The members of The Naked Stage believe in the possibilities generated by the collaboration of devoted people. We wish to provide a focal point for the encouragement of theatre and all it’s associated arts. The Naked Stage: Works in Progress serves as an incubator and laboratory for actors, writers, directors, dancers, composers, musicians and designers to practice and explore their craft free from the constraints of production schedules, budgets, criticism and public performance.

The 6th Annual Free Winter Film Series in association with The East Hampton Library Sun 1/17 The Drummer 4:30 pm Hong Kong-Taiwan-Germany | 2008 | Drama | Mandarin & Cantonese w/ English subtitles In the East, the drum is the king of all musical instruments. The intense sound of the drum can penetrate a man's body. The solemn beat of the drum can open a man's heart. The powerful vibration of the drum can awaken a man's soul. Sid, the rebellious son of Kwan, a controlling and savage triad boss in Hong Kong, has to flee to Taiwan upon enraging his father's adversary, a powerful tycoon and underground business leader. Hiding out in the mountains, Sid encounters a group of Zen drummers whose mesmerizing art, rigorous physical training, and austere way of life pique this hostile urban young man's interest and he requests to join the group. Although Sid despises his father, he is turning out to be a younger version of him: wild and defiant. Immersing in the world of the Zen drummers eventually converts him into a firm and focused young man. Sid's independence from the triad life and his father is profoundly challenged, however, when a twist of fate awaits him back home in Hong Kong and forces him to choose between loyalty to his family and his new found faith in himself …

There will be a toast with a very special champagne; an embrace; warm words that may finally bridge the gap between them… But before, Antonio must wait. Bedridden, he looks out his window at the Patagonian landscape and sees light and life, the past and the present, while sensing the future. He decides to secretly leave the house, unseen by his faithful caretakers, to take what might be a last walk in his fields, breathing the air, treading the earth, inhaling the scent of the land that had been his life. What could otherwise seem like insignificant memories or moments in one's life, take a special, beautiful meaning and weight in this poetic, humanistic film. Distinguished Argentine filmmaker Carlos Sorín ('Bombón, El Perro', 'Historias Minimas') once again trains his camera on the small stories written by life, on the humanity behind human beings. By casting the great Uruguayan writer and scriptwriter Antonio Larreta in the lead role, Sorin establishes a link between fiction and reality that makes the protagonist's fears, hopes and wishes even more palpable.

Sun 1/31 Gigante 4:30 pm Uruguay | 2009 | Comedy-Drama | Spanish w/ English subtitles Jara is a shy and lonely 35-year-old security guard at a supermarket on the outskirts of Montevideo. He works the night shift, monitoring the surveillance cameras of the entire building. One night Jara discovers Julia, a 25-year-old cleaning woman, through one of the cameras and is immediately attracted to her. Night after night, he watches her on the cameras while she works. Soon he starts following her after work: to the cinema, the beach and even to a date with another man. Jara's life becomes a series of routines and rituals around Julia, but eventually he finds himself at a crossroad and must decide whether to give up his obsession or confront it.

Given the season, this cleanup will set a modest goal of filling a 5-yard dumpster with debris illegally dumped along the trail. Monsell trail will serve as a vital connection in the Bay-to-Sound Trails project, providing nature trails and bike paths linking Greenport's waterfront to the shore of Long Island Sound. The Mill House Inn East Hampton NY - “Your Home in the Hamptons” Seals on Long Island : During the cooler months, some special visitors from the north come to Long Island starting in mid-November. They return to Northern New England and Canada in May. Seals belonging to the Pinniped family (meaning “feather footed” or “winged”), are true seals which lack external earflaps, have torpedo shaped bodies for fast swimming. They have long, sharp claws to help them dig into the ice while climbing out of the water or onto the beach. Unlike sea lions, their front flippers are short and they are referred to as “earless” seals. Their hind flippers are webbed and pointed backwards to help them swim. They have been recorded swimming over 12 miles per hour and have been spotted swimming 70 miles off of the coast of Long Island. Seals haul out of the water to rest, sleep, and warm up in the sun’s heat. While on land sunning themselves, they are often seen in a “banana” shaped position. The seals we see on Long Island are most often Harbor seals, but there are a few other types, such as harp seals, grey seals, hooded seals, and ringed seals. Numbers have been increasing in past years into the thousands around Long Island due to the changing location of their food sources and the changing temperatures of their watery habitat. Most of the seals that visit Long Island are younger seals. These marine mammals eat a variety of crustaceans, fish and shellfish like mussels, clams, oysters and squid.

Physical science serves as the basis of all sciences. If physics is so basic, why do people think it's such a difficult science to understand? Understanding the basics about forces permit us to calculate planetary orbits, satellite orbits, and any motion we know in daily life. Similarly, understanding light is very important: We learn about distant stars and planets by studying the light they emit. Using the same knowledge, we study different materials. Physics can't be that hard! Through a series of simple demonstrations, we will explore physical phenomena that are part of our everyday lives and, by so doing, understand how such phenomena fit into today's science and technology. The name of this ensemble is a reference to the African based religion found on various caribean islands and the Louisianna Gulf Coast. MONTAUK POINT STATE PARK Montauk, NY 11954 631.668.5000 Seals on Long Island : During the cooler months, some special visitors from the north come to Long Island starting in mid-November. They return to Northern New England and Canada in May. Seals belonging to the Pinniped family (meaning “feather footed” or “winged”), are true seals which lack external earflaps, have torpedo shaped bodies for fast swimming. They have long, sharp claws to help them dig into the ice while climbing out of the water or onto the beach. Unlike sea lions, their front flippers are short and they are referred to as “earless” seals. Their hind flippers are webbed and pointed backwards to help them swim. They have been recorded swimming over 12 miles per hour and have been spotted swimming 70 miles off of the coast of Long Island. Seals haul out of the water to rest, sleep, and warm up in the sun’s heat. While on land sunning themselves, they are often seen in a “banana” shaped position. The seals we see on Long Island are most often Harbor seals, but there are a few other types, such as harp seals, grey seals, hooded seals, and ringed seals. Numbers have been increasing in past years into the thousands around Long Island due to the changing location of their food sources and the changing temperatures of their watery habitat. Most of the seals that visit Long Island are younger seals. These marine mammals eat a variety of crustaceans, fish and shellfish like mussels, clams, oysters and squid.

Lindsey will reprise her popular nature walk to view seals that arrive in our waters in December to become winter residents. Join her on this walk through the deciduous forests of the scenic Seal Haul Out Trail in Montauk and down to the rocky shore, where at low tide you can expect to see Harbor Seals, and an occasional Gray Seal, sunning themselves on the exposed rocks. This is a about a one-half mile walk, so keep that in mind when bringing very young children.

Her current medium is garden making. Hayes makes each garden an individual and unique portrait of her patrons, thus elevating the garden from simply landscaping to a living artistic relationship. She continues to question the idea of living plants as authored artworks with her new series of glass terrariums. In this body of work plants are literally self-contained in unique hand-blown glass containers. The containers' biomorphic forms project a strong psychological relationship to human form. Roots, plants and objects within the terrarium help shape and contour the vessel, pushing and defining its' form. Working above and below the soil level, Hayes exposes the ever-changing workings of a living system. Paula Hayes lives and works in New York. She received an MFA from Parsons School of Design, NY and a B.S. from Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY. A mixed cast of ten actor-dancers will recreate a ritualistic routine of entrances, transactions, interactions and exits. Sun spots on the sun's surface are violent, planetary-scale magnetic storms that vary in number throughout the 11 year solar cycle. A growing body of evidence is connecting these storms on the sun to short term climate changes on Earth. In this lecture, evidence will be presented to support the connection between variations in space weather, and variations in Earth's climate. The hypothesis that changes in the solar cycle have the potential for longer term climate forcing, will also be discussed.

West, a feminist and renowned intellectual, was a prolific writer all her life. Her works included The Return of the Soldier ( 1918 novel about a a shell-shocked, amnesiac WWI soldier) and Black Lamb and Grey Falcon (about Yugoslavia). In contrast, Penelope Fitzgerald embarked on her career at age 60, won the Booker Prize in 1979 for Offshore. Her other novels include The Bookshop and The Blue Flower.

MONTAUK POINT STATE PARK Montauk, NY 11954 631.668.5000 Seals on Long Island : During the cooler months, some special visitors from the north come to Long Island starting in mid-November. They return to Northern New England and Canada in May. Seals belonging to the Pinniped family (meaning “feather footed” or “winged”), are true seals which lack external earflaps, have torpedo shaped bodies for fast swimming. They have long, sharp claws to help them dig into the ice while climbing out of the water or onto the beach. Unlike sea lions, their front flippers are short and they are referred to as “earless” seals. Their hind flippers are webbed and pointed backwards to help them swim. They have been recorded swimming over 12 miles per hour and have been spotted swimming 70 miles off of the coast of Long Island. Seals haul out of the water to rest, sleep, and warm up in the sun’s heat. While on land sunning themselves, they are often seen in a “banana” shaped position. The seals we see on Long Island are most often Harbor seals, but there are a few other types, such as harp seals, grey seals, hooded seals, and ringed seals. Maybe you tried mead while visiting Europe or at a medieval festival? Have you been told that mead was like beer, a beer with honey or even a wine with honey? Mead has some similarities to these beverages, but it is so much more it deserves its own category. Mead is an alcoholic beverage made from the fermentation of honey as its primary sugar source and is often referred to as honey wine. Being made from honey, one would naturally expect it to be very sweet and although it usually is, it can actually range from dry to very sweet. Mead is usually still, though it can be made sparkling and can range from a mild low alcoholic content up to very high. Mead is arguably the oldest alcoholic beverage on the planet with some evidence dating it back approximately 10,000 years. Due to many different cultural and financial reasons, mead has fallen out of favor over the many years and now we call it the 'oldest alcoholic beverage no one has ever heard of.' A far cry from its hey day when it was referred to as the 'Nectar of the Gods.' Mead can be produced in many variations including a plain honey wine (traditional - honey only), flavored with fruit (melomel), spices (metheglin), vegetables, or any combination of ingredients limited only by the imagination of the wine maker and the resources he has at hand.
