ENACTUS: KIRORI MAL (NGO, DELHI UNIVERSITY)

Enactus is an international non-profit organization by Delhi University that connects students, academicians, and business leaders through social entrepreneurial projects that empower people to transform their lives by achieving sustainable progress for themselves and their communities. Enactus Kirori Mal started its very own journey towards engaging in entrepreneurial action back in 2016 with a bunch of college students passionate about creating impact.

“Engaging the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders to use innovation and business principles to improve the world.” At Enactus Kirori Mal, we abide by the broader mission to pave a path of improvement for our community, while also enabling our team to develop into more efficient and value-driven leaders. We believe in the power of change brought about by utilizing our entrepreneurial abilities to create sustainable business prospects. MILLESIMAL|Page 4

Our vision is to create a better and sustainable world in accordance with the 17 SDGs and inclusion of the underprivileged, ensured by the constant value-driven entrepreneurial action of young and free-spirited minds. We stand by the business model of research, identification, training and execution- research about the products and services that can be developed with sustainability as the objective, identification of the community devoid of benefit but brimming with ambition, imparting the needed skills to the group through extensive training and establishing a thriving business through the efficient execution of marketing strategies and outreach. Enactus Kirori Mal is an organization exclusively for the students of the Kirori Mal College, which recruits first-year students as members through an extensive and layered process of application and interviews. Selected members who showcase passion, motivation, and integrity get the chance to become members of the core team in their 2nd year and run the organisation and its various projects in a leadership capacity The other members become executive members. The core team members go on to become members of the advisory board in their third year and act in a guiding capacity to the core team. MILLESIMAL|Page 6

Navigating as an extension of the Enactus community worldwide, what sets us apart are the people we work with and the impact we create together. Our endeavour towards a plastic-free world by substituting plastic pens with upcycled paper pens through Project Syahi not only provides a solution for the 1.65 crores of waste plastic pens generated every month but also nurtures and uplifts a community of budding women entrepreneurs who are breaking the chains of patriarchy and paving a path for a gender-equal society.

Project Dor has positively impacted the lives of 4 migrant women directly and prevented the release of 15,84,30,000+ microplastic fibres through its handcrafted and sustainable scarves, dupattas, and cushion covers. Through Nirav, we strive to break the stigmas surrounding mental illnesses and increase the accessibility to professional resources by providing pro-bono services to anyone in need of help. Under Project JanBhoomi, our organic waste-management initiatives of flower compost and vermicompost reduce the burden on municipalities for waste disposal in overburdened landfills and the gardening toolkit promotes an organic lifestyle. Be it tackling the plastic menace through Project Syahi or reviving a traditional art form, we at Enactus Kirori Mal believe that every problem is worth solving and every solution has the potential to become sustainable and create humongous impact. 01

Always Be Learning The famous football player and coach Lou Holtz said, “In this world you’re either growing or you’re dying, so get in motion and grow.”

02

Focus on Results, Not Just Tasks Whether you’re interviewing for a job, asking for a promotion, or just trying to impress your boss, results matter. MILLESIMAL|Page 9

03

Network, Network, Network Whether it’s inside the company or other peers in your industry, get to know people.

04

Find a Mentor As millennials, I think we are programmed to be unique and reject any advice from the outside world. But connecting with someone who is a few steps ahead of you can be immensely helpful.

Why so many millennials are starting small business? BY SEJAL AGGARWAL

Why are so many of us choosing to forgo traditional 9-to-5s with insurance benefits and 401(k)s in favor of striking out on our own? Aside from the obvious perk of not starting the countdown to retirement as soon as we graduate from college, here are a few reasons why so many millennials are starting their own businesses: MILLESIMAL|Page 11

Millennials are socially-motivated Millennials are also using their buying habits to make a statement by making mindful purchases from fair trade and sociallyconscious establishments. Millennials want to use technology for good, not just for tweets. Social media can make a huge impact on the success of a small business or creative. . On top of that, millennials have grown up with the Internet as a part of daily life which, when used wisely, fosters a more global perspective. In addition to easy networking, technology also makes it easy for millennials to start businesses with minimal startup costs and lower overhead.

Millennials are taught to embrace our creativity Many millennials start businesses because they truly believe they have something helpful to offer the world. Of course there will always be those who do it for other reasons (attention, potential money or fame, etc.). However, those of them who have been praised for thier true talents are therefore empowered. Millennials are uncertain Millennials are embracing the idea of a portfolio lifestyle in which they rely on multiple income streams instead of one. Whether uncertainty is a solid motivator for entrepreneurship or not is debatable.
