Over the years The Millennium Forum has hosted multiple global artists, West End Musicals and produced and presented its own productions to huge audiences both at home and abroad From Multi-National Corporations delivering lectures, exhibitions, plenary sessions and multiple AV site specific presentations , to local community events involving young people & school groups; the Millennium Forum team work tirelessly to ensure a well delivered product for all with a highly skilled team and technical staff.
The Millennium Forum is looking for a motivated, organised and enthusiastic, hands-on Technical Manager to join our team and help with the smooth delivery of all our productions and events The Technical Manager will be the main point of technical contact for all touring productions. They will also play a key role in managing safety for productions and the wider building in collaboration with the General Manager
The Theatre Technical Manager plays a crucial role in the successful presentation of all theatre productions. They are primarily responsible for all technical aspects of the production, including lighting, sound, flying, and on occassion, stage design. They work closely with the director and production team to understand the creative vision and translate it into technical requirements. This role involves managing the technical resources within the theatre, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, and other equipment, ensuring safety standards are met, and troubleshooting any technical issues that arise. Additionally, you will also be involved in budgeting, scheduling, and staff management Your expertise will be vital in ensuring that the technical elements of a production either theatrical, or in terms of a conference/ special event, run smoothly and effectively, enhancing the overall audience experience.
To plan all aspects of the efficient day to day management of the technical services within the Forum including supervision, training and recruitment of staff and any other support required for productions
To give strong leadership in a team and Forum context, motivating all technical staff through committed, imaginative and strong positive leadership.
To undertake and lead on (when required) get-ins, fit ups, technical rehearsals, performances and get outs.
To be responsible for, encourage and enforce good safe working practices within the department to maintain high production values and good efficient working practices
To provide leadership, direction and training of the technical team in the safe and efficient operation of all equipment and other aspects of staging and events at the Forum.
To contribute and develop appropriate Company policies, procedures and working standards for use by staff with other members of the management team.
To develop a programme of technical training for all members of the department to ensure staff’s ability to multi task on various elements such as lighting/sound/flying.
To be responsible for ensuring that all technical equipment used in the Forum is maintained to a safe and satisfactory level, and can be operated by staff safely and efficiently.
To develop in conjunction with our General Manager & Maintenance team that an annual rolling programme of maintenance is planned and carried out.
To provide (when required) lighting/sound design on in-house projects and events and/or act as Production Manager on specific projects as agreed in advance.
To manage the Forum’s external warehouse space ensuring it is kept tidy and in good condition for the safe and secure storage of sets/props/costumes etc
To oversee the inspection of rigging and lifting equipment in accordance with LOLER regulations
Any other relevant duties and responsibilities as may from time to time be reasonably required by the CEO and Derry Theatre Trust.
Significant technical and/or production management experience across a range of theatre environments
Proven leadership ability with excellent people management skills
Good all round knowledge of technical theatre and stage craft with a specialism in either lighting, sound or stage management.
Ability to read lighting plans and ground plans and experience of using CAD software.
A good level of experience and knowledge of appropriate health and safety rules and safe working practices.
Excellent attention to detail, planning, organisational and budgeting skills.
Ability to organise and deliver in house training.
Ability to work on own initiative and to tight budgets.
Desirable
Technical Theatre qualifications.
Experience of operating GrandMA or equipment lighting desks
Experience of working with Allen & Heath Digital sound desks, QLab and Dante control networks.
Demonstrable experience in flying, rigging, pyrotechnics and scene construction
Payroll Holidays
Hours: 37 hours per week across at least 5 days, additional hours may be necessary to fulfil the requirements of the post.
Salary: £37,500 per annum payable monthly
