PROJECT OVERVIEW Obras Sociales del Santo Hermano Pedro Hospital has decided to expand and remodel the surgical ward and will be adding 3 additional operating rooms and remodeling and improving the current support areas (break room, sterilization, changing rooms, records, storage, etc.) The project also includes investment for full environmental compliance on sewage and hospital waste treatment plant on site, and completion of ﬁber optics installation to connect medical services throughout the hospital. This expansion has been designed with great respect for the architectural value of the historic building in which the hospital operates. CONTEXT Obras Sociales Hospital currently has 5 operating rooms where more than 6,500 surgeries are performed annually. The surgeries are performed by more than 1,200 volunteer surgeons and support personnel that come from the US, Canada, and Europe. Currently, 40 medical missions from various countries and organizations come throughout the year to donate their services to the poor and to Obras Sociales. The existing operating rooms were inaugurated in 1993 and were expanded and remodeled in 2006 by the generous contributions of many generous people and organizations, led

by Faith In Practice. During these 27 years an estimated 150,000 surgeries have been performed. CURRENT OPPORTUNITY AND DEMAND FOR ADDITIONAL OPERATING ROOMS a) There is a great opportunity to serve more people and demand for surgeries is high, at any given moment there are more than 2,000 people on a waiting list. b) The existing medical team organizations that have come to serve and new groups who want a safe and organized place to donate their time would love to have more space and dates to offer these life changing services, the current space is small, and the calendar is full all year, at present. The mission of Obras Sociales is to respond to all the poor c) who knock on their door seeking help for their healthcare needs. The public health system is not sufficient to meet their needs and they are unable to afford private health and medical services. GOALS FOR THE NEXT 3 YEARS a) Increase the number of people served annually, serving more than 10,000 people a year who are eagerly waiting for these services.

b) Grow the number of annual volunteer medical missions from to 40 to 60.

in place to steward the resources well and meet project deliverables.

c) Increase the number of volunteers serving at Obras from 1,200 to 2,000 a year.

The equipment for the new operating rooms has been donated by Heinemann Robicsek Foundation and Partners For World Health. The medical organizations who perform surgeries year after year have actively participated in equipping the current operating rooms and many have already committed to gifts in kind to further enhance the technical capability of the surgical ward and to update the equipment used in current operating rooms or the sterilization area.

TOTAL COST OF CAPITAL PROJECT AND FINANCING PLAN The planned project requires an investment of $821,000 or Q.6,000.000 (quetzales). This includes the expansion and remodel of the surgical ward, installation of sewage, wastewater and hospital waste treatment plant and full installation of ﬁber optics throughout the hospital. The goal is to source 60% of the project through local cash and in-kind donations and Guatemalan businesses and partners who are donating a portion or all their services to see this project to fruition on behalf of their community. The remaining 40% will be sourced through funds raised by Obras Sociales, engaging existing and new donors in this visionary project. The project is being supervised by an Oversight committee comprised of board members of Obras and Amigos, as well as staﬀ and other advisors from the community. All expenses and donations for this project are being overseen by the committee and there is a designated account and accountability structure

DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION Obras Sociales del Santo Hermano Pedro and the Asociación Amigos Pro Obras Sociales have chosen AICSA to design for the Expansion and Remodeling of the Surgical Ward of the Hospital. The president of AICSA and his family, as well as their employees, have been friends and allies of the Obras Sociales and were very generous in their cooperation on the Hogar Virgen del Socorro project. The Franciscan Provincial leadership and the brothers at Obras Sociales have chosen AICSA to restore and model the hospital site, an

important project given that the construction dates to the XVII Century.
