or waiting areas available at this time.

• Restroom capacity – Main level - 2 individuals at one time, Lower level – 1 individual at one time.

• The Centre is unable to run all programs at this time. As many programs have shared equipment or an inability to socially distance. Staff will continue to monitor the guidelines and slowly welcome these programs when possible.

• Enhanced cleaning protocols will be followed. Program equipment and rooms will be cleaned and sanitized.

• All staff will have been trained on updated standard operating procedures that relate to COVID-19, the new work environment and protection of staff and participants.

We kindly remind you to check your registration receipt for updates, notices posted in the Centre or voice messages when personal calls are made to participants.

Program and Event Cancellations

Programs and special events are cancelled when minimum registration numbers are not met.

Non-resident Program Fees

A surcharge fee of 10% per person, per program, up to a maximum of $12 per person, per program, will be added to the registration fee of all non-residents.

Non-residents are individuals or landlords that do not pay property taxes to the Town Milton. The non-resident fee does not apply to special events, trips and cafe items.

Refunds/Withdrawals

Refunds or make-up classes will not be granted for sessions that aren’t attended due to illness, vacation or weather.

All programs, seven (7) days or more before the start date have no cancellation fee.

Please note for all programs, seven (7) days of the start date, or after the start date of any program.

• Cancellations and refund requests will be prorated as of the date we receive your Refund/Amendment.

Classes that have passed prior to the cancellation request will not be refunded.

• After the start of the third class, no refunds will be considered unless a doctor's note is provided.

• All withdrawals will be charged a cancellation fee of $13.19 unless accompanied by a doctor's note.

• A doctor's note will not be accepted, no refunds given once the program has ended.

Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program Ontario is committed to keeping seniors healthy but untreated oral care can lead to future chronic diseases and reduced quality of life.

That is why our government launched the Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program, which will provide free routine dental care for eligible low-income seniors across the province.

Ontarians aged 65 and over with an income of $19,300 or less, or couples with a combined annual income of $32,300 or less, who do not have dental benefits, will qualify for the Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program.

The new dental care program will be available through public health units, including some mobile dental clinics, as well as participating Community Health Centres and Aboriginal Health Access Centres.
