First early 3D print prototype - to test the slot modularity system -protoyped on ultimaker using FDM -medium quality print, good enough for functional module to body testing -but poor finish and support material a ected curved and radii badly
this raised border is quite weak - physically and visually looks tacked on NEEDS IMPROVEMENT
Higher quality version- improving on curve quality thanks to better FDM machine- dimension sst. WILL USE THIS MACHINE FOR FINAL AESTHETIC MODEL.
-INCREASED THICKNESS AND made more prominent taper
design with alternative TWEAK -more curvy, “comfy” version - 10mm wider, 5mm taller, large radius on all edges, all soft no hard
curved sides, no straightnice in hand??
Second round of prototyping, made from ABS- high definition, much more accurate. Printed two versions of the design; one a smaller, sharper shape, and a slightly larger, rounder model. Feedback from peers concluded the optimal design lay somewhere in the middle between the two, keeping some of the roundness from one, whilst also maintaining the contrasting angles and edge sharpness from the other. Feedback explained further later in report.
The updated body design printed on the SLS RPT machine. Having tested the peg and hole design with the tester piece, the ‘ridges’ from the previous iteration have been altered to become an ‘array’/grid of holes.
protoytype has been slimmed down- 14mm at its thickest. taper has been introduced- slimming to just 6mm.
new modularity system allows for modules to be arranged in any order and orientation
= USER FREEDOM =LESS FRUSTRATION.
=QUITE FRUSTRATING makes product seem less bulky and more portabale.
HOWEVER- HOLES TOO SMALL MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO LOCATE CORRECT POSITION AND ATTACH MODULES
For the ‘soft’ foam comfort therapeutic module, various material swatches for the fabric cover were self evaluated. Suede and velvet were felt like the most appropriate options for the module, giving the feeling of quality and reliability, and this reflected the sentiment from su erers online. Velvet was finalised as the material choice for the foam thereapuetic module proposal.
