They are words that ring true in the hearts and minds of agriculturalists both young and old. That is because we all hold an inborn fondness for the land, for our animals and for the way of life we all love. Oklahoma Farm Bureau members know it is not always easy making a living in agriculture, but together, we work to help our rural way of life prosper. Farm Bureau members know doing what you love is not always easy, but it is always worth the effort, come trials or triumphs.

BELIEVE Oklahoma FFA Convention

Endowment Campaign

The 2020 inaugural I Believe Gala, hosted by the Oklahoma FFA Foundation, was a roaring success. This sold-out event brought more and 200 alumni, supporters and friends together for an evening celebrating the accomplishments of the Oklahoma FFA and reminiscing old times. It was a formal, black tie affair at the historic Skirvin Hilton Hotel Ballroom in downtown Oklahoma City on February 1, 2020. It was a momentous evening with dinner, a silent and live auction, awards, entertainment and dancing. Alumni had the opportunity to reconnect and also interact with the current state officer team. Gala attendees were taken back in time as the officer team performed opening ceremonies during dinner, followed by recognition of past state officers and national FFA officers. In addition, the historic Creed was performed by Caleb Horne of the Morrison FFA Chapter. The 2020 Gala raised $174,962 for the convention endowment fund. The I Believe campaign was announced at the 2019 state FFA convention. At that time, Oklahoma FFA chapters had reached just over $1 million in the chapter trust fund, where they have been investing in their futures for nearly 30 years, and it will produce approximately $50,000 in interest each year. The I Believe campaign is intended to build upon what they started, with a goal of $3 million endowed by 2022. Our convention is the largest in the nation with more than 14,000 attendees. What we have known as the convention’s home for nearly 40 years is making its move in 2021 to the new Oklahoma City Convention Center. Oklahoma FFA members and all convention guests have never had to pay a registration fee for attending state convention and it is our goal to keep it that way. The I Believe endowment will secure this benefit and also help cover rising costs associated with convention to provide financial sustainability in the future. The committee charged with organizing the 2020 event included Lori Dean, Colby Haggard, Jennifer Kisling, Lisa Scheirman, Terron Liles, Holly Blakey, and emcees were former Oklahoma state FFA officers, Travis Brorsen and Elizabeth (Kinney) Stidham. The auctioneer for the Gala’s live auction was also a former state officer, Amy Assiter, who is known as one of the most successful women in auctioning and has earned the industry’s most coveted title, International Auctioneer Champion. A special presentation during the Gala recognized five individuals for their outstanding support of the Oklahoma FFA organization. The Believer awards honor strong leaders in Oklahoma who have a passion for FFA and contribute to the mission of student success. The first-ever recipients of the Believer awards included Bob Funk Sr. of Yukon, Okla. with the Servant Believer award; Jerry Renshaw of Elgin, Okla. with the Teacher Believer; Dr. Bart Fischer of Chattanooga, Okla. with the Rising Believer award; and Don Ramsey of Jones, Okla. with the Sponsor Believer award; and Monte Womack of Morris, Okla. with the Alumni Believer award. 5

Bob Funk Sr. received the Servant Believer award, which is

designated for a former FFA member who has been a true servant to the organization with consistent support as a volunteer and as a tremendous donor to the FFA at the local, state and national levels. Funk’s commitment to the Oklahoma FFA is exemplified through his numerous years of service and giving. Through the years, he has given tens of thousands of dollars to the Oklahoma FFA for scholarships, state convention and for the Blue Jacket Program. Funk has also served on the National FFA Foundation Sponsor Board. Funk is the president and chief executive officer of Express Employment Professionals of Oklahoma, and the owner of Express Ranches in Yukon, Oklahoma, an industry-leading cattle breeding operation and home of the world champion Express Clydesdales. He is passionate about supporting the Oklahoma FFA’s youth, education and agriculture programs, as well as the Oklahoma Youth Expo – the world’s largest junior livestock show.

Jerry Renshaw received the Teacher Believer award, which

is designated to recognize an Oklahoma FFA advisor, former or present, who demonstrates great support for Foundation programs, notably the chapter trust. Renshaw has been a champion of the chapter trust program since its inception. Today, the program has surpassed the $1,000,000 mark and continues to grow and ensure the prosperity of the Oklahoma FFA Association for many generations to come. Renshaw is the owner-operator of Better Built Enterprises, LLC in Fletcher, Okla. Prior to launching his successful business, he spent 28 years in the classroom as an Agricultural Education instructor at Elgin Public Schools. During his time there, he was known as the comprehensive agricultural mechanics guru among his peers and helped the Elgin FFA chapter earn the longest winning streak of the state ag mechanics career development event.

Dr. Bart Fischer received the Rising Believer award, which is

designated for a former Oklahoma FFA member who is younger than 40 years old and has shown great commitment to the Oklahoma FFA through the Foundation. Fischer has set an excellent example for former FFA members to sacrificially give back to the organization that helped developed his successful career. Fischer earned his bachelor’s degrees in agricultural economics and business administration from Oklahoma State University, a master’s degree in environmental policy from the University of Cambridge and a doctorate in agricultural economics from Texas A&M University. His background is in politics, serving more than eight years at the House Committee on Agriculture. Fischer is currently the co-director of the Agricultural and Food 6 Policy Center at Texas A&M University.

Don Ramsey received the first-ever Sponsor Believer award,

which is designated to recognize a corporate partner that goes above and beyond to support the Oklahoma FFA Foundation. Ramsey’s history with the FFA is special and blue and gold runs deep in his blood. He is considered the founding father of the Oklahoma FFA Foundation for writing the first check to establish the Foundation in 1985. Ramsey is a former Agricultural Education instructor, which sparked the idea to open the Blue and Gold Co. in 1970 to produce breakfast sausage in an effort to help FFA chapters fundraise. Today, Blue and Gold Sausage Co. provides over 3.5 million pounds of sausage, bacon and chicken products to more than 800 groups in Oklahoma and surrounding states. Ramsey is passionate about supporting the Oklahoma FFA’s youth, education and agriculture programs, as well as the Tulsa State Fair and Oklahoma Youth Expo – the world’s largest junior livestock show. He has served on the Oklahoma FFA Foundation board of trustees, along with a number of agriculture-related boards and committees.

Monte Womack received the Alumni Believer award,

which is designated to recognize an Oklahoma FFA Alumni who demonstrates incredible passion and effort to support Foundation programs. Womack is a former state FFA officer, retired agricultural educator, and a past chairman of the Oklahoma FFA Alumni Association and the Oklahoma FFA Foundation. He has received recognition for numerous agriculture industry-related awards at the local, state and national level; most recently he received the National Association of Agricultural Educators Outstanding Service Citation. Womack was also first to provide sponsorship for the Oklahoma Agriculture Education Teachers Association scholarship program. He actively volunteers to help with youth activities throughout the year, including state FFA convention and the Oklahoma Youth Expo swine show.

A Message from the Board Chairman Oklahoma FFA Friends and Supporters, Greetings from the Oklahoma FFA Foundation Board of Directors! No doubt, 2020 was a year of challenging times and events—I think we all agree, it has been a year like we never would have imagined. We hope that our Oklahoma FFA friends and supporters have weathered through these challenging times. Despite everything that has happened, it has been a successful year for the Oklahoma FFA Foundation, and we thank all of our investors and sponsors for their continued support of our mission. Early in the year, we were able to host the inaugural “I Believe” Gala. This incredible fundraising event exceeded every expectation and raised over $100,000 to go directly to the I Believe Campaign, which is intended to be an endowment to fund the annual Oklahoma FFA Convention. Although we have had to postpone the 2021 Gala, the committee is already beginning plans for a spectacular event in February 2022 and hope many of you can join us. As you know, last spring brought the cancellation of the annual state convention in downtown Oklahoma City, but the team pulled together to host a virtual event for students and advisors. We were still able to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of Oklahoma FFA members and chapters. During this time, we were also tasked with finding a new Executive Director for the Foundation, while Kendall Brashears graciously stepped back in to serve as an Interim Director. Fortunately, through the application and interview process, we were able to select an individual that was an excellent fit for the role. Jacey Fye accepted the position in June and has been working diligently to move the organization forward – full speed ahead. She has focused much of her time on continuing to develop our existing partnerships, but has also been working on continuing to grow the Foundation with new sponsorships. A couple of key highlights include a generous donation in September 2020 from Atwoods Ranch and Home in the amount of $75,931.53 from their round up program, which gave Atwoods customers the option to round up their merchandise total to the nearest dollar. Then in December we ended 2020 with the Carl C. Anderson gift contribution of $2,600,000. The Carl C. Anderson Innovator Awards gift will provide scholarships and grants for Oklahoma FFA Star award recipients in the areas of Farmer, Agribusiness, Placement and Agriscience. In addition to these gifts, many more have been made through the FFA Chapter Trust Program, Individual Trust Program and President’s Club. Another positive note from the year was our state’s recognition at the 93rd National FFA Convention last spring. Two of the four National Star Award winners were from Oklahoma, and the Meeker FFA Chapter was named the 2020 National FFA Model of Excellence winner. As you review our Annual Report, remember that donor investments and volunteerism are integral to supporting the nationally-recognized Oklahoma FFA Association. A special THANK YOU to our investors, volunteers, and supporters. We look forward to working together for a productive 2021! Scott Eisenhauer P&K Equipment, Inc. Oklahoma FFA Foundation Chair 10
