200 YEARS OF THEATRE EXPERIENCE NEVER LOOKED SO GOOD

It is with deep gratitude that I welcome you to another adventurous year at Salt Lake Acting Company. For more than five decades, SLAC has been a space where brave new plays come to life. Thanks to generations of receptive audiences, imaginative artists, and dedicated administrators, SLAC remains a very special theatre in Utah and a valuable resource to our community.

We’re kicking off our 54th season with a celebrated play, The Roommate by Jen Silverman. Fresh from Broadway and bursting with heart and humor.

“It’s a story about how we keep discovering who we are and what we need as we age and how vital and powerful and dangerous it is, in a good way, to listen to your instincts instead of listening to the voices that are telling us societally and culturally what we should be and how we should age.”

I’m thrilled to bring this story to our stage with a team of extraordinary local artists: Teresa Sanderson (Director), Dee-Dee Darby-Duffin (Sharon), and Annette Wright (Robyn). Between the four of us, we share over 200 years of collective theatre experience, and every moment of it pours into this production.

It’s a joyful and exciting time to be part of SLAC. Our subscriber base is growing, the creative energy in the building is electric, and the work on our stage continues to evolve and inspire.

To our subscribers: thank you, we are here for you, and we strive every day to make you proud. If you’re new to SLAC or considering joining us more often, now is the perfect time.

Here’s to the magic of live theatre.

With love and gratitude,

GREEN ROOM GALLERY

Throughout the run of The Roommate, we are honored to feature the art of Sue Martin.

Salt Lake Acting Company’s Green Room Gallery is more than just a space for patrons to lounge; it’s a vibrant hub for local visual arts. The gallery exemplifies SLAC’s mission to nurture the local creative community by offering diverse visual perspectives and celebrating the connections between visual and performing arts.

Sue Martin is a late-blooming artist who waited until near retirement to follow her passion for painting. She works intuitively to express the essence of subjects rather than realistic details. She finds inspiration in all her life experiences including aging, travel, food, and nature. Working from imagination and memory, paintings evolve in layers of paint, expressive mark making, and collage, until they arrive at a sweet spot between chaos and order. At 62, Sue decided to get serious about her art and earned a Bachelor of Fine Art degree at the University of Utah. See Sue’s work at www. suemartinfineart.com or @suemartinartist on IG.

Through the Professional Theatre Program for Emerging Artists (PTP), SLAC provides opportunities for students and early-career theatre artists to gain meaningful, fully paid experience. This production’s PTP participant is: Jessica Graham.

“Working at SLAC feels like finally realizing that theatre can actually be a career for me. It’s one of those industries that can be so difficult to find an open door in - having SLAC open their doors to me is so exciting and an opportunity I am incredibly grateful for.” – Jessica Graham
