Interior Design project, Cerska street Area: 99 sqm - Year: 2017 Belgrade / Serbia

Since year 2015 I took a leading role in a fenomenal team of young architects and designers. Our studio name is RENOVATIO and we are specialized in architectural design and visualisation. Renovatio is committed to producing work of the highest quality for its clients and that is why our designs and visuals are always produced based on each client’s individual needs.

We are a team with a interdisciplinary knowledge of architectural design, masterplaning, architectural spaces, concept design, furniture design, styling and photography.

Following you can see one of the latest projects I have been working on. Beautiful two story penthouse on the top of the building. My involvment for this apartment included participation in all design and construction phases, liaising with the client, planning and work organization, developing preliminary design and detailing, overseeing construction and finishing work, cost control, selection and procurement of materials, preparing presentations for clients, furniture design and 3D modeling at the end.

The KITE Residences _________________

Interior Design project - Lobby Area: 220 sqm - Year: 2016 Abu Dhabi / UAE

Located in Al Reem Island The Kite Residences, a luxurious modern residential skyscraper overlooking the landscape of Al Reem.

RENOVATIO has been appointed to design the interior of the Lobby area of The Kite. The task was to produce a stylish space that is well incorporated with the exterior architecture of the building. And will attract guests and visitors to use the new space.

A careful yet sophisticated use of modern materials is presented in order to satisfy the eyes of the guests and make their short stay inside the Lobby area as pleasing as possible.

The modern furniture elements and considered artwork create a homely counterpoint to the base materials and introduce a balanced color palette to the interior.

PALACE Home Concept _________________ Interior Design project Area: 675 sqm - Year: 2017 Belgrade / Serbia

At the beginning it was dificult to imagine that I could pull something of this scale with strict deadline of just 30 days. And with the help of my team to I have manage to finish the whole project two days earlier.

Space is located at the wery city center of the Belgrade district popularly named “Palace�.

Huge abandoned warehouse was supposed to be turned into the prestigious salon of the home accessories and furniture. The warehouse was abandoned for a period of 20 years. A feasibility study had to be made because a concrete slab of 30cm thick and overal area of 25m2 was pierced in order to bring natural light to the central space. Also, the plateau above the salon had to be completely reconstructed, peeling off old and making new hydro and thermal insulation. After the completion of construction work, project was made for each and every piece of furniture that went into the interior. Electricity, water and sewage, lighting and ceiling layouts were included.

Mimco Studio was born in 2015 on my initative as a small handmade furniture production workshop, where every creative idea could be turned into a reality. At the beginning there was just two of us. Today with our own in house design team we can offer a full bespoke service from concept, through to the provision of architectural drawings and visualizations, choice of materials and fabrics and finally production of previously designed furniture.

Working with both private and commercial clients, we have provided a tailored commission service creating unique one-off pieces of designer furniture as well as interiors, based on and around our clients needs and specifications. Recently we have launched our first unique furniture showroom in Belgrade, named Mimco PENTHOUSE.

“Only death is certain everything else can fail” My student project from 2009 The disposal of corpses by cremation has being used in most European cities by the late 1880’s because the cemeteries were overcrowded. On this example we can see technologically most advanced process of the body disposal treatment. The observer can notice that the base strongly resembles a mother’s womb, as a symbol of a place where human life arises. Because this is the last place where a man exists in his earthly form.

Hotel complex - Student project - Year: 2010 Drobni pjesak / Montenegro

This hudge project represents complex of 5 objects : 01. Palms Plaza 5* Hotel 02. Palms Health & Spa 03. Palms Entertainment 04. Palms Tower 05. Palms Yachting club The idea was to create comprehensive complex that could attract not only tourists but also business people from whole around world to choose this place for their business engagement.

Amorphous form is inspired by the rocky terrain on which the object is located.

Complex was named by 5 giant palms located in pool area of Palms entertainment center.

During my internship program at TUM as Teaching and Research Associate I got the task to designe integrated office space using the existing abandoned steel structure and create new multifunctional workplace for the students.

________________________________ 3D section of existing steel construction and new implemented monovolume polycarbonate structure.

Viewer can notice complexity of the construction, custom made ventilation shafts and round windows.

Beside two concrete fundamentals everything else is completely demountable

Contemporary, simple design that has integrated demountable furniture, so that students or employees of the Faculty of Architecture could use also as a small gallery for presentations and workshops.

The continuous development of teaching and student work techniques requires a change in the use of existing spaces and buildings.

Project was executet in three phases: Phase 1: Concept and Analysis Phase Phase 2: Design drafting phase This phase was covering the preparation of the entire design and execution planning. Floor plans, elevations, sections, assembly plans, operations, details, cost estimation and models.

Phase 3: Execution of the installation Sponsor of the project in building material was Rodeca GmbH. Rodeca is the manufacturer of polycarbonate facade panels. Well known for its transparency and thermal insulation. Project was supported by the faculty management, the German Sustainable Building Council and the Department for Architectural Design and Building Envelope.

Biofuel filling station - ZMAJ _________________ Student project - Year: 2012 Belgrade / Serbia

This project represents a vision how fueling station should bring revolution in alternative fuel consumption in Serbia and whole region. Idea that bonds present and future, that neutralize stereotypes, educate and inform at the same time.

Thinking that brings ecology in line with its worst enemy, fossil fuels.

Reducing fuel consumption, i.e. energy efficiency and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the last decade has become one of the highest priorities for both the governing structures of the European Union and the general public as well as vehicle manufacturers, which is also the case with the concern for air quality and global warming . In this way, the energy efficiency of transportation has taken a significant place among the strategic measures for achieving sustainable future.

The new pump station will be a milestone in increasing the awareness of people in our area about the benefits of new, “green” fuel types and the dangerous disadvantages of conventional ones. The idea is to design a pump station, which contains more environmental aspects than any other in this part of the world. The main objective of the project is not solely to generate profits by reselling petroleum products, but the point is to provide users with something healthier, cleaner and cheaper than what they are used to so far.

Point is to give people the opportunity to choose, because the current way of capitalist exploitation of raw materials is no longer sustainable and begins to break down. From day to day, the price of extraction and transport of fossil fuels is getting bigger, soon their use will not be profitable. We are witnessing a daily rise in oil derivatives prices, and the question is when will the price of oil exceed the price of its exploitation. I want to bring us into a new energy era, where we will all keep in mind how much we spend, how to save and how our way of life affects our and our children’s health.

HYDRA - Tesla research facility _________________

Concept developed for prestige futuristic “EVOLO� Architecture and Design Magazine by: Milos Vlastic, Vuk Djordjevic and Ana Lazovic

Hydra won EVOLO Honorable Mention among 5000 other projects, and it was published in over 700 architectural magazines all around the globe. My part in this project was the concept idea - lightning harnesting and further usage of that energy source. Also I have suggested the design that my team adopted as the best solution.

The story goes like this...

What would happen when the ultimate source of energy could be free for all humans, when it could be possible to replace all fossil fuels with alternative ?

In an effort to reduce global climate change, we made a facility which can produce the most rewarding alternative sources of sustainable energy - Hydrogen .

HYDRA project represents a 500m high mega-structure whose assignment is to entice and conduct electric discharge of Lightning to the mega-battery, where it should be stored and later used in a process of electrolysis of water for extraction of hydrogen from water as a final product.

This is a completely adaptable superstructure. Its amorphous form allows it to be adaptable to any kind of terrain, from simple plains to giant mountain slopes. The only condition is that it must be near a natural source of water. /river, sea, lake / Right now we may be standing on the brink of the next big energy transition, or diversification. The international community recognizes hydrogen as a key component to a clean, sustainable energy system.

This future hydrogen economy features hydrogen as an energy carrier in the stationary power, transportation, industrial, residential and commercial sectors.

As technology matures, hydrogen will be produced mainly using clean technologies like electrolysis from renewable. It may be stored, transported by truck or pipeline, and used in a fuel cell, turbine or engine to generate an electric current with water as the principal by-product.

MOSES - Habitaculum futurae _________________

Self sustainable floating city network - Habitats of the future Concept developed for prestige futuristic “EVOLO� Architecture and Design Magazine by: Milos Vlastic, Vuk Djordjevic, Darko Markovic and Milos Jovanovic

Two years after HYDRA project, our MOSES also won EVOLO Honorable Mention in very strong competition. I have participated in the whole design-drafting and post production process.

Project summary: The existing ratio of 29% of land and 71% of water tends to change, as a result of negative human impact on the planet, which has triggered the processes of global warming, together with the thermal expansion of the world oceans. Also, the rapid increase of people number substantially affects the density of the population on the mainland, which gets reduced on a daily basis as a result of the sea level increase.

Statistics and scientific research state that the sea level is going to rise more than two meters until the end of the 21st century, decreasing the land surface by another 1%, which has the important role of feeding the population by giving an agricultural yields.

These circumstances have brought the civilisation to the point when it has to engage in serious research and exploration to solve the existing global issues in order to preserve population and make the civilisation sustainable.

Moses is a decentralised, self sustaining city unit, populated by approximately 25000 inhabitants, which offers the transition from land to sea, so the land could be used for food production and earth could start the process of regeneration from the negative human impact. It functions independently as a city unit, as well as the system of city units which share the information, energy and goods among themselves. Upper and lower part of the building can be rotated around the toroid base of the building.

Upper part of the building is continuously positioned to use the maximum wind power i.e. to steer it towards the propeller generators. The same system has been applied to the lower part of the building, converting the water currents into energy.

________________________________ Each city unit is placed upon the intersection of perpendicular traffic lines, which form the grid that serves as a connection between the cities, as well as the connection of the cities to the land, in order to enable the transport of energy, goods and people.

In terms of energy production, Moses takes the maximum advantage of its offshore location and uses strong wind and water streams as renewable resources to generate electricity.

It consists of two structures that can rotate independently in order to suck in the air or water flow, depending on their position: upper part uses the wind energy and the lower one uses the energy of water stream.

These structures are connected by the ring structure which allows them independent full circle rotation, and enables circular movement of the trains coming from four directions of the traffic lines. ________________________________

LASTA BUS TERMINAL _________________ Project signed by: Milos Vlastic and Vuk Djordjevic Belgrade / Serbia Year: 2012

Reconstruction of the existing BUS terminal Concept developed for local Architecture competition.

The main goal was to implement new green areas in the city core and also to maintain station flow of the passengers on a daily base.

The idea was to maximize the street space within the station area by rising all the functions on upper floors and leaving more space for the buses and their circulation.

Ground level is reserved mainly for usual BUS station activities :

ticket lines, incoming and outgoing platforms, taxi services‌ Three huge support columns are also used as communication with main platform (6 pairs of elevators and 5 staircases) because the platform is a public area , combination of park with commercial and catering contents.

Idea was to attract citizens to use and interact with this public space. To use it as space of peace and relaxation, and to enjoy beautiful views.

To me, photography is an art of observation.

It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.

I find comfort in telling stories taken trough my lens when I travel. Somehow I have left a mark in the history. If we dont leave something behind, no mather how small it is, we dive into oblivion at the end.

________________________________ Why did I choose these two locations ? Both are just small but significant pieces of enormous historical heritage that Belgrade “city that never sleeps” carries.

They say that Berlin is the nightlife capital of Europe. Its only because they have never visited Belgrade. One part of that great energy you can find concentrated around former BIP beer factory. This complex of more then a century old buildings in the city core, today lives as one of the hottest places to go out, day or night, very similar to Berlin Kreuzberg district.

Clever way to use abandoned spaces, former warehouses filled with rats and mold, are now restaurants, great bars, nightclubs, design studios and the surrounding stayed intact. Still having the essence of industrial spirit from the beginning of the 20th century.

When you get tired form urban speed life, and you want to chill for a moment, take a 20 min ride to the nearest mountain called Avala. Oasis of tranquility. My favourite place to refill energy, enjoying fresh air and neverending silence with great view to the city below.

On the top of the Avala mountain, you will find the monument that is dedicated to a serbian soldier killed defending Belgrade during world war one, founded in a shallow grave on that spot. He was apparently buried in the crater formed by the explosion of the howitzer grenade that killed him. On the grave German soldiers who buried him placed a wooden cross with the inscription in German: “One unknown Serbian soldier”.

The monument is in the form of a sarcophagus made of black granite from Jablanica.

The sarcophagus in surrounded by caryatids representing all the nations of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia designed by famous sculptor Ivan Mestrovic.

Belgrade Zoo _______________________________________________

Also known as the Belgrade “Garden of Good Hope”, situated at the old city core, as the part of Kalemegdan Fortress park. Belgrade zoo was founded in 1936 what makes it one of the oldest in the world. My recent visit after a long time is the reason he found his place in my portfolio.

You know that excitement you get as a child, when parents take you to the zoo. I think that is the most divine experience a kid can have... when the zoo is responding appropriately to the animal needs for space and proper care.

That kid in me was devastated, when I realized that the space those animals are using is so small that it is sad to watch them. And It looked like nobody cares. There were some small talk about relocation few years back, but nothing happened.

Today, Belgrade zoo covers only seven hectares but has over 2000 animals, including over 270 animals species. It is not accredited by any international zoo association because of its small size relative to the number of animals.

I took this photo in the state of great sadness, trying to contribute to global awareness for this problem.

This is a foot of a male chimp, trapped in a cage not bigger then 30sqm. Image describes a sad story this fellow would tell if we could understand him.

“Careful consideration should be given to exhibit design so that all areas meet the physical, social, behavioral and psychological needs of the species.

Animals should be displayed, whenever possible, in exhibits replicating their wild habitat and in numbers sufficient to meet their social and behavioral needs.”

(Association of Zoos and Aquariums CHIMPANZEE CARE Accreditation Standard 1.5.2) Personally I am against any kind of animal entrapment, especially for entertaining purposes. But if it has to be, than It should be done properly. As a architect I find myself responsible. From the “Garden of Good Hope” the only thing that is left is just hope.

If you were a student of science at some point in life then you could get goosebumps from the great vista of photographs of Nobel prize winners and famous scientists who worked in this University including Albert Einstein, Max Planck, Otto Hertz etc....

________________________________ “The Pope’s Revenge” The Story of the Fernsehturm Cross Fernsehturm was built between 1965 and 1969 by the German Democratic government-Communist in East Germany. When the sun shines on the towers titled stainless steel dome, an image of a Christian cross appears.

The architects of the tower never purposely designed the structure to project the cross image. Many Berliners call the luminous cross “Rache des Papstes” or “Pope’s Revenge” as a critique against the atheist core of the Communist government, which led to the destruction of many churches and persecution of Christian leaders.
