VIEW FROM The Abbey

Welcome From... Director of Sport

The Summer Term is finally here, and Milton Abbey is looking truly amazing in the glorious spring sunshine It has been a brilliant start to the term, and it is fantastic to see all of the students outside enjoying the fantastic facilities available to them Sport at Milton Abbey really is for everyone! As always, we are hugely indebted to our ground staff who worked tirelessly in all conditions to ensure that it looks at its best There is nothing better than seeing a sports session in action with students enjoying our cricket ground, voted one of the top 10 prettiest cricket grounds in the world, our stunning golf course, and the fantastic grass tennis courts

We look forward to seeing parents in action on our sports pitches in our annual parents versus students sports afternoon on the 14 June This event is fast becoming one of the highlights of the year, and it would be fantastic to see as many parents involved as possible Matches take place in a variety of sports Please refer to the email sent out earlier this term for more details and how to sign up

This term has already been extremely busy on the fixture front, with some fantastic victories for cricket, golf, sailing, and tennis teams

There was also a fantastic national semifinal played by our First XI football team against Cokethorpe School It was a brilliant game of football that ended 3-3 after extra time A dramatic penalty shootout then followed, which we unfortunately lost. However, the spirit, determination, dedication, and teamwork from the players were remarkable, and they should be immensely proud of their efforts To reach a national semifinal and win 21 of their 25 matches is a brilliant effort

For many students, this is a vitally important term as we head into the examination season. I wish all the students the best of luck I encourage them to continue with their hard work and revision and leave no stone unturned in their quest for knowledge and marks. However, I remind them that rest and exercise are also vitally important at this time in increasing concentration and memory retention, while also boosting energy and motivation So, I encourage students to manage their time effectively and ensure they have time to exercise and enjoy the wonderful setting we are so fortunate to have here!

In The Classroom

AI STUDY DAY

We were delighted to welcome Dr Martin, Shapna and Inaya Compton for a series of engaging sessions on artificial intelligence (AI) and its future impact

Our students explored what AI means to them, discussed its growing presence in everyday life, and examined a range of images to determine which were generated by AI.

Dr Compton also led a dedicated session for our staff, focusing on how AI is reshaping education He shared insights into the opportunities and challenges it presents, helping Milton Abbey School prepare for and thrive in an increasingly AI-integrated world.

Some of our Third Form Equine students have been thoroughly enjoying their time at the farm not just caring for the horses, but getting involved with all the

CCF

Our Cadets have been actively developing their leadership and teamwork skills through their chosen Round Square activities

Students engaged in creative challenges such as guiding a marble through a series of small pipes to the bucket.

FASHION

This year, the Middle Sixth Fashion and Design & Technology students were given the word 'INCONGRUOUS' to base the development of their final big external project on This unit of work requires the students to draw on all of the creative processes they have developed over the past two years and work independently on a 15-page sketchbook that evidences their evolution of ideas while justifying and evaluating their final outcomes

Evie H, has interpreted the theme into a towel raincoat and umbrella set, which was photographed on the hottest day of the year so far The ensemble represents fun in the idea of the unusual

Libby B-S’s feather armour garment was inspired by the contrast in the strength of the female and the societal conditioning of being the gentler gender using the feather in contrast to steal armour

Henny C has used the word to develop a headpiece that represents the contrast of nature, degradation, and manmade elements The butterfly wing has been destroyed and taken over by a man-made separation technique (barbed wire), then nature has crept in as a healer

DUKE OF EDINBURGH PRACTICE

The students completed the practice for the Gold and Silver Duke of Edinburgh award over the weekend. The weather was kind to them although the evenings were still chilly Starting in Wareham, they completed two days and two nights to fulfil the DofE requirements, and walking a total of just shy of 40km

With the practice safely tucked into their belts they will be spending the next eight weeks planning their qualifying expedition
